Subpar experience at this Tiffin location. I felt compelled to write this review for quite a few reasons. #1- I ordered paneer tikka masala. There is absolutely no way this was tikka masala. It tasted like a butter sauce. Granted, it was good, but in no way tikka masala. It was yellow. It was super sweet, and I had ordered it spicy. I eat enough Indian food to know this had no masala in it. I felt like I was being fooled, but I knew better. I was told they got rid of the food coloring. Again, I am not stupid. Food coloring doesn't affect taste. The onion naan was so doughy it was gross. I overheard (loud and clear) the female server tell a young doordash driver to tell the customer that their dishes had gluten in it, because it couldn't be taken out of the premade base. They explicitly stated SEVERE GLUTEN ALLERGY in the order, but served the customer this anyway because it was already paid for. They didnt bother to call the customer, and relied on a young door dash driver (who probably could care less, not his responsibility) to inform the customer that their food had gluten in it. Despicable if you ask me, a huge liability. I also ordered tea which the server forgot. Had to ask for it at the end of the meal. Honestly, I love going to this place! The food is extremely delicious and comforting. I always get the chicken tikki masala and the paneer! Paneer is a sort of cheese that doesn't melt. It's amazing. I always dip the masala with naan, and i think i will go here at least once a month to get my fix. The place is located in a small shopping center- and it's never is packed, a little hard to find at first.. but once you find it.. you won't regret it. Little hidden gem. The only issue I had with the place (which is why I didn't give 5 stars).. each time I went in, the place was hot. There was no air conditioning and it's summer! Eating hot food and sweating is not really ideal. The server/hostess also took a while to get us the check, and the food takes a while to come out. But everything taste fresh! We love this place. We only do take out. They always wrap the food well enough that it is still hot when we get home. Service always aiming to please the customer. They took our order right AT closing time. This time we had the chicken kormi (cashew gravy) a newer favorite of mine. The black lentils were tasty as usual. Basmati rice perfectly cooked. We tried the shrimp tandoori for the first time. I don't think we will try that again. The shrimp was a little on the dry side. We had garlic naan to compliment our meal. Flavors we great, they adjust the heat of the food to your liking. Careful! Hot is HOT! When we are eating here we know it's going to be expensive takeout, but it's worth it. It had been a while since we had gotten food from Tiffin (just hadn't felt like Indian for a while), but were looking for quick and easy local Indian and so came back for take-out (love the returnable bowls, by the way). Got a family-size Chicken Tikka Masala which was excellent, plus some garlic naan which was also good. The Tikka Masala fed 3 for dinner plus most of 2 leftover lunches, which looks like a bargain in my book. Frankly the prices are outrageous for such small quantities of food, and you can get a better value just about anywhere else. The most recent time I went to pick up my food it was barely organized chaos and I seemed to wait forever long after they had quoted me a pick up time. This is our go-to local Indian place. We mostly order take-out, but have on occasion eaten in the restaurant. The food here is pretty good. Indian food is my favorite and I have tried A LOT of places over the years, and I've never had a complaint about this location. We usually order the samosa chaat (my favorite!), butter chicken, Channa masala, saag paneer, and garlic naan (all of which are great). Recently we tried the chili chicken appetizer and loved it (beware, it's pretty spicy). I was inspired to write this review, though, because this restaurant has been our go-to take out place during Covid-19 quarantine. We order pick up from here a lot bc the owners take all the necessary precautions (distance, masks/gloves, etc). I was confused when ordering because they had spice options listed as medium, mild, and spicy. Tiffin has always been my go to restaurant for Indian food! They are open until 10 pm during the week which is super great if you work late and they also conveniently offer free delivery. I usually dine in or take out, but either way the service is always friendly and efficient. Since I can't choose just one dish I love, I'll tell you that you can't go wrong ordering any of the Traditional items. You can also choose your spice level (Mild, Medium, Spicy) to suit your personal palette. Either way, if you find yourself in the Elkins Park area craving Indian food, I highly recommend dining in or ordering for take out. This has been my go to restaurant for Indian food for year. However, I have noticed a decline in quality. The Vindaloo sauce used to be thicker with more flavor. My girlfriend's shrimp Korma was better. The main reason I still occasionally go there is because they are one of the few Indian restaurants that use white meat chicken in there dishes. When I finally got someone willing to take my order; I asked about a substitution. I was told to just buy something else. I'm ok with being told that you don't offer substitutes. I've been a regular here for years... but after my first couple of visits, they took a huge plummet. I always order Chicken Tikka Masala and I must say it has not been consistent in flavor or viscosity any time I ordered it. When I ordered it this time it was very liquidy, almost as thin as water. In addition to that, I received it in a bigger sized container (twice as big as normal), you know which I normally wouldn't be complaining about but why was there this change? For whatever sized container they provide you with.. I always get a minuscule amount of chicken, there is no good proportion of chicken to sauce ever. It's like if you want some of the chicken, you have to go fishing through the liquid. I also ordered the fish appetizer that is battered and fried, the fish was very dry. I also ordered garlic naan tonight. I feel like I usually get 2 whole pieces of naan, but today I got one? One for like $4, kinda ridiculous. I can go get a loaf of bread that will last me for at least a week for $4. This is my last time ordering from this place. I'm not sure what happened but it wasn't a good change, which is a shame since I really use to enjoy this place. There is a lack in quantity, quality, and consistency. (As a disclaimer, I'm pretty sad I didn't take any photos like I usually do. I came here so hungry and ready to indulge. This place is hidden in a long strip of offices and a gym, which is ironic. It's also a small place so if you want to bring a large group that may be less feasible. However, I came here with two other people and felt the place had an intimate and comfortable atmosphere. They don't play music loudly and in general it is not a loud place. I was surprised I couldn't even hear the kitchen. I ordered vegetable samosas, "something" paneer (it had spinach in it), chicken tikki masala, and tandoori chicken. Personally I love Indian food so I enjoyed all of the dishes but the other two people did not enjoy the paneer and tikki masala as much as I had. Of the two they preferred the tikki masala. I never tried paneer before and was surprised by the texture and taste. I expected it to be stronger in scent and drier but I was pleasantly surprised that it tasted similar to tofu. I would recommend for anyone who is vegetarian. My favorite of all the dishes is the tandoori chicken. I liked that it was spicy unlike the other dishes. As a side, I ordered mango lassi and enjoyed washing down my food with it. Even though it is sweet, it pairs well with the food. Some people may not like the "slimy" texture that is common in fresh mangos, but I did not find it to be a problem personally. Overall, it's a small chain with good and fast service and food. My friend recommended this place and I fell in love. I really miss this place. When I visit Philly again, this is on my to do list. This is my favorite place to eat in Elkins Park! So good, I love the Tikka Masala. Great flavors that complement each other, so creamy, so filling. Great service and they give a generous amount. Their naan was so warm and fresh too. I definitely plan on coming back. I wish I saved pics of my food during my time there. I am salivating as I'm thinking about their food haha. TBH I highly recommend anyone to this location. We have been regulars for many years and honestly I want to like this establishment, but we can never order takeout from Tiffins Elkins Park without some combination of the following: order is missing at least one item, the order is over 10-15 minutes late FOR TAKEOUT (even despite the fact this place is never busy, I wonder why), or inevitably we find a hair in the samosa. We went on a Saturday and needed a place near my job in Willow Grove. He found Tiffin. We did not have reservations but were seated instantly. The hostess was dressed nicely and friendly. The place is small - maybe 12 tables or so. The waitress gave us menus and poured waters. She didn't introduce herself or mention any specials, and frankly I was surprised that, for a highly ranked restaurant, although semi-formal, she was wearing a black T-shirt with Tiffin on it, black skinny jeans and sneakers. She didn't ask us what we wanted to drink and there were no options on the menu. So my father-in-law had to ask and eventually ordered mango juice (it came in a bottle that he had to pour into a glass himself). We ordered garlic naan and eggplant chaat for appetizer. It came out fairly quickly. We waited for another 20 minutes for the main food. I ordered salmon tikka, my husband ordered an okra dish off the specials menu, and his father ordered a shrimp. The salmon and shrimp dishes came out with two decent servings of rice. Only one of the rice bowls had a spoon, so when the waitress took away the emptied bowl we were left with no spoon for the second one. My husband waited at least another 10 minutes for his okra dish. We shared our salmon and shrimp with him in the meantime. I waved down the waitress and asked her where his order was, she casually replied it will be out in a few minutes. It was not a busy night - there were quite a few empty tables. When it finally came out, it was delicious. My salmon was flavorful and well cooked. However, I'm used to more spices in Indian cuisine and all of our dishes were pretty bland. The waitress never asked us how hot/mild we wanted our food - not a good sign of authenticity. The waitress came by several times to refill our waters but never asked how everything was. We sat for a good 5 minutes after finishing our food, waiting for the waitress or hostess to notice that we were done. I kept looking over and they were both by the register looking at each other's phones. Quite unprofessional, if I may say so. They were both young girls. It almost seemed like the owners were away and that they had their daughters run the place. When they finally noticed that we were done, the waitress came over and started clearing our plates. She never asked if we wanted desert or anything else, or how our food was. We had to ask her for a to-go box for our leftovers! Really?! She proceeded to pack up the food in front of us in ONE small round plastic container: the okra on the bottom, topped it with rice, and the bread got smushed under the lid. Wow. Father-in-law paid the bill and I think it was around $60 for the 3 of us. Reasonable prices, decent food, but we were so put off with the service that I wouldn't recommend this place. Ok. Tiffin probably is my favorite place to order from when I'm at work. I always order from that place. I will say at least twice a week. I had a situation one time, when one order took about two hours to be delivered. I was extremely angry. But the manager was so nice, he called me and came by himself after they finish working to apologize and explained how busy that day was. He also refunded that order. I was very satisfied because I felt they work so hard to earn a good repetition. I always appreciate that. The price of these dishes didn't really match up to the amount or quality of authentic Indian Cuisine. I typically judge food by "would I eat here again?" and I wouldn't. Though the food was made quickly and the parking was easy, I wasn't impressed by the flavors or quality of the dishes. We added extra comments in the "Special Instructions" section which were all ignored. That can happen on any ordering app, I guess (we used Door Dash) so may something got lost along the way. Pros: I have eaten there for dinner at least 5 times, and lunch once. The food is always delicious. 5 stars for the food quality. Quaint space and clean environment. Serving sizes look small but they are actually quite filling. They put nice condiments at your table to enhance the flavor of the breads or your meal. Cilantro chutney, tamarind sauce and some sort of apricot (or mango) ginger chutney. Cons: Prices for the breads are a little higher than necessary. Ex: The Chicken Kulcha Bread was pretty much naan with microscopic bits of tandoori chicken baked in and small amount of cheese. $6 Service is a little slow, expect to wait about 30 minutes for your food. The waitstaff is a bit inconsistent as in they don't really check on you much after they take your order or after the food has been placed at your table. 1 had to take off a star for the slow service. read more

The entire evening was about to go down the tubes when the restaurant would not honor our gift card - with their name embedded on it. We ordered through door dash- because we actually sat in there before. Door dasher checked and restaurant told them everything was there. Spent 112 bucks on a dinner, missing an item. The food is good! But the family style dishes are 15-17 dollars each for a half a pint of food. Definitely not like other Indian places and way more expensive. My wife and I order at least once a week. We also live two minutes away and love Indian food. I always order Salmon Tikka, cheese naan, and peshwari naan. I don't see the Salmon Tikka on their website right now. I'm hopeful they won't be removing that from their menu or I wouldn't continue eating there as frequently. My wife gets Paneer Korma. My tip is to order take-out. Sitting in the restaurant proves to be awkward and the wait staff will forget you're there, even if you're the only patron. They obviously aren't accustomed to waiting but they're polite otherwise. The food is as good as any other tiffin place, so it's yummy. read more
