This family run bakery specializes in South America pastries and custom cakes. Their macarons are either made like a classic French style flavored pastry or decorated like a very cute unicorn or flower. so many flavors to choose from like Dulce de Leche, Mango, Strawberry, Nutella, Passion Fruit, Chocolate, Cafe con Leche, Raspberry, and Pistachio. Got a slice of their rainbow cheesecake for a friend's birthday. We shared it at a fun Happy Hour. The Alfajors are such a traditional South America cookie. A shortbread sandwich cookie filled with gooey, homemade dulce de leche. So delicious. Their meringues are also filled with dulce de leche. The colors on the desserts were bright. I was greeted warmly by the owner upon stepping into the store. She introduced the desserts to me, and I loved it that all of them were made in house. The macarons were on sale - buy 2 get 1 free. I got the Nutella, pistachio, and passion fruit flavors. There were some cute unicorn macarons too! The macaron shells were a tad too crunchy, and needed more flavors. However the macarons weren't overly sweet, which made them easy to eat. I also got the passion fruit 3 leches cake. It was good. This all started with a TGTG order and now I'm hooked. Picked up a surprise bag that included a slice of cake, macaron and a cookie filled with dulce de leches. That cookie was filled with crack. The end. Time goes by and I pick up another surprise bag and I buy one of their tres leches cake topped with strawberries. The bag had a cookie with dulce de leches, macaron and 2 cakesicles. I've thoroughly enjoyed everything. The cakesicles were probably my least favorite. A bit sweet for me. I am not into tres leches but saw a few posts about theirs on IG so have it a try. Best decision ever. Not kidding. So as fate would have it, my loving cousin decided to surprise me weeks later with a delivery. Valentine style cookies (chips were pink) with dulce de leches, alfajores traditional sandwich cookies, and a tres leches cake topped with chocolate shavings and dulce de leches. (She also sent me 2 empanadas - 1 beef and 1 chicken. The chicken was delicious. The beef was nice too. They were a bit salty for me but I am always low sodium or no salt - my friend tasted it and she said it was perfect) And this is LOVE. The reason I gave it 5 stars is because I don't actually like sweets much. I mostly eat Asian baked desserts bc they tend to be less sweet but everything were perfect. The service is great as well. It's been 6 years since I last visited Houston, TX and I told my husband we must stop my Sweets By Belen! And let me tell you, she did not disappoint! OMG!! The Tres Leche with strawberries made me say 'sweet momma Jesus'!!!! I just sat there for a moment in silence savory every bite with my eyes closed. I heard about this place from an Instagram reel, and I finally was able to stop by! Walking in, I was quite overwhelmed by the large variety of desserts that are offered here (in a good way). The inside looks so cute, authentic, and welcoming. I tried the oreo tres leches and strawberry tres leches. I liked that they came in smaller sizes so they seem more personable. Happy to discover Belen's sweets from TGTG! There is so much variety to choose from and I highly recommend a slice of her chantilly cake. It's a light sponge cake with whipped cream layered with dulce de leche and fresh fruit. There's something special about Belen's whipped cream recipe. So light and addicting. The inside of the shop is tiny but very charming with lots of pinks and florals, but be aware that they do not have a restroom for customers. Belen is so welcoming and her staff is very kind and helpful each visit. On the single occasion that I've had a problem with my order, it's been fully and quickly resolved. Using the "Too Good To Go" app, I reserved and paid for an order at Belenes. Though the fee was small, I'd heard good things and saw beautiful work online from Belenes Sweets...over years of the store being on Hilcroft. My intention was if the transaction went well, to buy additional pastries and cakes, once I was in the store. I drove a far way, over an hour in traffic, got to the store at my 3pm pickup time (told to pickup between 3pm and 7pm central). Doors were chained. Store was not opened. Knowing that the store isn't open on Sunday, why advert on a third party app that you are? Why did the app show my pickup was ready? To affirmatively place ones business on an app for oversupply pickup orders, there has to be a filter for the store to NOT post for Sunday busineas. Belenes should contact the app or remove store from app. I am awaiting refund but my time and traffic cannot be refunded. Disappointed. read more

Returned to try the mango cheesecake ($7.50). It was soooo delicious - plentiful mango chunks in the cake. Fresh mango flavor. Not sickeningly sweet. The cheesecake wasn't dense at all and I easily finished the cheesecake with my friend without feeling too full or icky. Highly recommend trying it if you like mango! I sent my aunt money to buy her own birthday cake. When she came out the dessert shop she called me and sounded so upset. What a find!! Sweets Belen is amazing. We ordered a tres leches cake from Belen. She personally took my order and made some modifications to it for me. My friend loves passion fruit, so Belen added passion fruit to the cake. She did an amazing job! The decoration was beautiful with passion fruit and gold dusted berries. The cake was rich and delicious and amazing in flavor and decoration. We also got some macarons of various flavors which were good and quite large. We got a dozen alfajores. They are small, heavy on the cinnamon, and soft. They weren't like ones we'd had before, but they were clearly fresh! The staff is amazing. On the phone, they were so kind and offered to speak to Belen about my passion fruit request. Belen called me back and took some time to discuss my request. I had originally only needed the cake but because of the owner's great attitude and customer service upon my arrival, I decided to buy more. She recommended the mango cheesecake and alafores and WOW. She was clearly being 100% honest on her personal favorites bc these items were so SO good!!! The mango cheesecake was out of this world and that's coming from someone who doesn't care for cheesecake. Sweets by Belen is in a strip center where finding parking can be a dangerous sport. If you're the victor on that one, the destination is worth it because Belen's little store is a very cheery place and it's packed with sugar-laden treats in various colors and shapes. I tried five different desserts over two days -- that's right, five, now don't judge me -- and I did it because the desserts I tried on the first day were so good that I was curious about a few more. I think my favorites were the 5 leches cake and the mango cheesecake. If I lived in Houston, I would definitely want to buy some of her larger and very beautiful cakes for special events. Because of its colorful sign, it stands out of the hole-in-the-wall looking plaza, literally right next to it is a dentistry and a taco place. It may not be the best place to dine-in due to its tiny size but definitely a place to pick up some desserts if you are in a decadent sweet mood, looking for something exotic, fruity, or just something homemade. Emphasis though on the decadent, sweet part. Before stopping by, my eyes were already on the lacuma cake, and because of the tempting selection I also got a 3 tres leches cup. I was warned that it was sweet due to its layers of cakw, dulche de leche, and lacuma mousse, and I can now confirm that. The lacuma tastes like a sweet pumpkin and because the mousse was already sweet, the cake could have done without the dulche de leche and benefited from something nutty or even a mango-like mousse layer. As for the 3 tres leches, who doesn't like soaked cake?! Honestly, can't go wrong. I enjoyed how it was a lot of milk to completely soak the cake with a chantilly cream on top as a nice cherry on top. You could even just do all strawberries but can see why they added mango to the mix. Great small business to support. Note that they even have a rewards program! read more

Everything inside this small shop, from the decorations to the food design, has a very personalized feel to it. The first time I even knew Sweets by Belen existed was when my girlfriend ordered a birthday cake for her friend, which I believe was the Berry Chantilly cake. At first, I thought it just looked like a regular birthday cake. However, after I took the first bite, I was instantly surprised by how complex the fruity flavor was while at the same time the cake was not overly sweet either. It's the type of cake that you don't feel tired of eating even after multiple bites. After that experience, I formerly introduced myself to Sweets by Belen by ordering a mango cheese cake slice with my girlfriend at the shop. Since then, I have come back multiple times and even brought my family here. Now, it's not a traditional cheesecake. I believe gelatin is used as an ingredient, and, thus, the texture overall was soft and delicate instead of dense and rich like a regular cheesecake. Nevertheless, it is super fresh with a strong mango flavor while still remaining not overly sweet. The cheesecake slices are a perfect summer day treat and a brilliant end to any heavy meal you may have prior. It is worthy to note that the prices at Belen can be a bit higher than you'd expect. Tried a beef empanada. It was alright, would consider trying the chicken one in the future. But.... OMG THE PASSIONFRUIT CHEESECAKE. This is the only other item I've tried. I've had it two separate times now. This stuff is amazing and very tart - just what I am looking for. I have been to other places that blend mango and passionfruit and are hesitant to make things more tart. I know what I'm looking for when I want more passionfruit flavor. This is the only bakery shop I've been able to find a passionfruit cheesecake (side note: I saw it only once at Xochi Sunday brunch buffet which was also delicious but it's not on the actual menu). So to my knowledge, this is the only place I can get this. Not the cheapest at $40 some but you pay for quality. I will be back. I could eat this whole thing in 1 day if I wanted to. I decided the day before my birthday that I didn't want to have a cake I wanted a Pavlova. And then I remembered that I live in Houston and very few people know what a Pavlova is. So I google searched and found a few places that supposedly carry it and I went to those places and they did not Sweets by Belen is minutes from my house and I've driven past it for years and never gone in. I popped in, and told them my story. Belen was there to help me and said that yes she had in fact made an extra Pavlova base today but it wasn't dressed. This review is a bit overdue. I've been coming here for years and the 5 leches cake in the tray is to die for! A few months ago I had ordered two cakes for a graduation/birthday celebration and they were beautiful and I received many compliments on them. One was a lime cake and the other a highly recommended red velvet. Unfortunately the red velvet cake once cut into was dry and crumbly. I reached out to Belen a few days later and explained the situation and she was very understanding and accommodating. I loved that about her, she stands behind her product and is not afraid to admit if there has been a mistake - her customer service is excellent!
