One of my friends invited us to see their band perform at this bar. I like that it has a very decent parking lot, is convenient and the area looks pretty safe in general. I wasn't aware that this place takes cash, so I have to use the ATM (thankfully there's one inside) but unfortunately you get charged (a fee). The menu offers a decent variety of food and drinks. Because it was late, we only have some fries baskets to share and a couple of draft beers. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Sound is very decent, could be a little too high; but it's a performance space, so I might be in the minority here. Our friend Mary invited us out to do Tuesday night karaoke, which is from 9 PM to 1AM, and OMG IT WAS AO MUCH FUN!! I also got a drink (blue moon on tap), which was so delicious! It's a non-smoking place except for outside. Next time, I'll probably get food. We stayed the full time up until 1 AM! Everyone was so nice. It did feel like we were part of a family. After landing in Atlanta, I needed some grub and beers. My friend brought me here... It's a divey type bar in my opinion, but nothing wrong with that at all. There's high top tables, regular tables, pool tables and games of darts. We ordered a pitcher of beer and food. Beer was cold and the beer glasses were chilled. For food we went with some appetizers to share. Fries, mozzarella sticks, and spinach artichoke dip. Fries were crispy and lightly seasoned. Mozzarella sticks were crispy. Spinach artichoke dip had great flavor. Service was good. We ordered our food at the bar and then grabbed a high top table. The bartender found us and brought out our food. Very relaxing type place to chill, drink and eat. Prices are reasonable. read more

Maybe it is because it's the day after Christmas, worst food , chicken nachos had no cheese , we said no jalapeño and it had it, it had olives and she didn't tell us it had olives , my daughter got a sandwich w fries it was nasty, waitress disappeared leaving plates all over the table, kareoke was fun , nice place but food and waitress was worst, so they brought us cheese when we complained it lacked cheese and had the audacity to charge us $6.00 for cheese!!! My husband complained. At first they give him a bill without showing the items bought. Very deceitful - I don't get how the chef can fail a ham and cheese sandwich and chicken nachos. Drove 2 hours here to see a friend perform. We wanted to buy food and were told that the restaurant was attached to the music venue. After ordering food, we made sure to ask our waitress if it would be fine to bring this back over through the linking doors and she assured us that it was as long as we had our wristbands that we used to get inside the music venue. When we get our food roughly 30 minutes later after our waitress tells us she's going to check on it since we hadn't received it yet, we proceeded through the linking doors to sit with our friends until we get told by some guy that we aren't able to bring any "outside" food in since they have a kitchen there. Okay. Not only was that not clear considering there is no sign or kitchen in sight, but we were quite literally told that it would be okay before we ordered the food. We tell him this and he proceeds to tell us "No one told you that" and rushes us out. Now, we get rules are rules and completely understand most rules about having no outside food, but we did not appreciate being called liars about this when we tried to specifically make sure about this. Plus, the waitresses were constantly walking back and forth between those doors and cleaned up the music venue afterwards! Where is the disconnect? Won't be coming back. read more

This little place is exactly what I thought it would be. A bar/grill. They have 6 or 7 pool tables, tv's and a full bar. I think they also have a full kitchen. The only complaint I have and its not really a complaint, but as soon as you walk into the bar the smell of cigarette smoke hits you right in the face. Since I am not a smoker it was a little hard to stomach at first. The waitress was very nice and attentive. The patrons were cool as well. It is a nice place to just chill and watch the game. They don't have a lot of choices on the menu but what they did have to me was a little pricey. The drinks here are on point. A lot of times when you go out the drinks are watered down-Not here. They made them RIGHT!! I liked the fact they even have "tabs", That's how they used to do it back in the day. I was surprised places still have tabs. I almost started on just because. lol The appetizers were fabulous I just wish they gave you more. I had to order another appetizer cause they were so good. The main entree portion size was good , I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla and it was very enjoyable. If I am ever in the neighborhood I would come back. The drinks alone are enough to make me want to come back. read more

I have up'd my previous rating to a 3. It is still a dive but at least now I don't have to burn my clothes when I get home from all the smoke. Horrible experience last night!! Bartender wasnt very pleasant! She was coughing everywhere and clearly not feeling well, but didn't have to be so rude to everyone! Her exact words.. "I'm bleeding out of my vagina, so leave me alone" and "I wish I was lesbian, I hate all guys. You all suck". After that I was ready to go. My check came but she already charged my card. Never got a chance to see if it was correct or not... Overall a .5 out of 10.. never will be going back there! read more

I want to start out by saying the food was good here. The reason I am putting this post up is the service. 1. The website states the wings are .69 on Sunday and Monday. When I am about to pay, they tell me the price went up .79 (could have told me upfront). 2. I ordered lemon pepper and apparently those are .89/wing. Could have told me upfront but didn't say anything when I was ordering and I had to find out when I got my check. 3. There is not one sign stating they charge an extra percentage if you use credit card at least that was visible to the eye. I sat at the bar and I didn't see a sign on the cash register or anything. Also, as mentioned before, this was told me when I asked for my check to pay and leave. It wasn't about the extra percentage I had to pay, but the fact that they didn't tell me until I was paying. 4. The wings took like 40 minutes to come out and on top of that, nobody else was ordering food so I didn't understand why the food took forever to come out. Also, Stephanie was our bartender/waitress and she didn't ask us once if I wanted a refill or if I needed anything or even gave us service. She was too busy chit chatting with the regulars or smoking a cig or talking on the phone. Honestly, I would never recommend this place to anyone because of the lack of service I was provided by Stephanie. The bar false advertises on their website. Upon arrival me and friends were not ID'd. When we attempted to pay for a pool game we were then ID'd, which is expected. Everyones ID in my party checked out, after we turned around to play we were ID once more, this time by an extremely rude gentlemen. When we attempted to inform him that we have been ID by the employee behind the bar just seconds ago, he accused us of having an "attitude" and proceeded to say "If you're going to have an attitude you can get the fu** out." then proceeded to kick us out. If this is how you speak/treat paying customers, I would never spend my hard earned money here nor recommend this crappy place to ANYONE. I'm new to the area and mom mom came to visit and we thought let's go to a local dive bar. I don't drink so I just got her two shots. We are new to the area and asked for tequila and said we'd be playing pool. She asked what kind we wanted and we both said just a simple one whatever. The need of the night came and I go to pay and each shot was 23$. We wanted something simple she decided that was patron. I paid with tax 50 something for two shot. I'm pregnant and just wanted to have a chill night. Not to mention this place is a complete hole in the wall and is a mess. If I wanted to go out and pay club prices I'd have gone to a club. Waste of time and money. I do not recommend going what so ever. It sucks because I really am trying to find a place I can be a regular because I'm always hosting people from out of state. Definitely a good place to go. I was surprised how it is inside. There is alot going on here. There are dart boards (bring your own darts), pool tables (actually pretty nice and well taken care off, balls were also shiny and polished), and a karaoke/live band side. Beer is cheap. Lots of beers on tap. I even found my favorite beer here (Murphy's) although I think not that many people order it. The nitrogen in it made it taste very flat. Blue moon is 11 bucks for a pitcher so no problem there. Pool is cheap and open late. Cool place to go. read more

Visited on a Saturday night to hear a friend of a friends band. This is a dive but in the best of ways. People are so friendly and they have pool tables, darts and live music. I might actually consider visiting here again but never for the live music. Their sound system is terribly bad. Lots of squealing feedback from mic (nails on a chalkboard anyone?) Apparently they think the key to good music is to just turn it up as loud as possible. Not realizing though that if I can hear the speakers rattling and popping over musicians literally screaming into the mic then ITS TOO DAMN LOUD. The musicians may well be talented but you'll never know until they fix their system. I literally wound up with earplugs in but it was still painful. Ok, so I totally get why this place was voted Best OTP Music Club by Creative Loafing. I grew up in the Norcross-Duluth area and know it well, but have lived in East Atlanta for nearly a decade and why leave EAV/L5P when so much good music comes there, right? Well, not necessarily. I've been invited out several times over the years, for karaoke nights, battle of the bands, and by musician friends with gigs there and it is stellar. The quality of the bands they get is surprisingly good and many of the bands we see ITP. The karaoke is one of the best selections I've ever seen (and I'm a connoisseur). If only I lived closer - I'd go every week! The guy who runs it is funny and super nice and obviously knows what he is doing. The drinks are strong, the bartenders are nice, and there is a full room separate from the music area with many pool tables, darts, etc. if music isn't your thing. The food is ok, typical bar stuff - fried, no frills, but with all of the awesome Asian food in that area, why would you eat at the bar anyway? read more

This is easily the best bar I've ever been to. I'm a regular every week for karaoke, and both the staff and the regular crowd are fantastic. The beer is reasonably priced, and the karaoke is free. I just can't get enough of the place. I've also been to a couple of the Battle of the Bands, which are super fun. And the open mic nights. Atmosphere: very relaxed, place is split into two sections as the previous poster mentioned...bar with pool tables (plenty on pool tables) and a karaoke stage/dance room. I was there on a Saturday night and the patrons were jamming out to death metal one minute and backstreet boys the next LOL. edit: must have been battle of the bands, because they were pretty legit Music: They have a nifty jukebox/music player which can connect to your phone as an app but the songs are a bit limited.... no 2pac (I wanted to jam out to "song for mamma") Drinks: $10-$12 for large pitcher of beer, pretty decent! I love Sweetwater Live! It's not because it's such a fancy or beautiful venue (it's not), it's because of the killer atmosphere, which can't be beat. Sweatwater Live has personality. It has vibe. The people who work there - especially Jesse and LD are amazing and nice and friendly and cool. This is THE PLACE to go to check out the best local music in the Atlanta/Athens area. Every good band in the area passes through these doors and they'll each tell you the same thing I am - Sweetwater Kills! Check 'em out asap. I took my girlfriend to this place and at first look on the outside I thought what did I get us into. But the inside was great with great staff, pool, good ventilation for the smoking. I didn't give a 5 star because the comedians sucked. This could have been an off night but we ended up leaving before they all went. Very displeased with how the 2 male managers treated the female staff and one male worker. Absolutely no respect when the customer crowd was low. PearsoNalli overheard waitresses complaining about their tips being withheld by the management for their own pockets. The chicken wings made me physically sick. They definitely are not handled properly along with god knows what from the kitchen. The drinks are a little pricey. However, will say great place to play pool. The crowd is nice, typically easy going. Not a bad place to sit at any time of day for the customers... Period. I'm a regular at Sweetwater. I go at least a couple times a month. Usually they have decent bands but I was shocked this past Saturday night when Hayley Gray played with Nathan Nelson. Apparently, this girl has latched on to this musician in the hopes of becoming famous herself. The music was really really bad. My friends and I are kind of pissed that we wasted our money. Next time I'll check out who is playing before I fork out cash. But hey, the beer and wings are really good (and cheap) so I'll be back. read more

I would recommend this place to anyone thats in town and looking for a nice bar and grill type deal. Let me start by saying that I frequent this establishment often, however, I will no longer. I was sitting on the very edge of a pool table when a man swiftly walked past me and said, "You got a nice heiny, honey, but that's a table, not a chair". I dismissed the comment thinking he was a rude customer. Ten minutes later, the same man comes up behind me, smacking my rear end with his hand and tells me to get off his pool table, so it turns out he was an employee. FYI, there is no sign anywhere in the building that says not to sit on the pool tables. Additionally, I was not the only customer sitting on the edge of the pool tables. When my group & I spoke to the manager about it, he told me I deserved to get hit for sitting on the pool table... I was calmly trying to explain that I understood, however, it's not acceptable for an employee to make unwarranted physical contact with me in ANY way and he proceeded to irrationally scream at us about sitting on pool tables although no one formally approached us saying it was not permitted, and justifying me being smacked by an employee. read more

A friend of mine found out about Sweetwater while looking up live music venues and we decided to check it out because we were both looking for a friendly watering hole in this part of Gwinnett. Absolutely nothing about Sweetwater says upscale, but it's not a total dive either. They actually have Yuengling on tap and know how to mix up a few drinks, so the bartenders are better than what you might think just by looking at the place. The bar area has a few high top tables, darts, billiards, and every time I have been there people have been playing poker at the card tables. There is also a music area, and this is where a lot of the action happens. Sometimes they get great bands, sometimes not so great, but it's nice to have a fairly constant stream of live music. I have wandered into the music area without being hassled in the past and sometimes I am stopped and asked for a cover, so I'm not sure if sometimes the music is free or if sometimes the door people are just lazy, but the place doesn't attract known enough bands for me to want to pay a cover to listen to. The times they haven't charged me, the bands have been fairly decent. The music room definitely has a bit of a swankier feel to it than the bar area, but that could be just because it's darker. I'd say it's about on par with the Northside Tavern in terms of feel, though it does have a larger and more elevated stage area making the band easier to see from a distance. I have seen some diversity at Sweetwater, but it's mostly a blue collar crowd. Some folks wander in looking like they mowed lawns all day and didn't shower or change before coming, while others look slightly less awful. Many times you can tell the women that come here actually did spend some time getting ready. People are friendly and the prices are reasonable, but you're not going to find a lot of 4 year degree holders or six figure income earners here. I would also advise against Sunday evenings. I wandered in here on a Sunday night to find a small crowd of trashier than usual patrons. They were playing stuff like the Elvis Presley version of Dixie on the jukebox and these people were taking it seriously. Even for this boy who spent some time growing up in Alabama, things were getting a bit too redneck. I like Sweetwater because they have live music, a friendly staff, decent beer on tap, and it's a smoking bar so you don't have to worry about people brining their kids. I kind of wish they drew a crowd that looked more like it came from Duluth or Lawrenceville instead of Buford or Winder, but the folks seem by and large harmless enough. You're not going to get into any conversations about how research on hot nuclear fusion is progressing here, but if you just want a cold brew and a conversation about who won the big race, it's a nice spot to chill. It's a bit refreshing to see absolutely zero attitude and people just having a good time. read more
