Local Dive - Older People drinking shots While shopping at the Corey Ave Market for a while, needed to sit down and relax. Walked into the Swigwam Bar and was very happy. Mixed clientele, locals as well as snowbirds. Great atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. This place isn't a place to visit if you want first class or a great meal. Never disappointed with Swigs. Such a cool place to stop on Corey Ave. Perfectly poured cocktails with fast and friendly service. Seems Rob might live there (LOL) as I don't think I've visited without him making an appearance. Can get quite busy especially on Sundays with the Market but still a good spot to stop for a break. Try the back patio which is a good spot to get away from the noise a little. Several TVs inside if you're interested in watching your favorite game. No food that I am aware of. read more

I love this bar! Seriously the vibes here are great. Staff is professional, fast and friendly. You can even bring your furry friend and enjoy the outside seating area. I witnessed a manager, or owner maybe, carry out a chair for an older gentleman who was not even a customer of his restaurant. Shows character and I like to support a business who genuinely cares. Oh I forgot to mention the bloody Mary's and mimosas that are delicious and potent, two things I love in a drink! There is a lovely market on Sundays and you can grab a drink at the bar and walk around to shop. Alcohol is allowed on the streets during market So please stop in and give this bar a try. As for dive bars this is the place to be !! Came here Sat. nite on 6/5/21 with a buddy of mine and had a ball... I"m sorry I forgot the male bartenders name that night but he was great along with service and personality... This place is on closed off Corey av. abt half way down the street but an easy find.... The place has some cool decor inside and you can tell that someone is a Yankees fan !! The people inside were fun and friendly... They have a pool table and a dart board in case you get bored hanging around but I didn't....The prices were great and they have PBR and Miller High Life which are my go to beers......Check this one out Yelpers.... You won't be disappointed....PS.. Get there early because I hear that later at night you can't get near the place... Still the best place on Corey Ave. for a drink. I had the chance to meet Rob, and we had a good chat reminiscing about the good old days St. Pete Beach (Colonial Inn, the original Silas Dents and the Gallery "of Love"). It saddened me that the City of St. Pete Beach put the kibosh on drinking out front on the sidewalk (in the Island Time chairs). I did not think laws could single out a specific place, since other establishments on Corey are still allowed this practice. Oh well, that's what happens when you have a biased city council. Show Rob you care and go have a swig at the Wam! PS. Full bar and great happy hour prices! read more

This is my favorite dive bar that I visited on our girls weekend to St. Pete Beach. It is just a good little bar, with some tvs, some tables and a pool table. The place was full but not too full and the crowd was all having a good time but was not obnoxious. Apparently Bush Wackers are popular here as the group I was with wanted to get some. I stuck with my usual drink. Prices are good and the bartender working the night we went was fast and good. read more

Great bar in a hopefully up and coming location. If you've been around St Pete Beach for a long time, you'll remember Swigwam when it was located on the beach behind what is currently the Postcard Inn hotel. When PCI took over that property, Swigwam got the short end of the stick and had to move along. They ended up on Corey Ave in St Pete Beach's 'downtown' area. There are big plans by the city to turn Corey into a gulf to bay corridor of businesses and hopefully those will come to fruition, rewarding the businesses who are there now working hard to make it happen. In any case, Swigwam still has a few of the faces I remember from the beach version so it's nice to drop in from time to time. They have several tv's so it's not a bad place to watch games. Some of the city's higher ups and other businesses on Corey who feel 'uncomfortable' with Swigwam patrons drinking out front unfortunately were successful in killing that option, so booze cannot be enjoyed from the beach chairs any longer, even though patrons of Jackie's right next door are allowed to booze it up outside; really low class move there St Pete Beach City Council. There's a smoking area out back for those who like to get their tobacco fix. All in all it's a clean place, cheap and strong drinks and friendly staff and patrons. Inside, there's a bar that seats probably about 15, a few high top tables, and a pool table with seating in a back room area. One thing to note; they do not serve food. Fortunately there are food options on Corey, some which will even deliver to your bar stool at Swigwam, such as Jackie's Bistro next door. Jackie's has some incredibly good burgers so I'm completely fine with Swigwam not having food. read more

Went to the original back in the early 90s and it was always the place to be. The new one still has Rob tending bar, he's still one of the best on the beach and with the same laid back attitude as always. First time at the new place and I'm very impressed, it has the dive feel without the grime. Very clean, with just enough TVs to keep you up to date on scores. Pool and fooseball tables, cold beer and full liquor bar, can go wrong. Oh and AC on a August day isn't bad either. read more

It's at 336 Corey Ave. but for some reason I can't edit the page to reflect that. : ( Come to the late-night Corey Avenue wine tasting March 26th! Swigwam is now located just a few blocks off the beach on Corey Avenue, but don't let that deter you--you'll need some time out of the sun and here, there's no corporate attitude just a place you can chill out and hang with the locals if you like. love me some dive bars. we came on a slow night, and i can tell this place picks up. i liked the prices, the outdoor patio in the back and the clean bathrooms. theres a pool table or two and tables in the front of the bar. not a unique beer selection here, but its the time of place you come to for cheap shots and drinks. friendly people here, but also great for people watching. read more

Summary: not for anyone who is not a regular. You know the old Swigwam's? The one right on the beach? The one in the photos? The one with all the good reviews? That one sounds AWESOME! Too bad I'll never get to go to that one. Also too bad: that you and I aren't welcome at the new one. Why? Cuz the NEW Swigwam's isn't meant for anyone but a tight circle of unfriendly regulars. You will feel welcome at Swigwams IF you are a: white, middle-aged, casually-dressed local... WITH A BLOOD ALCOHOL LEVEL OF AT LEAST .5. It was just a slurring wall of sound. That's the profile. I mean, these folks were *remarkably *drunk. Also remarkable: I felt like I was in the St. Petersburg version of Jersey Shore, in that, as I watched these folks flirt in the local accent of indecipherable slurring, I got this eerie feeling each sexual escapade was a repeat performance. The bartender, on the other hand, was fast, professional, and friendly. So how did I end up at this high school reunion anyway? Finding myself stranded on Cory street after I took a wrong turn on a bike ride, I ended up on the wrong side of St. Pete's (and in the wrong downtown). I had just come from a 40 mile bike ride, and had visited the beach. It was dark. I decided to to throw in the towel and call a friend for a ride. While waiting him to bail me out with his car, I decided to have a beer at the nearest bar. Having just come from a long bike ride, I had a back-pack on, and was wearing sandals. I didn't look glamorous. But everyone else was casually dressed--all shorts and tee-shirts. So I didn't think much of it. But as I walked in, a male patron said to me: "Are you here to sweep the floors, or to drink?" As I drank my beer at the bar, little circles of patrons glanced at me repeatedly, looking me up and down, whispering amongst themselves. After long trail rides, I usually stop in bars for drinks. I've done this all over the country. I did this the night before in Clearwater after a 40 mile bike ride, and had an awesome meal and some beers. I had been dressed the same. No one has ever looked twice at me, let alone been rude. I'd never think of going into an upscale bar dressed in sporty gear. But that's not what I did. I just went into a casual bar not being a middle-aged local of that particular Jersey Shore. And at Swigwam's, that's not cool. read more

This divey bar has everything you want in a divey bar: billiards, steel tip darts (nearly impossible to find in the Tampa Bay area), a great jukebox, friendly bartender, reasonably priced drinks, Tito's vodka, mellow patrons... Perfect spot to watch a game. Calling it a "beach" bar is a bit of a stretch; it's on Corey Avenue a few blocks off the water. Still, the vibe is beachy and relaxed. It's authenticity to what I grew up with and loved. To everyone's defense, this is a party bar right off the beach and I went around 130 on a Friday afternoon so it wasn't very busy. I walked inside. There was one patron at the bar and the bartender was very accommodating as I sat down and had one pure purpose in mind that she had no idea of. Let's measure up the St. Louis style pizza they claimed to serve. I'd watch enough Instagram post to know that they were pretty legit, and so while I ordered a Personal sized pizza, I got very excited because in St. Louis, it was very common. You could get this smaller version of a large style pizza for lunch with a salad, and be on your way. I was surprised when a Pizza Hut style small Personal pizza came out and I questioned if they actually serve St. Louis Pizza, but she assured me that the large pizzas were St. Louis style well the small Personal sides, pizza were not. OK, not gonna hold that against you. Too much. But I could order St. Louis style full-size pizzas off the menu and I took two home. After several hours, I had to try the real deal. I set my toaster oven on pizza at 425 and put it in for seven minutes. It turned out perfectly! It was beautiful, I loved it, it was authentic, and they piled the toppings. On way more bully than anyone in St. Louis that ever dared. What a comeback! Highly recommend.

Not sure when they closed for the day but this spot is open later than other spots on the same strip.

We grabbed a spot on the outdoor patio, which is great because there are tons of TVs playing sports to keep you entertained. And you're going to need that entertainment, because the vibe this particular evening was heavily operating on "island time." I started to wonder if our server had to physically row to an island to get our order. It was a very long wait just to be acknowledged, and an even longer wait for drinks. Funniest part? My beer arrived well before my water. I was incredibly parched, and while I appreciate a cold brew, I didn't exactly want to shotgun my beer just to survive the drought. The tap water finally made its grand, triumphant entrance a solid 20 minutes after we sat down. When it came time to order, we met the Upcharge Enthusiast. Here's the deal: burgers come with rice and beans by default. If you want Bob's fries, that's a $2 upcharge. I tried to shoot for the stars and upgrade to onion rings. The response? A firm, almost offended no. "Those are an appetizer," I was informed. Honestly, our server seemed to derive a bizarre, villainous amount of joy from telling me things were an upcharge. Hey, whatever brings you happiness, just take my two dollars and make the fries happen. After the drinks took a serious scenic route, the food came blazingly fast out of the kitchen, but when it finally arrived...wow. The burgers here are absolute behemoths. You literally have to unhinge your jaw like an anaconda to take a bite. I have to admit, they are undeniably amazing. One bite almost makes you forget you spent the first half of the evening contemplating drinking water out of a patio planter. Pro-tip: Bring paper money! They give you a nice little discount if you pay in cash. Overall, I still really like this joint. Every restaurant is allowed to have a rough service night every now and then, and this just happened to be one of them. I'll definitely be back although I just might pre-hydrate in the parking lot next time.

One minute its there, then its NOT! We drove all the way out to St Pete last night (10/03/09) to have a few drinks and introduce a friend to Swigwams and poof! Its closed again. Number one I wish travelodge would stop jerking us all around and finish this remodel and second would have posted a sign at the front by where you park that Swigwams is closed so you do not have to walk back to BFE to find out! When it is open, its a great hole in the wall hang out but for now, I wish there was a zero star setting!!!! read more

OK during the day. Scary to even walk by at night. Smoking drunks all over the chairs on the sidewalk. They bring trays of shots out there for sale. Between the cigarette smoke and drunks, I mean hardcore boozebags, not a pleasant place to even walk by. Went to Corey Avenue to see the fireworks. Had to walk across the street as all the Swigwam drunks were out on the sidewalk being loud, intoxicated and smoking like chimneys. And the bar actually serves shots out there. Uhhhh....no thanks. Always such friendly people in here! A great dive bar with no smoke clogging up the room. Great drinks for cheap prices, great bartenders that make you feel like you come in every day! Watched Tiger Woods win the championship here yesterday, the patrons were so into it! read more
