I am writing this review with a heavy heart. I genuinely did not intend to tarnish this business, and I expressed to "Ms. Julie" over the phone that I had no desire to do so. However, something about our final interaction didn't sit right with me. While she is clearly gifted with children and I initially had high hopes, the lack of professional boundaries and the lapse in safety became impossible to ignore. The Experience vs. The Environment First Impressions: During the FaceTime tour, Ms. Julie was amazing with my son; her ability to engage kids is undeniable. Even though she wore a "Trump Won" shirt--which was alarming--I dismissed it because my son was happy. I felt that if she could get him to swim, I would be happy. Hygiene Issues: While she provides an indoor observation area, it had a strong, unpleasant odor. The bathroom was the breaking point--the inside of the toilet was visibly black and unhygienic. Despite signs asking parents to use Lysol wipes, basic maintenance was missing. False Advertising: I was hesitant about a 6:30 PM session due to the temperature and the sun going down. I was explicitly told by the answering service that there were indoor and outdoor pool options. This was a flat-out lie. On Day 2 at 5:00 PM, the water was cold, my son and I were shivering, yet my concerns were dismissed by her simply showing me on her phone the temperature was 89 degrees. I do not know if salt water pools are different, but it was not warm. Professionalism & Safety Concerns The most alarming part of this experience was the total lack of focus on my child: Day 1 Conflict & Venting: After the first lesson, I overheard Ms. Julie arguing with her teenage son. She then proceeded to vent to me about it. Which was okay, but later I realized it set a tone that her personal life was the priority over the business interaction. Safety Negligence (Day 2): I got into the pool to help. Instead of focusing on my son, Ms. Julie spent the lesson venting about her personal drama with her teenage son again. She became so distracted by her own talking that she failed to ensure my son's head stayed out of the water while assisting him to float. A swimming lesson is for the child's safety, not a therapy session for the instructor. Inappropriate Comments: She told me her son "wanted to live with me" because he wants to live in a place with "no rules or boundaries." She later tried to clean it up by saying she told him that didn't exist anywhere, but it was a bizarre, uncomfortable comment to make to a client. Religious & Political Overtones Unsolicited Religious Practice: After venting about her son, she insisted on praying with me. I "uncomfortably obliged" the first time. However, on Day 2, when I explicitly said "No, I don't pray," she responded with "Well, can I pray?" and did it anyway. It felt dismissive of my own boundaries. Political Branding: Wearing "Trump Won," "Trump 2024," and "I Stand with Charlie Kirk" apparel/jewelry in a professional youth business created an environment that felt more like a statement than a service. Final Assessment I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and even spoke with Cedricka, who was great and tried to mitigate the situation. I initially decided to cancel, but after a thoughtful and apologetic email from Ms. Julie, I was actually inclined to finish the last 3 days based on that message, despite my husband's reservations. However, when we finally spoke on the phone, her tone was flat and dry. It didn't match the warmth or sincerity of her email at all. Although she apologized, the tone was not the same. That disconnect made me realize the email was likely a formality to avoid a bad review rather than a genuine realization of her behavior. The Bottom Line: Ms. Julie is a gifted teacher. If you are looking for a skilled swimmer who is great with kids, she has the talent. However, if you value professional boundaries, a clean environment, and an instructor whose focus remains 100% on your child's safety rather than her personal life, I cannot recommend this program. Ms. Julie is a true expert. She got my high support needs autistic son swimming in just five days. I was part of the sessions because of my son's special needs, and Ms Julie allowed me to stay in the pool to practice kicking which was something my son was struggling with. By day five my son was swimming across the pool. What a dream come true. Her space is great, and kid friendly, she is professional and kind, and her service is top notch. Worst experience and waste of 500$ out of my pocket. We were "guaranteed" our daughter would know how to swim in 5 days which is obviously absolutely false. Not only were we guaranteed something that wasn't followed through, my daughter was absolutely traumatized for months with the process of it. I would never recommend swimming lessons where the person forced you to hide from your child so she can teach them how to swim. Extremely disappointed that someone could take 500$ from parents like this.... Not to mention all the extra she convinces you and charged you for the toys she forced upon you then charges you for later on. read more

When we first went to Swim With Mr. Blue, my oldest daughter Veronica had already taken swimming lessons elsewhere, but she had stopped progressing and so we stopped the lessons. As a result of her not swimming, she had lost her confidence--but we put her in their 5 day program with Miss Gaby back in April 2019 and had her swimming twice a week moving forward, and saw how much she improved her swimming capabilities. She is now on a swimming team, and loves to swim! Seeing that success, and feeling the need to keep my kids staying active during the pandemic for their own health and wellness--swimming was our saving grace. From May 2020 and onward, my eldest was swimming until she found a swim team. In August 2020, my youngest, Ariela, did the 5 day program at 2 years old with Miss Yari, and graduated at the B2 level. Since then, we have also seen her expand on her swimming capabilities, and she is now swimming at the G1 level, swimming short distances with no noodle or floatie at 3 years old! As a former teacher, now Occupational Health and Safety professional, I can personally attest to not only the adaptability of the swimming techniques to meet every child's needs and encouragement of primary dyads (where the parent is involved in the learning alongside the child and outside of the lesson--this encourages the child to integrate the activity better, and makes it more likely that it will become a lifelong activity for the child)--as well as the overall safety and extremely low risk factors in the face of COVID-19 concerns coming out of this pandemic. Swimming has been good to us despite the pandemic challenges, and the Swim with Mr. Blue staff has been nothing short of professional, supportive and flexible. If you have concerns regarding health and safety, we have had zero issues come up, and we had our kids swimming twice a week consistently from May 2020 to now. Miss Julie is a gem, and is always upbeat and down to earth--and I can honestly say, her program WORKS. And for us? It's worked TWICE. All 4 of my children learned how to Swim with Mr. Blue's 5 Day Swim Safe Program. When we first starting attending, I only had 2 children. My oldest, Luke, has severe autism (then 6), and my 2nd child, Faith (then 4), was very afraid of the water. We had tried other programs without success, so imagine my shock when after just 1 week, Luke was able to swim to the wall and get out on his own when he fell into the pool and Faith was swimming clear across the pool without assistance. What is also amazing about this program is how they stand by their results and will continue to teach your child at no cost to you if they don't pass the survival test at the end of the program. I was intimidated by the cost at first, but after experiencing the program I know it is the most economical program out there. Prior to Mr. Blue, I had spent over $2,000 on swimming lessons and still had two children who couldn't swim. After Mr. Blue, I have two swim safe kids for less than half the cost. Since then, I have had two more kids go through the program. Grace completed the 5 Day Program at age 2 and Caleb at 18 months. This is our second summer with Swim with Mr. Blue. We did the 5 day course with our 18month old last year and signed up 2x a week for 12 weeks for this summer. Owner/coach Julie takes time to get in the pool with us and teach us how to keep practice with our now 2 year old. I'm forever thankful for her guidance and blunt approach with telling us what to do. We adore all the coaches and I just have to say coach Julia is amazing! She helps calm our little man down and I feel he does great for her.
