Fresh breads and cookies (two of my fave oatmeal whoopie pies in the basket)

Love Swiss Pantry! Been visiting for years. They serve deli type sandwiches and soups for lunch as well as having a small but diverse array of fresh grocery items and their delightful baked goods and treats. It's my understanding this place was started by the Miller family, who have a Swiss and Mennonite background. The folks working at the Swiss Pantry have always been very pleasant and helpful across the span of my many, many visits. Today was no different. One of the younger employees welcomed us, answered our questions, and happily agreed to make us some lunch even though it was a little early (around 10:45). While we waited for our sandwiches to be made, we took our time perusing all the gorgeous and delectable goods for sale. I squished on some super delicious looking breads of all sorts of flavors (cheddar jalapeño, cinnamon raisin, sourdough, etc), took in the fresh cheeses and meats, and admired the shelves dedicated to baking supplies: all sorts of different flours, baking chocolate, toppings, and more. They also sell corn meal, pancake mix, and grits from the nearby Falls Mill - which you should check out if you're in the area. One cool thing I saw for the first time today was some dip mixes: small containers of different spices and seasonings with instructions to combine them into a delicious dip. Both sweet and savory options were available (eg dill, bacon ranch, lemon cheesecake, caramel apple). Really cool! Would love to try it sometime. I was trying to keep my lunch light so I just opted for a simple grilled cheese with chips and a can of soda. It was only a shade over $6, which is pretty good for lunch these days, especially when the bread was soooooo good. There was a ton of cheese on the sandwich and it melted to gooey perfection on slightly sour, perfectly chewy sourdough. This place is definitely worth a road trip if you're not from the area. Combine with a trip to Falls Mill for a lovely afternoon. :) My final tip: one of my favorite items here is their oatmeal cream pie / oatmeal whoopie pie. Two slightly soft, slightly crunchy, perfectly cinnamony oatmeal cookies around creamy, silky filling. Don't miss it!

05/17/2021 Old fashioned country store near the Mennonite community of Belvidere TN.  Fresh baked goods are available like breads, cakes, cookies, pies, fried pies and other sweet delicious goodies.  More than a bakery, they have made to order sandwiches.   Every first (1st) and third (3rd) Saturday of the Month is Donut Saturday.  So I'll be back with more pictures... stay tuned.

The Oatmeal Raisin Cookies sold to us were out of state. Very disappointed. Everything else we had was good.

The signage is a little easy to miss, but I walked in to two friendly people eager to serve me lunch. They have a fairly large selection of hot and cold sandwiches, and a slightly more gourmet feel to the items and menu boards. I was torn between the chicken, bacon, ranch sandwich and the #1 combination sub, which comes with a variety of meats. I was encouraged to try the #1, so that's what I went with. They were happy to accommodate my modifications to the sandwich (no onions or tomatoes, please). I grabbed chips and a drink from the mini-fridge to complete my meal. The bathroom in the back is a little cramped and hard to find but clean and gets the job done. My sandwich was made fresh for me and brought to my table. I liked the crusty bread; it stood up well to the sandwich. The meats and cheese were sliced thinly and I could taste the different elements. For me, I think I would have preferred some greenery other than the shredded cabbage; the texture just wasn't my favorite. The pepper on top was also a little heavy and aromatic for my preferences. Nothing worth sending it back over, just a few small details. Overall, I appreciate the effort to create a sandwich shop like this one. I would return to try another sandwich in the future.

My coworker and I came in here for a late lunch after working across the street at Falls Mill…read more Hensley's somewhat recently took over this convenience store and we were curious about the food as we noticed across several visits the parking lot was quite full. Though I miss seeing the sign for its humorously named predecessor (the "beer, baloney, and more" store), Hensley's is an upgrade in terms of food! In addition to standard gas station snacks, Hensley's cooks up burgers and chicken sandwiches as well as a southern plate lunch each day. They also have a small salad bar. Desserts include fried pies; I thought I saw a sign for ice cream too though I never spied a machine. The place is hoppin with locals and it's clear word has spread. There's not a lot of super convenient options in the area but even still, we enjoyed our meal. My coworker had visited before on an earlier trip I didn't attend and she enjoyed their Philly cheesesteak. This time, she got a chicken bacon ranch wrap and onion rings. I ordered a hamburger with bacon and French fries. Their soda machine wasn't functional when we visited but we were able to get drinks from the convenience store side. Diet Coke only though, no Coke Zero and no Pepsi products whatsoever. /: Our food took a few minutes to come out but they were busy and it was clearly fresh. The burger came on a simple but soft bun. It had pretty good flavor, though I will say it was a touch dry in parts. Fries had a slightly frozen-ish texture and might've benefited from a touch more salt but they were hot and plentiful. The bacon on my burger was cooked very well and was nice and crispy. My coworker enjoyed her onion rings and said the CBR wrap was her favorite thing she'd tried so far. The menu covers a good many American classics and the plate lunch specials seem to change often and were quite popular on my visit. You pay at the counter with your ticket when you check out. I think the prices are fair. Service was nice and helpful. Overall, this is a solid stop for some fresh grub in an area that was previously mostly bereft of options. Give them a try if you're passing through.

I'm giving it three stars because it was my first visit and I never want to really pass judgement…read moreon one visit. Anybody can have an off day, so, will give it another try and see how it goes. What I don't like is that you can't see them making the sandwich. When you can see it , you can stop a situation from turning into a sandwich you hate. I ordered a ham sub. I told a girl that I would like to have it toasted. And then I told her that I liked it to where it was a little over toasted, and would she do that and she replied yes. And then when she gave it to me so, I asked if it had been toasted and she replied, yes. When I got home the sandwich had not been toasted at all. The cheese and everything in the sandwich was still like it just came out of refrigerator. I knew when I took it out of the bag and could feel how cold the sandwich was that it had not been toasted. So I took all the condiments off and put bread and cheese in my toaster. By the time I got that done, and reassemble my sandwich, all of the condiments were wilted and mushy and tasted pretty bad. The ham seem to be a really good quality meat. I really hate that it had to be so poorly made. The other thing when, is that when she put spinach on the sandwich, and lieu of lettuce, I couldn't find it. So I didn't investigation into my sandwich while it was torn apart and I finally found one and a half leaves of spinach on my sandwich. But I guess that was good under the circumstances because it looked like it had been through the washing machine because it had been so long since the sandwich was made before I could eat it. It's a sandwich have been filled with that kind of thing I might not have been able to even eat it. That would have been really unappealing to look at and then eat. It was a bad experience all the way around. I'm going to go another couple of times because I always do like to make room for that sometimes it's just a bad day. I have a job and I go to work and sometimes I just have a bad day . so we'll see how this goes next time and I'll come back and let you know if I can get a sandwich toasted with some spinach. Have a great day and happy eating!
