Came here for lunch a couple weeks ago and had a nice time. On the outskirts of Winchester, this restaurant has comfort food, breakfast, and American classics. It's a little rough around the edges / shabby-chic inside but there's plenty of seating and it definitely feels like a local place. Pleasant interactions between waitstaff and regulars, large groups of workers coming in, etc. I like that vibe. They let me seat myself and a waitress brought me a menu. I asked if I should get the plate lunch or the burger and she very emphatically recommended the burger. Not sure if that was a condemnation of the plate lunch or just a huge fan of the burger lol, but I followed her guidance and got a bacon burger and fries. I used the restroom while I waited for my food; it was a small one person lady's room but it was clean. My food came out in a timely manner and was fresh and hot. My waitress did not steer me wrong; it was a tasty, diner-style burger, well-seasoned and cooked nicely. The bacon was extra crispy, which is my preference. The fries were nothing-special crinkle cut fries, but they were hot and crispy enough. The burger was definitely the star though and worthy of another order. Came for lunch, seat yourself. Sat for 10 minutes before someone asked if we need menu, said yes, then about 3-4 minute wait for menu. Ordered about 10 minutes later. Saw food that looked like ours given to table next to us. Sat at their table for 2-3 minutes, waitress came back and said, that is not yours, took to area I could not see, about a minute later, brought our lunch. I asked waitress, if our food was the one that was just at this table and she said yeah, but they didn't touch it. She said, she can have it remade, I thought, yeah, that will go over real well. These are the places you take your children when you go back home to visit. Skips is just that. The decor is the same as it was years ago and the menu is untouched. Just good ole flat grill cooking with classic American fare. Burger patties are still hand pressed and the chili is still house made. There are no modern renditions of classic fare or deconstructed anything and thats why people come to Skips. Give me the classic cheeseburger with fries and a Coke. Good service, good food, nice hometown atmosphere at a good price. Great mom and pop. Menu has plenty on it to include a daily special -when I was there it was meatloaf. I had the double cheeseburger though. The Pattie's were quite large 1/3 lb or more. A single would've been plenty, but I had assumed it was going to be a typical double. It's quite a bit bigger. The beef was good as was all of the toppings. I definitely got my money's worth. They stop serving breakfast at 11:00. Which isn't always a bad thing. Not only did Yelp help me find this little gem but boy was it worth it! You MUST order the pancakes. Delicious butter and vanilla baked into these flap jacks. So freaking good. Cheap prices and good eats. I ordered a drink, 2 scrambled eggs with bacon and toast. My table also ordered 2 over easy eggs, bacon, a pancake and a side of biscuits and gravy. Totaling $16.88. We stopped here based on the reviews for the burgers. My husband got the double cheese burger and it was large. They patty their own burgers and he enjoyed it. I had the chicken strips and tater tots. They were decent but they don't have blue cheese dressing that I prefer to dip chicken strips in. The decor reminded me of cafeteria style. Moved into the Winchester area back in Dec. 2020 been working my way through the Restaurants looking for a good burger joint. Well I finally found it at Skips, the Burger was thick and juicy with a side of steak fries cooked to crispy perfection. The Onion rings were fantastic too. In all the place had a classic friendly home town dinner feel with friendly waitresses and a phenomenal cook whom knew how to fill the plate.
