OVERPROMISED & UNDERDELIVERED We hired Switala's Construction to tear off and redo two flat roofs that were holding water. Jim, who we worked with, was scatter-brained, cocky, forgetful, and TOLD us what we wanted rather than listening to us. If you like workers who smoke, show up late and leave early, leave a mess in your yard, take three weeks to do a week's worth of work, put up a tarp so poorly that rain water leaks into your kitchen ceiling, don't communicate when they promise to, and overcharge you by $10,000+ then Switala's Construction is the company for you. Our "before" and "after" pictures are nearly identical - in a bad way. The second roof never even got finished, with excuses such as "not enough men" and "workers in poor health." When we made Jim aware of the fact that one roof was still holding water months later, his only solution was offering to "come look at it." DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! Switala Construction; maybe we got a good roof but so much damage, nails and garbage left at my house. We had a new roof installed by Switala and it looks good. And I will give credit where it is due. The problem was with poor customer service and horrible cleanup and much property damage. Jeff A., from Switala, visited our home to review our roofing needs. We discussed all aspects of the roofing project in detail, and we had a lot of questions which he answered very well. He mentioned that they pride themselves with customer satisfaction and I saw on their website "Customer satisfaction as their top priority", and we discussed that in detail and also their cleanup procedure at the end of the job. Jeff wrote us a new roof & gutter proposal which we signed and returned on 4/6/2022. We understood that the installation was a few weeks out, which was OK, since we did not currently have any major leaks. After waiting a few weeks, we called and were told installation was about 2 weeks out. Over the next 5 months we called a number of times & was always told the installation was about 2 weeks out. They finally showed up September 28 to install the roof. I can understand that it is difficult to give an exact date, but we put off many projects and family activities for the spring, summer and fall just waiting. I don't blame the office personal for giving us the standard answer of "2 weeks", but I would have hoped that management would step in and give an honest estimate. That two weeks turned into 25 weeks waiting. Waiting was only the start of the problems. Our property was left in horrible condition with damage. After they left, I collected 4 white buckets of debris ranging from food, wrappers, razor blades, butts & construction material. Flowers were trampled, landscape lights broken off, siding with many tar streaks. But by far the worst problem was NAILS. There were nails left everywhere, bushes, driveway, and across the entire lawn. I weighed what I picked up & it was 7.4 pounds which was literally over a thousand nails. They used a leaf blower to blow off the roof debris and sidewalks which looked OK at that time. Later I found that the debris was blown into my pool & hot tub and clogged my brand-new pool filter system, which I had to drain. The hot tub was covered the 1st day but not the 2nd and a worker also fell in. The gutter crew showed up on October 10th & I showed them the big pile of garbage & nails I collected. They took all garbage back to the office and said that the owner, Bill Switala, will be very upset with how my property was left. At that point it sounded like I would get some action. I waited a few weeks but never heard a word from anyone at Switala. I called & asked the staff if Mr. Switala had any comments on the damage, garbage & nails left on my property. Within the hour, Mr. Switala called and apologized for the mess. I told him I made a list of 15 cleanup & property damage issues, and I started to read them off just to give him some feedback. After I read off 3 problems Bill offered me $100 then I read off a few more he upped it to $200 and that was the end of the conversation. I was not trying to squeeze money out of him but was only hoping to give him constructive feedback and maybe get some cleanup help. I forwarded many pictures of the property damage, garbage, and nails, and included a long letter to Mr. Switala on October 19th detailing the original 15 issues that we started to talk about over the phone. Way too many issues to post here. It is over 3 months now and I never got a response from my letter or any offer of repair or cleanup help. I continued to pick up construction debris before the snow hit and I gave up counting after I found 400 more nails and filled another bucket with garbage. Maybe a good roof, but the thought of my grandkids impaling themselves with nails if they are ever allowed to play on the lawn again, really scares me. Definitely no attempt at the touted "Customer Satisfaction" from Switala. But at least no roof leaks. read more

Very poor quality for the cost and takes no accountability. Covered up rotted wood and insulation instead of fixing or replacing.

Jim Martin, Owner, is very professional. His crews installed the vinyl siding, gutters and downspouts on our new home during the Fall 2019. Many of Switala's crews have been with the company for 5+ years. We always had an experienced crew leader on site. Crews were on time, worked full days and even weekend to get the job done. Final product was excellent. I'm very pleased and would hire Switala's for the next job. Jim Martin was accessible throughout the project. My roof was damaged during a wind storm. We called several companies and got quotes as the insurance company wrote and estimate with a promise to pay if all the repairs were done as specified. We chose this company because their quotes was lower. Not to mention i had given all of the companies the estimate completed by the insurance company to ensure that everything was on it. On top if it i had no knowledge of the other companies. But had gone to school with some of the family related go this one. Thinking use a small family owned company got such a large repair. Seemed like the right thing to do. So as it was they took three months to even do the repair. Never once calling to update me on a delay. Instead me having to call them. And even getting a rude secretary at times giving me attitude for even bothering them during this time. They do my roof at Christmas time. Knock my lights down and dont fix them. They even put gutters over the top of some of them. So i couldnt get them out when i went to take them down. I had to cut them to get them out! Then on top if it i notice some areas are missing flashing and the OWNER tells me that i didnt pay for that to be done?? So the damage from the wind storm didnt include the flashing that blew off during the storm?? So i spent almost 15000$!!!! And u actually tell me as a paying customer that i didnt pay for 100$ worth of flashing?? Does that even make sense? Plus my original quote was for 1500$ less they just happened to leave obvious things off. Then told me after they were almost done i basically had no choice. So i said yes and even then. They didnt think to include that?? Now wait for the best part. My dog screams in pain one day while eating grass by the gutter. I thought he cut himself as the end caps were all cut up. The following weak im putting my pool up and get seriously shocked by my gutter!!!! I then realize what must have happened to the dog. We were being shocked by our gutters and i just put a pool up by one of them. I have two small children and two dogs. I called some electrician friends to discuss how this could happen! Three different electricians first guessed that i had work done on my gutter and that a spike from that was hitting a live wire and connecting the metal gutters making a circuit allowing the current to flow through them. One of them came out and found that the current was ready 120Volts!! Thats like sticking your hand in an electric outlet. I got scared and blocked off the one by the pool. But had no way to protect my children and pets from the others. I called and told them nicely what the issues were. They were baffled but said they would come out the following day in the morning. No one showed up or even called. I called again and someone finally came out. The owner Mr. Martin says hes been doing this for 30 years and never heard of that?? Says hes not fixing the flashing because i didnt pay for it and he will have his electrician come out that day. If not he will call. Nothing. They did nothing. Im just going to have my lawyer contact them next. But myself and my dog were both shocked and the only thing i expected them to do was look at the problem and of course fix their mistake. I didnt write the estimate nor could i have even understood they intended to leave off three pieces of flashing from an entire tearoff roof project? Wow this is the worst company i have ever dealt with and i advise u not to use them for anything. Clearly if u take 15000$ from someone and still dont consider them a good customer you have a serious problem to fix. read more

The job was replacement of my roof in September 2011 by Switala's Siding and Cedar Inc., 9300 County Rd B, Clarence Center, NY 14032, phone 716-741-8471, contact Jim Martin. The installation was done in two days. It appeared to be done well. The job included the SureStar PLUS Warranty valid until 2061. Warranty proved completely useless, see below. I had leakage on one section of the roof over a bay window just before Christmas 2017. I called and Jim Martin came out the day after Christmas to take a look. Since there was 5 ft. of snow in the yard and an 8 in. ice dam on the roof no action was taken until it was possible for inspection in the spring. I had to call twice in April 2018 before Jim came out again to the house in May 2018. No ownership of the problem was taken by Switala, even if I had not requested any compensation for the damage done to local ceiling, wall and floor. After that I tried to have them come out and provide me with a repair to prevent recurrence. I received no response to any of my subsequent requests which were made either by email and certified letter. Stay away from Switala's. read more
