They are really good with their time management during their tutoring sessions. Jason's response time to questions and concerns are quick. The initial meeting was very simple. My daughter took an assessment and Jason when over the results and discussed the best placement for her. My daughter does need the one to one instruction or small group due to her learning needs and this was the best place for it. My daughter has been a struggled learner with inattentive ADHD. It is very difficult for her to retain information and I have noticed a difference with her in processing information and her academics. She has picked up some learning strategies that I know she wasn't getting from me or her school. She dreads reading, but I have noticed that she is independently looking at her surroundings and trying to read words more. She is blending and chunking words a lot better since she has started at this center. When she is reading I noticed that she is actually using context clues and making inferences about what she is reading. She also comments about her tutors outside of the center, which is really positive for me to see and hear because when a child talks about their school day, it shows that they are being engaged and intrinsically motivated. My daughter enjoys coming here and she loves the incentives they provide.

The flexibility has been a real plus -- you can move between onsite and online anytime, and they've been very accommodating with last-minute rescheduling and pausing during vacation. Their approach: they assess your child's actual level, follow the California curriculum, and won't advance to a new topic until the current one is mastered. That cuts both ways. It can get repetitive and boring for the child at times. We raised this with the center and they worked with the child on it. The big upside is that gaps don't get papered over. Worth mentioning: they don't assign homework. All the work happens in-session, so it doesn't add to the pile your child is already carrying from school. Every kid has their own way of learning, their own preferred subjects, and their own motivation. Mine has not expressed much love for math -- but the grades ended up being A's, and I believe Mathnasium contributed to that. It's not the only factor, of course there are very important ones: daily parent support with school homework and test prep. For a while it felt like my child was going backwards, working on older topics while school has moved on. The Mathnasium team has been responsive whenever we've had questions. Choosing an after-school math academy wasn't an easy decision. It's a long-term commitment of both time and money, and we struggled with it. Sharing our experience in case it helps other parents weighing the same choice. Recommended -- as long as you understand the method and aren't expecting overnight results.

Even worse he missed the whole last unit class due to AP exams. That left him very little chance to bump to an A unless he can do extremely well on his last unit test and the final exam. Since my son is new to Andy, Andy spend time to communicate with me about my son's background. He asked all possible materials(syllabus, my son's gradebook, homework etc) to identify a plan. Since lack of time, he picked the most difficult chapters in the last unit to teach. After working with him, my son got a 104 out of 105 in his last unit test, the highest score my son ever gets. He even answered right on the bonus question. My son was encouraged by the result. For the final exam preparation, since we have only less than a week left, Andy suggests to focus on two of his weakest units. Even in short of time, Andy doesn't rush. He still worked from the basic concepts and filled the gaps that he observed. Andy also tried to correct my son's working habit, asking him not to skip steps when he does problems in his class. That is one of my son's biggest reasons to miss math problem. The final exam was very hard but my son did much better than expected. He got a 92 and finally bumped his grade to an A! He was so excited. We really appreciate Andy's help. He is very experienced, honest, and encouraging. He knows very well on how to identify where need to be focus on. I wanted to better connect with the language associated with my heritage, so I decided to invest the time and money to learn Tagalog. I took the Level 1 hybrid course with Rhya in early summer 2026. Overall, it provided a great foundation for introductory grammar and vocab for Tagalog. By the end of the first course, you quickly become comfortable being able to ask simple questions (like where are you from? what's your name?), answering with affirmative/negation statements, and even being able to ask "how much/how many" with Tagalog numbers right off the bat. The class structure felt perfect, with the small class sizes. The course was very interactive, as we were constantly engaging and practicing the language throughout each course. And of course, it provided a safe space to make mistakes and grow with the language. If we made a mistake, Rhya would walk us through our mistake to help understand where it was and why the correct answer was provided. The class structure was also perfect for my work schedule. There were times I had to travel for work and miss a lecture. Because I was signed up for the hybrid course, I was provided class recordings after each session, allowing me to catch up and not feel left behind. The sessions are definitely catered to working adults, with all courses being offered in the evenings. Each session was 90 mins long each week for 7 weeks. I learned a lot from Level 1, and I'm excited to continue on to Level 2!

The instructor that I had, Keiko is great. She is very patient and always willing to help. (The courses can be fast though depending the language and the books being used). The other people there are always very polite and helpful as well. The facility, while basic, is clean and conducive to learning. They seem to use a mix of media (e.g. slides, Quizlet, etc. which is good). FYI - it is near SJC - San Jose Int'l airport and the jets taking off can be somewhat loud at times.
