Even though it was definitely a challenging room, we had an amazing time from start to finish! Our group included three kids ages 10 and under, and everyone was able to participate and have fun. The puzzles were engaging, the atmosphere was immersive, and it made for a great family activity. The facility was clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. They really helped make our first escape room experience a memorable one. From Fox Valley Mall into Mish Mash, this place is awesome. The art, digital lighting, signage, and aesthetics are so cool. They did an incredible job with designing it. Mish Mash feels like a liminal space sometimes. I have to dock 3 stars for the complexity of the games, the speed of the games, and the setup of the games. 1 Star Docked for the Setup. The rooms each have a card scanner with a code you enter. That's easy enough. But some rooms require you to push buttons to select teams. Each room handles this differently. It was confusing. Stuff like this needs to be decided outside the room. By the time you go inside the room, you should be playing the game. I don't want to spend an additional 1-3 minutes learning how the setup works. 1 Star Docked for the Complexity of the Games. This makes me sad because the rooms look amazing. The soccer game's fence is too low, so balls ricochet easily. The ropes rooms are too intense for bigger adults, and quite frankly, a liability. The sewer room is a cool concept but way too difficult to climb for adults. The cathedral room we solved, but the game penalized us for not pushing the buttons at the end. We didn't know and the staff didn't give us the points. The biblioteca and crime wall room's tablets froze and we couldn't finish the games. The room with the white cables and colors doesn't give you enough instructions. In fact, please don't give us riddles. Just tell us what to do. I don't want to be even more confused than I already am. Please just forgo the riddles entirely. 1 Star Docked for the Speed of the games. From entering a room to start, the games take forever. 3 minute countdown becomes a 10 second countdown, which then becomes a 10-15 second riddle, which then becomes the room turning on. It's a lot of time docked for just waiting. I was getting impatient. New rooms made me nervous. I'm sad. This place looked so cool. The rooms are beautiful, but disappointing. If I could change mish mash, I would instead do a museum style approach, where the tablets are removed, the magnet doors are removed. And players are instead given an app or a tablet, and each room can be freely entered and played with. And maybe have players solve a mystery and learn to communicate with each other and perhaps with others. And maybe each room has a sort of solution or goal that works towards a greater goal? Or doing a set number of instructions will flash a code that can be used in a phone or tablet to open up more clues or something. That way the whole exiting and re-entering can be alleviated. Either that or take a road trip to activate games down the street and create games that are a little simpler in design. Mish Mash is a good concept but it needs more time to cook. Thank you for the experience, but until they fix things, I wouldn't recommend coming back.

I totally don't remember the name of our game master, but I felt that she wasn't really watching what we were doing, because when we asked for clues, she mentioned things that we already did at first. 815 Mistake This was…read moreone of the first escape rooms me and my wife ever did. We returned after they added their new room the clock themed one. In the meantime we have done over 40+ escape rooms with roughly 15+ different companies. This place ranks the lowest on our scale to date. The puzzles, rooms, props and mechanisms are all very underwhelming. The puzzle structure is prime for bottle necking and the game masters we've had provided the worst "hints" of any company. When people need to repeatedly ask for hints on your hints it may be in fact time for you yourself to take a hint that your help is anything but. The only positive I can give is, that of the few mechanisms nothing broke. This place has no competition in Rockford but if ANY came to town I would not be surprised to see it close like the axe throwing place next door. There are 20+ places closer to Chicago, consider them before here.

We tried "The Passage" room and I don't want to spoil it, but there were multiple rooms and even a water feature built in. You could tell that they put a ton of work into the room(s), from the build quality to the complexity of the clues. Joe, one of the owners, was very generous with clues and talked to us afterwards about the new rooms he will be setting up. This was one of the coolest escape room experiences we've ever had.
