Charged $20 more than initially quoted because they said our small dog was uncooperative and had a few mattes. He seemed traumatized for a few days after grooming. Based on recommendations we took our dog there to be groomed. We provided grooming instructions via email (along with pics) and in person which they wrote down. When we picked our dog up they had completely ignored our instructions. The groomer apologized and said she must have just been on "auto-pilot." We didn't really have a choice but to book this place for our dog last minute, so I guess the fact they had availability for him when no other boarding place did should have been a red flag, but we had no choice. We paid extra for a luxury suite but when my husband dropped our dog off, he asked to see where he would be staying and they told him he couldn't see it. They said something about "we just have so many dogs back there," but if we're paying extra, how do we even know if he got it? We also paid for a bath and nail trim, but he smelled like he did when we brought him there and his nails weren't trimmed all. As soon as he got home he drank 2 whole bowls of water within 10 minutes as if he wasn't given any during his stay. He's never drank that much water before. Do not recommend this place! read more

We boarded two dogs over the weekend so I could attend my brother's funeral. Upon picking up our dogs today, one completely chewed through her harness and another has a UTI. What sort of "pet resort and spa" doesn't pay attention to the dogs for so long they're chewing through their leash? Why was she even wearing it for so long??? My other dog held her bathroom for so long she has a UTI - that is so unacceptable. Don't board dogs if you can't show compassion and care for them. What a fucking joke. I cannot recommend Sydney's enough. We have used them for grooming for almost 10 years, and we just got two new puppies and are using them for daycare for these two monsters as well. We just dropped our dog off today for boarding and with other boarding options the dogs get to play during the day but here dogs are just kenneled all day and only get let out 4 times a day for 5 minutes other than that they don't get to socialize. Absolutely LOVE this place and so does our dog!! We regularly use Sydney's for boarding which has always been great. They always offer extra walks, or doggie daycare while we board our dogs. I never took them up on this daycare thing because we had older dogs and they really just want to be left alone and lay around. Fast Forward my daughter gets a dog and we are lucky enough to keep it when she goes out of town. We haven't had a dog full of energy for many years. So i decided i would take him to Sydney's and see how the doggie daycare was. Frank absolutely loves it!!! He's so very excited to go inside and i know he's taken care. When i pick him up after a full day or half day he's happy and tired!!!! Yay for me!!! They also do many specials through the month. Example: Half Price daycare on Wednesday. Took both my pups in for grooming. Both came out with the worst cuts ever. Uneven, choppy, hair that should not have been cut is gone. not even close to the appropriate cut for the breeds of dogs. I should have know better when I walked in and the place was not clean. Lesson learned. read more

So I've been using Sydney's Pet spa since I've adopted my puppy, but this last experience I've had makes me rethink using them again. I've boarded my pup previously for 3 or 4 days before, and brought him home with no problem. However when I picked up my pup Monday from a 4 day stay...we encountered a number of issues. The most obvious one - he came home smelling like urine, which I've not had to deal with previously with this kennel. The more glaring one, was that my pup (for the first time since I've used Sydney's by the way) came home desperate for food and water. In fact, he actually started crying when I was getting ready to feed him, he was that hungry. We've never had this problem before with Sydney, so I was already concerned. Most importantly however, was that he came home and ended up with some severe separation anxiety the last few days. He cries very hard whenever I have to leave to work. He's never shown any adverse reaction to being kenneled, and never displayed this degree of anxiety when I leave for work in the mornings. When he was first boarded he was 3 months old, and was left for the same number of days - No Problems when I got home! I'm not sure I'll be returning. I had a better experience with the PetsHotel at the Merriam PetSmart over the Thanksgiving holiday. Overall, sadly disappointed with this experience. read more

Look, I'm not here to throw darts but just report what I saw. My wife and I stopped by for an unannounced tour of this place Saturday. Yikes.... The entrance and reception area was filthy, I mean hair piled up along the walls, urine smell and the floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned. We quickly didn't like how accessible some of the luxury suites were to anyone. They are pretty much at the main entrance without a gate between them and the front door. If they get out of their suite, free access to the front door. We witnessed no less than 3 kennels that dogs were walking around in their own urine and feces. Our question was this- if they are taking the dogs out 4-5 times a day, it seems unusual they would be going in their own kennel. The rooms smelled terrible and the floors were disgusting. The young lady at the desk informed us the brochures did not have the right prices and she was "pretty sure" our dog would be $29 a night. We got in the car, looked at each other and agreed we would never step foot in there again. We were both surprised that a place in this location could get by with such unsanitary conditions. Our only plausible solution was their location ... convenient to most. In its current condition, there is no way we would leave our dog there. read more

Literally the worst grooming we have ever had. I showed pictures when I dropped our dog off of what we wanted him to look like. He came back with most his body shaved. His head was half shaved. Yes you read that correctly. Didn't smell like he had been bathed. Uneven haircut just about everywhere else. I do not recommend taking your dog here to get groomed. read more

Just picked up the dogs yesterday from a stay. They have raised their rates almost 20% and they told me that there is also going to be an even higher rate for holidays. I do not believe in companies charging a higher rate for holidays and I will no longer be bringing my dogs here. For ONE NIGHT of boarding, a little bit more than 24 hours, with a nail trim for each dog was about $91. This is ridiculous to me, especially since they are sharing a kennel. I will now be going to Pete&Mac's in Lenexa-- they offer a 5x6' enclosure for the dogs to share for $42/night after coupon ($52.50 before) and they don't charge extra for holidays. read more

BEST of the BEST is all I can say about this place. I was hesitant to take my dog to any boarding place or daycare. I went and toured every doggie boarding place in the greater KC area and this one by far exceeded all expectations. They have doggie suites to meet every size of dog and they think of everything from dog beds in the suites, to play time, to extra walks to special bones. I have taken my dog there on a regualr basis for over a year now. He goes there on weekly basis for daycare and when I am away on business and/or vacation. Its the only place I can take him without worring the entrie time about him. He is spoiled rotten at home and I would not take him anyplace that doesn't papmer him just like I do at home. He is always happy to see me when I pick him up but you can tell he has had a great time while I was away. The staff is always professional, friendly and knowadgeble. I also buy these frozen bones from them and take them him for treats. They keep him busy and he loves them. I could go on an on about this place but you will see for yourself....it is truely the BEST Pet Spa in the whole greater KC area! read more

Terrible customer service, first i tried calling to make an appointment. Because, I live out of town, my friend who lives in the area called 6 times and left 3 voicemails, that were never returned. So I finally booked online for 11:00 with Rena on a Monday and tried to call and confirm my reservation and never received a call back. I showed up on Monday without having any confirmation of an appointment. The young lady at the reception area was less than apologetic and just completely blew off the customer service aspect. BE WARY - PICKED UP INJURED DOG. I've used Sydney's before from time to time and was never overly impressed but got my dogs back in one piece and clean so I didn't mind. That has now changed. I dropped them off for an extended weekend trip, Thursday through Monday. I received a call Sunday saying they noticed my three year old dog had been limping and they asked me if he sometimes limps for no reason. I said no, how ridiculous. I asked if he had any obvious injury and they said no and that he didn't seem to be in pain when they touched his paw. I told them to continue to watch him as I would be back the next day and update me if anything changed. After I landed Monday, I called them to see how my dog was doing. They told me they didn't know and they would have to find out what was going on. After waiting for several minutes they came back on the phone and said he wasn't limping, he seemed just fine today. After hanging up I got a call back about 30 minutes later stating actually, no, he was limping and they just hadn't noticed it earlier when he was out in daycare. When I arrive, I went to touch it and he instantly pulled back and yelped like it hurt. So not only did they not know how he got hurt, but they also hadn't watched him today after knowing he had been hurt in their care. Very under impressed and will not take my dogs back. read more

Sadly enough, I have to update my review. Three stars only because I want to give Erin the benefit of the doubt, but in my heart...... Having fallen in love with SPS and receiving the ROTD for my review, I am disappointed that things have changed in short order. Whereas our dog would come home exhausted yet happy, the last few times she has come home full of energy, and unhappy. I believe that there has been staff turnover (maybe more than I realize) that could make that difference. But it's happened too many times that I just have a hard time trusting I'm getting what I pay for. Without doggy cams, or any other way to tell if my dog is getting exercised, play time, outside time, all of which I am paying extra for, I have a hard time now taking my dog there. I am sure we aren't getting the baths, the nail clippings, the marrow bones, that we pay for (they always conveniently 'forget' to give us the bone unless we specifically ask for it upon leaving...and sometimes a different person picks up the dog; and they TELL me they clipped her nails, but they look just as long to me; should I have to take a pic of before and after???)..... I'm leaving it at 3 stars right now, because I haven't completely written them off 100%, but we may not be returning. I thought maybe it was just me, but having read other reviews with the same concerns, I know it isn't. :( :( :( read more

Our dog Mandy simply LOVES doggie daycare at Sydney's. With a few exceptions (ex. holidays, spring break, etc.), daycare is 1/2 PRICE twice per week. Even though the standard rates are fairly priced, who can ignore a great deal? When we arrive, we're always greeted with smiles and a warm reception. Mandy is always called by her first name. Occasionally we'll see an action photo posted during the day on Sydney's Facebook page. When it's time for pick-up, Mandy always greets us with bounding enthusiasm, suggesting she's had another great visit. Then 30-45 minutes after returning home ... NAP TIME - all worn out! We (Mandy included), love doggie daycare at Sydney's. Thanks for keeping her safe and treating us like family. read more

My dog passed away the day after being in Sydney's care. The manager who was on duty was supposed to call me back and never did. A couple days later our other dog became ill. While still grieving the loss of our beloved dog we all, including our vet, became very worried about the health of our other dog. Our vet contacted Sydney's to see if she could find out more about any possible illnesses, etc so that she could properly treat our dog. She reported that the manager was very curt with her, and that she would not recommend taking a pet there again. The owner has still not contacted me. Sydney's has lost my business and several friends and family members' business because of this unfortunate incident. read more

We leave in Wichita and go to Kansas CIty a lot to shop. I was going on a Girl trip and my husband was out of town. I didnt know what I was going to do with my baby. (pup). Dog came back from doggy daycare with a horrible rash despite all the preventative flee and tick medication. It's covering her entire body. I'm now having to take her to the vet to get treated. Rash did not begin until she left this boarding facility. I got really bad vibes when dropping her off and turns out I should have not left her there. Use this place at your own risk. I don't think they have what it takes to run a clean dog care facility. Like most of the reviews say, it's very dark and smells like urine. read more

On June 28, 2018 I took 2 of my dogs in for a bath and nail trimming, they were there for 5 hours in a kennel. When they called me to pick them up I paid in advance when they went to get my dogs, I didn't think they smelled very good. I asked if they were sure that they had been bathed and they said yes. They did have bandanas on. When I put them in the car I smelled them again and looked at their nails. They had not been bathed or their nails clipped. The girl came out to my car said they had been bathed but they must have forgotten their nails, she then clipped them in my car. I went in and asked another employee come out to smell my dogs, she agreed they had not been bathed. They refunded my money but my dogs were petrified of being there, much less for 5 hours for nothing. Never again will I use them or recommend them. read more

Love Sydney's and have been taking my "baby" there since 2011. I have never had anything but positive experiences. The staff has always been friendly, caring and obviously love animals. They always greet my dog with lots of hugs and love! My dog is family to me and I am extremely careful about who takes care of him. We had used Sydneys before for grooming and found it good. Had to leave the cat and dog there for six days. Dog is elderly but she mostly sleeps. Cat is a young 2 years old but very needy of attention. We left our vet's name and number and Sydney's Pet Spa said "Oh no problem. We work with them." Came back six days later and the dog was ok but the cat was in a cage without food or water and lying in the litter box, lethargic. Turned out we had to take him to urgent care immediately and thence to the animal hospital where he was put into ICU care as his bladder was ready to burst. There was blood coming from his urethra. He survived but barely. We did not get a "sorry" or a refund. No more Sydneys Pet Spa!!!!! read more

We boarded our two dogs here for a an overnight stay at the recommendation of another customer. We picked up our dogs Sunday afternoon and they had neither been walked nor pottied. They were both COVERED in urine and had to be bathed before our 10 hour car ride home. Do not use this establishment, and especially do not pay extra for playtime or walks! We board our pets often as frequent travelers and have never had a problem. It was pretty ridiculous read more
