Intimate and beautiful pilates studio, where each class is almost like a private class. For many years, I thought about trying Pilates, but was a little intimidated by all the machines and wasn't sure if I could do it. I finally tried Synced Pilates thanks to a friend/neighbor's recommendation and now I'm hooked. I feel so much better after each class and learn some moves and stretches that help my lower back pains etc. Would definitely recommend giving this studio a try. Really enjoyed my first lesson with Sue. The lesson was very technical and precise and she had plenty of corrections (all of which I love) while keeping a pretty fast pace. Usually I've found pilates teachers either slow the pace down to correct or they speed through and you're on your own. Sue was able to blend both and her corrections got me to actually use the muscles I wanted (like deep abs). Highly recommend Sue and her studio and wish it was closer so I could go all the time. read more

The lovely owner Avenne has a well equipped and intimate studio that I feel very comfortable in, providing private lessons and classes. I've practiced with one of her instructors Celeste in LA before and stoked she's back in the Bay Area. I've always been a physically active person and a motorcyclist. I've had reconstructive spinal surgery among a few others, as a result from being hit on my moto & stenosis. The body is resilient & needs more than PT. After sheltering in my Glen Park home since March 2020, I finally emerged to have my beloved and sorely missed one-on-one private session with Avenne (owner) in the newly relocated Synced Pilates (SP) where Mission Street meets Bernal Heights. Compared to the previous location in Glen Park, the SP space is truly beautiful and amazingly spacious where there are 6 reformers (1 in a private room). With enough room for an art gallery event, the high ceilings & large studio layout increased my sense of openness for my mind. My session today awakened my pilates deprived self with the guidance of Avenne's expertise. I forgot how much I neglected my body for 2+ years. Avenne helped me get through Covid's initial waves through Zoom group pilates classes but nothing compares to in-person sessions. After getting quadruple vaccinated and trying to rebuild my new normal life, I encourage Yelpers to give SP a try. Your body and mind will thank you. read more

I've been visiting the studio and taking classes with Avenne for a year and a half and can't say enough wonderful things! I found Synced when I was looking to supplement my physical therapy after a running injury. Pilates has helped me build body awareness, strength, and flexibility, which in turn has helped with all the other activities I love (climbing, snowboarding, lifting boxes without hurting my back, etc.). I have been going here for over a year and now Pilates is part of my weekly Sunday routine with Leah. Leah is a fab instructor! She is very sweet, patient, and helpful. Pilates can be very intimidating when you first take it, but she helped me feel welcome and taught me the proper techniques. I started taking prenatal pilates while 3 months preggos and kept going until 3 days before I went into labor! It was helpful to keep me in shape and help me strengthen my pushing muscles. When it was time to push the baby out, it only took about 30 minutes! Then after recovery from the pregnancy, I started bringing my baby to Peewees and Pilates where I would do exercises with her. It was a great bonding experience for me and my baby girl and I could get my preggos body back into shape. Plus I didn't have to worry about someone looking after the baby at home! But alas, my baby is 8 months now and crawling all over the place so she is too big for this class now. :( Now I am going to the Mat Class on Sundays (and sometimes mixed springboard when they offer it!), and it is a great energizer and stress reliever. It is nice seeing the same few lady friends in there every week too! read more

I've been taking one-one sessions with Leah for about six weeks now and the results are fantastic. We do a combination of Mat and reformer exercises which are challenging. I've seen more results in a shorter period of time with Leah than I ever have with a Personal Trainer. She also changes things up, uses all the apparatas, so I'm not bored, and I continue to work different areas of my body. The studio is bright, clean and low key and a very convenient location. I'm starting to take the scheduled classes also, so am looking forward to those. read more

Lots of great teachers with slightly different styles. Some instructors are classic pilates, others add a bit of yoga or cardio. Advanced classes can be very challenging, so it's best to start with intro springboard before doing Next Level Mat. read more

My teacher was Avenne and she was able to really, really hone in on a very precise Pilates workout for me and my body with all it's particular weirdnesses. I love Centered Body Pilates! The staff is friendly, personable, and attentive. The group classes are small, and catered to the indvidual needs within the group. If you want to challenge your body and meet interesting people, it's easy to crack a sweat and have a good conversation in the process. I have worked with Blair, who will put you at ease while she works you out. Allison is a stellar instructor as well. The rates are reasonable for San Francisco - 10 classes for $150 is the best deal. I am so happy this place exists. I've been going here for ~ 4 years on and off. I started with a prenatal class and then came back 2 years later when I had time to exercise again. They have instructors with different styles there, so make sure you check out different instructors and find the one that fits your needs the best. Also, the location is really convenient and you can always find parking, even if it's just metered parking. Just be careful with street cleaning if you are going for the morning class. read more

I recently purchased the Bloomspot offer for the Glen Park studio & was totally looking forward to it UNTIL..... I sent an email asking whether or not BOTH the reformer & mat intro classes were necessary for a newbie to take. After 2 responses from Sara, I received a RUDE response to my standard newbie question. Maybe I was confusing to Sara, or maybe she was confused about what Bloomspot offered, but I expect basic customer service from ANY merchant. If there is a misunderstanding I would expect a phone call to clarify or be asked to call into the studio myself (which I would gladly do) BEFORE sending a frustrated, rude & nasty response. I really hope this is a one time thing for them & not the norm, but like I've said, I've never been there before, but talk about a first impression! I WAS SUPPPPER EXCITED to try it too! :'( read more

I've been coming here about 9 months - I LOVE the Sat and Sun morning classes. It is the best way to start my weekends - a good workout. Avenne and Blair are great instructors. They know their stuff - and make sure your exercise goals are met. One of the things I like about this studio - it isn't so crowded that you must schedule weeks in advance - so even weekday classes, I can sign up a few days in advance and get in. The studio location is great - about 1 block from Glen Park Bart. From May-Oct, the Bart parking lot hosts a farmers market - so on Sunday, I get my workout done, and head for some organic local food. It doesn't get much better than that! But beware this also limits parking options. The studio caters to Glen Park, Mission Terrace, Sunnyside, Bernal Heights and other close surrounds. For a snack following class, check out Canyon Market or Destination Baking Company! Several excellent local coffee shops too. read more

I took quite a few Pilates classes years ago when I was rehabbing my knee after a surgery. In one hour, Avenne taught me more about alignment and efficiency of movement than I learned in all of those prior classes combined. Super effective session. I also liked the studio. Happy 2011--time for all those NYE resolutions. Centered Body has been a great experience as I attempt to get the post-baby body back to pre-baby. I have had a few private sessions and their instructors are great, informative and helpful. I have been to other more "famous" studios around town and you feel rushed or just another $$$. At Centered Body, they listen to your concerns and you don't feel judge for not being fit. Nothing worse than feeling "less than" by a 25 yr.old who spends 8 hrs a day working on their body. Working your core is hard enough. The Glen Park studio is in a very convenient location. Parking is never an issue. Make 2011 your strongest core year yet! Or at least try :) read more

The new Centered Body Pilates studio in Glen Park gets winning marks in all categories, offering: a simple, clean studio - white walls, bamboo floor, a few machines, three mats laid out side by side; well-educated and dedicated teachers; and small classes or private lessons offering personalized training. As a yogini, dancer, and body worker, I think I know my body better than most. Yet just one session with Sarah opened my eyes to several self-imposed limitations. I became aware of unnecessary muscular tension in my hip flexors and quickly realized the weakness in some of my low abdominals. Sarah's attentiveness to my posture throughout the session was immeasurably helpful, and she thoroughly explained muscle relationships in a way that deepened my understanding of true core strength. I use her recommendations when working out on my own and within a week, really noticed a difference in core strength and stability. I'm looking forward to my next session. Another note: when I was waiting for my session to begin, Sarah was finishing up a session with another teacher. I think that's great that instructors help train and educate one another. Getting into a regular routine with pilates changed my life a few years ago. I was in the best shape I've ever been but, when my instructor of 3 years left the country, I went into mourning. I was recovering from a ruptured disc and had a tremendous amount of pain and restricted movement. After my PT got me stabilized, the Pilates instructors were able to work with my specific challenges to set me on a path to recovery.
