Synchrony Bank closed my Pandora account without proper notice after a weekly payment failed, even though the payment was corrected within the same billing cycle. They took three weeks to notify me, and after reviewing my case, they admitted in writing that there was no reason for the closure and reopened the account. One month later, they closed it again without any explanation, and customer service could not provide a reason. We have had the fred meyers jewelers card thru syncrony for a couple of years now and did the promos and always paid it off early so we didnt pay interest. then we went and bought another item and have been paying on it every month and have to have it paid in full by december 2025. we have already paid it down $3200 and out of the blue we get online and shows our account is closed down with no credit left and we still owe the balance that is still not due for another year. Never been late with them and always paid them and now it is making our credit look horrible with an open balance on a closed account. I bought a dump trailer this spring and the dealership said they financing through 3rd parties that I could utilize for my loan. Without my knowing they signed me up for a credit card which when I received it in the mail I was extremely confused. Since then I have contacted customer service about the issue which they could care less that I was signed up for something I never asked for. I have never been able to access my account online as it says my info is incorrect. They often send my paper copy when the payment is due within a few days. Of course since I can't pay online I send my check and am being charged late fees because I have no chance to get my payment to them on time. I have talked to reps and they have never removed the late fees, I have over 800 credit rating- I don't make late payments. This company is a joke and full of a bunch of scam artists. In my lifetime they're up there with the worse companies I have had to deal with. Recently I found out I could pay online the phone since I had never received my paper statement. The LOWES Credit card is backed by Synchrony Bank, and they seem to have questionable business practices with their credit cards. They refused to credit back the interest I continued to incur, after I had paid my account in full for two months. Missing a 24.00 LOWES credit card payment, cost me an extra 9.00 plus; they charged me two months of interest, resulting from this 24.00 purchase. Furthermore, it took 10 minutes to connect to a rep who couldn't help me, and put me back in the queue, where I had to wait another 10 minutes in their voicemail nightmare queue, to validate my account all over again... To avoid future exhorbitant credit card interest charges and incompetent service, I would recommend anyone who has a credit card with the issuing bank of Synchrony Bank, CANCEL IT! These people are clowns. Don't do business with them. If a business offers you an in-store card, ask them, "is it through Synchrony?" and if they say yes, you say, "NO THANKS!" My first experience with Synchrony was through CareCredit. My cat had been accidentally let out by a housemate and had been badly injured. She is permanently disabled and had to have her tail amputated. CareCredit called me the very next month to remind me that my payment was due, and offer to take payment over the phone. I thought, "oh how nice," but it wasn't nice. It was a scam - because a year later, despite never missing a payment, my balance had actually gone UP. I called to find out what went wrong, and was informed that they only call the day after your payment is due, and a $40 late fee has been charged. Then there's an additional $15 fee for paying over the phone. I was making a $35 payment every month, but being charged $55 for over a year! The agent on the phone NEVER told me my payment was late. They always used the term, "due" so I thought the 26th was the due date. I was 25 years old and this was my first credit card. While I take responsibility for not having educated myself better, I stupidly trusted the Synchrony staff to be up front and honest with me and I think they are intentionally predatory. I started making the biggest payments I could afford until I was able to close the account in good standing. It took years for my credit to recover from all those late payments. Since then I have warned people away from CareCredit at every opportunity. A few years ago, I was building my first custom computer and signed up for a Newegg account. It was through Synchrony but I gave them the benefit of the doubt that the bad practices had been CareCredit staff/policy. I was incorrect. Last year, Synchrony switched internal software systems for their auto-payments and failed to roll over my payment information, leading to several missed payments, hundreds of dollars in fees, and a negative impact on my credit. I managed to get the fees reversed after an hour speaking with customer service, but they claimed there was nothing they could do about my credit score. I insisted they report the error, but the agent acted as if they had no idea how to do that and I was getting nowhere. Then, just now, I was checking my credit statement and I noticed the account was listed as closed. I didn't close it, and I hadn't missed a single payment since that issue was resolved. If it weren't for their mistake, the payment record on this account would be perfect. I contacted customer service again and at first, responses from "Ashley" were so nonsensical I thought she might be an AI. In my first message, I outlined my concerns, and she responded, "I'm glad to hear that." Huh?! Finally, she began speaking coherently. It turned out they canceled my card because my credit score dropped (partially their fault!) even though the account was in good standing. A closed account with a balance hurts my credit even further, and I've never seen a credit card company close an account in good standing just because the owner's credit score went down a bit. That should affect the approval of new accounts, not current accounts with no missed or late payments. It was bizarre and unprofessional. Checked a few forums and not only is this something they've done to other customers, several of the other complaints said the credit score Synchrony showed was up to 100 points lower than what the customer was seeing on other reporting sites, yet they use that erroneous score to justify closing accounts with no warning. I asked Ashley to email me a copy of our transcript, and she claimed, as before, that she had no way to do that, but I could print it out. I explained that a printed document can't be proven as authentic, and I needed a transcript to dispute the negative mark on my credit, the second one they've caused. She insisted that while they do save transcripts, they have no way to transfer them. I followed her instructions, but printing didn't work--it cut off most of the conversation. Copy-pasting into Word didn't work either; it looked too disjointed and messy to be taken seriously as evidence in a dispute. I ended up just paying off the balance and hoping that means I'm done with them. Absolute incompetence. read more

I have been dealing with Synchrony bank since March. I ordered sandals from QVC. One pair for $57.80. I have attempted to pay 4 different times only for them to say my payment was rejected. I spoke with one very compassionate lady on June 7th and she told me ALL I owed was $24.62. She waived a late fee, which I shouldn't have owed as they didn't accept my payment earlier. she gave me a confirmation # that I was paid in full. Now Synchrony is saying I owe $72.36!! That I ordered not one but 3 pair of sandals!! it has just gone on and on! This has all left me closing my QVC card because I don't want to deal with this bank. They charge userous interest rates, that are the envy of the mob, and they are "trigger happy" with their out - of - the blue fees (like where the f*@$ did that come from?!?!), and then charge interest on the fees. Here's how Syncronicity works: You apply for a loan. A beefy man named Mario answers the applications. He wears blue overalls with two big pockets, one stuffed with checks and the other with cash. He takes a puff of his cheap cigar then hands over a wad of bills. Mario reeks of men's cologne and tells you that 120 percent annual interest rate is the charge. If you miss one payment, you get a $56 late fee and a beating. If you miss two payments, Mario's brother Luigi (Syncorny's collection agent) comes by with his buddies and a baseball bat looking for total repayment or he's gonna break your knees. When I questioned it, they told me about a 30-day grace period to waive it, which started March 16. My experience was extremely unsatisfactory. I settled the approximate 200% they had added to the principal (ca. $40) about six months after the purchase. The attempts to communicate were the the worst I have ever experienced with a licensed business. I give approximate numbers because I immediately cancelled my card when I received the first written statement with exorbitant late fees and interest, and have destroyed all records of this experience. Even though the card was cancelled, they sent me an unexplained $7.03 statement a couple of weeks ago on the old account. One week late on a $29 payment. Got current and on the same day I got a "digital letter" stating that I'm not "credit worthy", my available credit line reduced from $1000 to $180 and demanded full balance of $108 paid immediately. 2 days after conversation they reported to credit bureau, they lied and told them I was 30 days late and my credit score dropped by 60 points. I then contacted consumer service as it states on this letter to inquire about it. Explained my situation and all she tells me is whatever the letter says. I'm not satisfied with the answer and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was on hold for over 20 minutes before I got mad and hung up. Call back next day and got same result. We purchased a Sleep Number bed and was given the option of 0% interest for three years. We set up an automatic payment with our bank to Synchrony for $130 per month, which would pay off debt in three years. After about 2 years we received a "missed payment" from Synchrony. When I checked with our bank I saw that payments were made each month. I then logged onto Synchrony's website and saw that they started adding $1.99 "paper fee". Since we were not aware of that fee, it wasn't payed so they adding $40 late fees. When it finally came to our attention the fees exceeded $200. We tried calling Synchrony but were unable to connect with a human. We then paid off debt in its entirety so we will never have to deal with Synchrony again. read more

Don't open an IRA account with Synchrony. They make it extremely difficult to get the money out when need be. The paperwork is extensive and once they finally release the money the don't offer to wire it, but send a check snail mail. They released my money on Feb 6th, at which time I have no more interest accrued. It is now Feb 12th and still haven't received the check. Synchrony Bank is a scam. They say they will investigate fraudulent charges, but they never do. I signed up for a Crate and Barrel Synchrony card at their Corte Madera, CA location on January 16, 2020. On January 17th, the very next day, someone at the C & B Naperville, Illinois store had charges over $1,400 to my new account. I had not received my card and had not activated my account. I did not authorize purchases at the Naperville store. I have never even been to the Naperville Crate and Barrel. I received my first bill in February and saw the fraudulent charges. So i call Synchrony Bank's fraud hotline and they said they would take care of it. In March, I got another bill for the same charges and called back. I had to demand manager after manager to finally get one that was not located at a call center int he Philippines. They sent a fraud form that I filled out and sent back. In April, I get a new bill with the same charges. I call back and Synchrony says it takes time. So I get a new bill just today on May 2 and still have a demand to pay the same fraudulent charges. This bank is running with attitudes from the 1950's regarding dealing with the female spouses of cardholders. I was placing an order for several items for one of our granddaugher's birthday this week from a store and I was using a credit card Synchrony manages. After placing my order with my payment info, my order was rejected because of credit card info. Knowing that there should be no financial reason for rejection, I called them to find out what the reason was. I made them get an agent on the phone, of course they have agents speaking very bad english that you can hardly understand. I am a female, and my name is on the card and the account along with my husband. My husband is the main name on account, like most of the accounts we have. She would not speak to me, she ONLY wanted to talk to my husband who was not available, he was sleeping. I have been married for 50 years, and have NOT had anyone tell me they couldn't talk to me when my name is on the account. I told her never mind, they wouldn't be getting the card business. I used a different card and probably will not be using that card again. When you are on the account, you should have access to the info regarding said account. Totally backwards company. Disgusting. Don't ever buy from Mattress Firm if you're using a promotion to finance. I have sent Synchrony Bank (the bank that financed my purchase) several payments over the last couple of weeks. Each payment has left my bank account. But then I get a message from Synchrony that they weren't able to process the payment and sent it back. NO money has been returned to me. I'm having to file a dispute, sending bank statements now. I'm supposed to have this bed interest free for three years. It kinda seems like they don't want me to make that goal. While I appreciate the sales team helping me find a bed I find comfortable, I can't sleep now. Update : it's now 3/19 and this bank has yet to resolve the issue even though I've sent all the required paperwork. Seems "they didn't get it." So I'm sending it again. I have a Sam's Club card that I've had since 2016. I'm on a fixed income and 70 years old. My credit has taken a hit the last few years as my now deceased father was taken ill and I was unable to work. I still kept my rent car note, auto insurance , cell phone and Sam's Club bill paid on time . Imagine my shock when I noticed that my credit limit at Sam's had gone from 1,000 to 820. I called Sam's and they referred me to Synchrony the owner of the credit card. After getting two foreign people that admitted they were offshore I got a condescending prick in Ohio not Utah where the bank is supposedly located. He told me a letter had been sent out saying that because my credit score had dropped they reduced my limit. I asked him under what reasons I had never been late and never gone over my amount and was in good standing with Sam's Club. He went on to tell me that AI does a soft credit pull twice yearly. My credit score had dropped so they took it upon their self to reduce what I could get at Sam's Club. Do not go with any card that is through this bank! The guy even had the audacity to tell me that they could have closed my account rather than just decreased my limit! Do not use this bank. I had a few accounts opened with Synchrony Bank over the years. Lowes Credit Card, Care Credit (Pets) , a line of credit with a furniture company and lastly Summit Racing Credit Card. With no notification Synchrony reduced my line of credit on my Lowes account as well as closed my Summit Racing account. I contacted them and they said they did it from inactivity. If I knew I needed to buy something on it once in a while I would have. I didn't know this was a thing. After a year only of inactivity they did this. Then they told me they could run my credit again to open it back up. Let's keep in mind my credit was ran a year previously to open the account to begin with AND the hard inquiry stays on your credit for 2 years. So they wanted to add another inquiry. Absolutely ridiculous. I closed all my accounts with Synchrony Bank. I'll find another institution to do business with. read more

I tried to get a JCPenney Gold card replaced. When I eventually got hold of someone to take care of that, they sent a standard credit card instead...after I CLEARLY stated what I needed. When I tried again, they wouldn't accept the card number they just issued to me. When I got technical help, they had several steps for verification; including a video of myself. I started an Airbnb business about a year ago. When I did this I received great interest rates at the time of purchase. After I made my purchases Synchrony closed all but 1 account with no notification. They immediately reported this to the credit bureau and upon my inspection they said my credit score had dropped a there for they closed my account. This was not due to any past or late payments with them... I had none. Now once they did this, they also deleted my online banking account via this app. So when I try to sign in... I can't because I don't have any open accounts.... Even tho I do but it's via an affiliate. Overall this company is terrible and I've had their employees flat out tell me on the phone not to do business with them. So if you're on the fence about them or Uplift or Affirm for your monthly payments... go with Uplift or Affirm. They are a modern company that is at least transparent with how they do business.
