Synchrony Bank recently closed 3 of my accounts with them and this decision was completely unwarranted. I had two Guitar Center cards and one Levin Furniture card. I found out about this through a push notification with Credit Karma. I am more so concerned about the Levin account. I called into customer service and the first representative I spoke with was extremely rude. He told me a letter was sent to me and he read the text of that letter. He eventually hung up on me. The reasons for my closure is completely bogus. I understand I agreed to their terms and conditions upon opening the account, but that doesn't mean I can't dispute their decision. I called back in and spoke with a friendly rep who transferred me to a supervisor. The supervisor told me it is impossible to reinstate my account, although reading some of the other complaints on BBB it seems they did reinstate other accounts for people. She gave me the corporate address to which I mailed a letter. I also filed a complaint through the chat system on their website. They sent me an email a few days letter with another letter that basically said the same thing as the first one. It was a do not reply email address so I couldn't send a response back. I have made every single payment on time for all 3 accounts that were closed, I had these accounts for years! It's no wonder why these guys have a 1.9 BBB rating. Closing your customers' accounts for bogus reasons is terrible customer service. I will consider my complaint resolved when all 3 of my closed accounts are re-opened. Until then, I will continue mailing letters and filing complaints with customer service. read more

I just received a letter from Synchrony Bank that told me they were raising their interest rate, APR for purchases, to 34.99%, and they're going to start charging to send me a paper billing statement! I pay my balance off every month anyway, but I think it's Usery to charge people this kind of interest rate. To say that these people are slick is inadequate. They have enough wiggle room in their payment systems and processes to let you think you've paid in full when (according to them) you were late. So the "paid in full" or zero balance you think you have doesn't exist - and you get an email dunning you more for another $32 (in my case) because even though I had a zero balance after paying, since my payment wasn't before the due date, they could tack on another $32 of late payment charge. These guys are slicker than your workaday loan shark, and (so far as I know) haven't broken any bones in collection efforts. Tony Soprano and Vito Corleone are green with envy. They had to work, be on the street, and take occasional risks with clients, rival outfits and the law. These guys have the law on their side, work in air conditioned offices and at most risk paper cuts opening envelopes with payment checks. The payment was processed on the due day but I was charged $29.00 late fee. Based on the balance, only $ 375, after one week, I was charged $8.70 for interest. After two conversations, they still thought they were absolutely correct. Extramely bad services, extramely tricky credit card, never, never apply for the Amazon Store Card!!! Also, the Amazon Gift Card and the Store Card possess the Same Number, which intentionally confused card appliers, I accidently applied the Gift Card but was issued the Store Card, and started my nightmare on using the Amazon Store Card. I reached out on the social media account (Facebook) to get information to pay off my loan. I am an active duty Soldier deployed overseas with only Wifi. My family was in the hurricane Ian with their house destroyed. My account was going to be overdue in two days. When I inquired what I can do with the situation at no fault of mine. The only option I received was to inquire a late fee. It's sad to know that this company doesn't have other alternatives for service members serving overseas with the many technological options out there. Obviously, I'm in a bad place needing a loan, deployed away from my family, and a hurricane just hit my house. Now, my only option is to eat this late fee from this company. I have had my account with Ashley Furniture and Discount tires for almost 2 years and never been late on neither one of my accounts. My credit limit with Ashley Furniture was $3000.00 and $1000.00 with Discount tires. I received a letter from synchrony Bank in December stating my credit has been decreased because of my credit score that they received from TransUnion Credit. I called synchrony bank and no one could explain what happened. I also called TransUnion and the Rep advised me that they my credit has not drop at all. As I stated above never late on either account in fact on the Discount Tire account I paid the total balance before the due date and for the Ashley Furniture one that will be paid before the interest kicks in. And this so bazaar Synchrony bank turns right around and issue me another line of credit with a Amazon Prime Store with a credit limit of a $1000. 00. This does not make any sense to me at all. Wow, I feel as though I was scammed and I hope this yelp will prevent others from being scammed too. Last spring, TJMax encouraged me to take out a credit card to get awards on a purchase. I asked them to bill my Discover card, which they didn't. They also put down the wrong address so I didn't receive a bill for for 2 months. My carrier recognized our name and corrected the address error. The item purchased was for 38.00. I contacted the credit card, corrected the error and sent out payment. The payment was received a week past its due date. Synchrony applied 2 late fees of $43.00 on my account. I spoke with customer service and they adjusted the fees and said i had a 0 balance. I used the card in June and paid it immediately. In September they sent me overdue fees, that were to be removed. These accumulated to over $127.00. I called cs again, they assured me the fees would be removed. I received another bill in October. Same problem. I spoke with a supervisor who said the 1st cs repp made an error. They can only remove one fee, even though this is the companies fault. I am done with them. I paid their bill and i will speak with bbb and file a complaint for unfair trade practices. Their fees were more than the merchandise. It is sad that a dishonest bank can possibly ruin the reputation of a good store chain. read more

Looks like Lowe's decided to switch their credit card over to Synchrony and immediately all kinds of new charges (none were previously agreed to by this guy) . A good example is a $1.99 statement fee. Who would agree to paying $24 p/yr to get a paper statement so they can pay their bill? Home Depot doesn't do this as well as many other cards. Absolutely disgusting business practices. They give you a promotion of no interest and have very strange opening and closing dates per month, so if you are late one day they will change charge a late fee. Then after the late fee they will charge an interest on the late fee! So, I decided to pay ahead. They will not apply the advanced payment o the next month, so the next month (even though you're thinking you paid ahead) You get a second late fee that is twice as large. Huge disconnect between Customers and call center customer service. The ability to communicate solutions to a customer should not require the level of effort I endured. After careful explanation that I needed a single e-statement, but did not want to to give up actual mailed copies... I was told this is not possible. Asked for a supervisor and finally got to "Joshua C" who was able to walk me through getting a "single e-statement" without losing paper copies. The other people told me this was impossible without abandoning paper al together. Thanks Joshua C... you are reason I did not leave a much lower 1-star rating. I call the 800# yet again, they reissue a card. Now neither of my cards work. I call the 800#, transferred to the fraud department, they are going to call me back, I never receive a call back. I call yet a third time, speak to a supervisor, no call back. I've been a customer since 1963. They must not know that I have multiple cards in my wallet to use at their stations. I changed my mobile phone number. I updated it on the Synchrony bank website for my savings account. The next time I try to login, I'm prompted to verify using my phone number. There were 6 old phone numbers in the drop-down box. But the phone number I just added to my account 2 weeks earlier was not listed. So I couldn't login to my account. This has happened to me in the past. The Synchrony agent said my new phone hasn't been verified yet. What? Every other bank and credit card company let me change my phone number online and I could use it to login immediately. Not Synchrony. The agent said my new phone would be added in 2 months. Really? I can't access my account for 2 months? To make matters worse, the agent rudely talked over me several times. Account closed. Don't risk getting locked out of your account for 2 months just because you change your phone number. read more

We did a CD with Synchrony and they didn't review with us the penalty for withdrawal had only a few day grace period after opening with them. They then only give a 10 day grace period after CD term completed until it automatically renews it. I would avoid Synchrony at all costs. customer service at for the credit card, specifically TJMax rewards card is the worst I have every experienced. I called to tell them my additional user didnt receive a new card with a valid expiration date and I was "punished" by having my own card cancelled without any notice. Went to pick up take out where it was refused. When I tried to resolve this via a phone call, I was treated as if I was a criminal. They would not verifiy my identity via my cell number or email address although they are all listed in my Profile with the company. If they used my cellphone I would have to send them a video of myself showing a valid ID form on the videio. They would only accept a code sent via my home phone which was fine except that I was talking to them ON my home phone. Thankfully the last person I spoke with allowed me to receive the code and then called me right back so I could repeat it to him. I use the card every couple of days and now I have to wait 7-10 days to see if we receive them. I have several Credit cards and never experienced anything like this. Synchrony Bank and other Credit Agencies need.to have a better system in place that detects when their customers phone numbers are already in use. I've dealt with Synchrony Bank twice. Both times have been a terrible experience. Once year ago for a Yamaha Waverunner Loan and the second time for a Suzuki Outboard Engine loan... because it was the only option for financing through the Suzuki Dealer. I have 700+ credit score. First ... They are a little Mickey Mouse lender ... without an online platform... so you can't login to make payments ... no email statements ... it all old school...... YES, you have to mail them in. Who writes checks anymore? On top of that.... They are one of the most dishonest lenders on the market. I understand that they make money by charging you ridiculous fees and making up fees.... and they are VERY good at that. Unfortunately, the second time ..... I paid $350 payments for about 4-5 months, then I made a $9500 payment to pay the loan off in its entitreity... because I didn't want to deal with them..... The statement balance was $9500. I sent in $9500. Then I get another statement in the mail with a $104 fee. "Oh well, we charge daily interest... so from the last statement balance, to the few days after when we received the payment this was the interest accrued" ..... WTF ? Is your interest charge 8,000% ? Piece of shit crooked lender. Stay far far away. read more
