The grounds are not safe for handicapped or visually impaired. Equipment, like for eyes, hasn't been updated for 19 years (when I was there). It should be shut down.

I had a single bed room and it was very comfortable with a large bathroom. Their plan is to get you up and moving. The dining room food was good with many choices plus they are informed of each patients dietary restrictions. The staff if very friendly and helpful to your needs. They also have an inexpensive meal program for your family who might be visiting during a meal time. When we got to Highgate, we were told that management got rid of all the wheel chairs, except one. The one they had left had no footrests, so my 89 yr old dad had to keep his feet elevated during the tour. I spoke with the director of Highgate, who told me it was both a liability (seriously?) and a hindrance to their assessment, which also sounds like bs. So, if this is how they care for their seniors when someone is watch, how good will the care be when nobody is watching, and what other goofy rules will they have? We're steering clear of this place, due to the terrible start we had.

When he was unable to progress they kindly encouraged we consider hospice services. I was in denial but it was the kindest thing to do. The hospice services were also top notch. We had Amber and Christie for most of the time. They ensured he was comfortable and helped me learn how to be the best caregiver I could be and helped me with the hardest part of our lives. Rocky was also incredibly helpful and kind. Last but not least we had Lucy the CNA with both services. She was incredibly kind and patient and Steve felt very comfortable with her.
