I probably would've overlooked this place if I hadn't already been made aware of it through the positive Yelp reviews I read during my research for a Seattle itinerary. Since it is a small establishment, I am a bit hesitant to give it three stars, but it was underwhelming compared to what I had expected after reading rave reviews. The inside was very welcoming to me; it was homey, giving similar vibes to my grandma's home/kitchen. There is very limited seating. FOOD: The food is definitely fresh and authentic, but I think I just prefer stronger, bolder flavors. The food here was very light and had a sort of healthy taste to it? Pan Fried Dumplings (3.5/5) - The fried dumpling skin had a nice texture to it, and the filling was juicy. It was okay; I didn't have strong feelings about it. Pork and Chive Dumplings with Hot and Spicy Sauce (3/5) - From the name, I was expecting a stronger flavor. The sauce was on a milder, vinegary side, so I was rather disappointed. Xiao Long Bao (4/5) - Juicy and came out piping hot (as reflected by the steam blurring my photos of it). Probably my favorite thing from what we ordered. Would've paired nicely with some ginger, but I forgot to ask if that was available. Szechuan Beef Noodle with Soup (3/5) - A cleaner, slightly herbal type of broth compared to what I am used to. SERVICE: The person helping us was nice. I don't know if they were having an off day, but it took a really long time for us to receive our food, despite it not being busy. The prices and portions here are really reasonable. Note that they only take cash or Venmo payments. The soup was super silky with just enough flavor. There was a light hint of Szechuan spice but not overpowering (just a note of it). The meat and tendon were soft and tender. I appreciated the bok choy as well. The only nitpick I have is the noodles were on the softer side (though I typically prefer firmer noodles). Went in on a weekday for lunch and had a great experience. Outside and inside are very unassuming, this is definitely a locals/if-you-know-you-know type of place. I ordered brown beef and tendon noodle soup. Good portions, flavor was mild, soup was hot. The beef and tendon were super tender, one of the best I've found so far in Seattle. The food is nothing fancy, but if you're craving comfort food- hot soup and noodles- on a gloomy day and want something low key, this is the spot. Im absolutely blown away by these dumplings, they are DELICIOUS. One bite of the veggie dumpling had me shocked and doing a double take. The veggie is so flavorful I honestly thought it was a meat dumpling. I did also try the pork ones and they are also very tasty. I've been coming here for close to 20 years. It's a hidden spot that has a few tables and mostly locals are ordering in Chinese. Pre pandemic I would see 3 ladies often rolling dumplings. There is a special technique that I noticed and a finesse in the dumpling making that was fascinating. I've tried almost everything on the menu and my favorite dishes are the spicy vegetarian dumplings with tofu and chives, the steamed chicken dumplings, the pancake, and the cold chicken noodle with peanuts sauce. The beef soup is outstanding as well. If you've traveled to China, this restaurant reminds me of a no frills location. That's what makes it stand out. This is the smashed variety. 3.5/5 - Chive box Honestly this would probably be rated the highest aside from the outsides being burnt when pan fried, leading to a burnt taste. 3/5 - Green onion pancake This is twice as thick as the usual ones, meaning it's much doughier. If it sits around for a bit too long on the table, it becomes really chewy. 3/5 Note: You can only pay with cash or venmo. Overall: I think I set my expectations too high given the high ratings. Overall I don't think it's quite as tasty as Dough Zone/ DTF, albeit this is more affordable. Service was fairly friendly and patient, it had the vibe of being at asian aunty's place. This place is very unassuming and is extremely easy to miss if you walk past it. This is definitely the definition of a hole in the wall restaurant. I came here on a Saturday morning after a night of drinking and it was a great place for food with the Szechuan spicy beef soup and the green onion pancake. There was only one other party when I walked in and the person serving us was friendly and was attentive. The ambience could be better but I don't usually pay attention to that much for a mom and pop shop. The green onion pancake is extremely good and I've never had it prepared in this way before. This is one of my favorite places in the ID. It's rare you'll find a crowd here, which makes getting a table easy despite it being a small restaurant. I always order the wonton noodle soup and potstickers, which are always consistent, flavorful and stuffed full of filling. The soup bowls are also fairly large and plenty filling. All of the dumplings are made in-house and during a slow moment, you'll occasionally get to see someone rolling them. Came in right after work and this place was a little empty, but don't let that fool you- their food is amazing! We ordered the pork and chive dumplings with the spicy sauce, Szechuan beef and tendon noodle bowl, and the seaweed salad with garlic. They were all amazing. The dumplings- they are handmade and you can totally tell because when you bite into it, you can tell it's made with love. The meat to wonton skin ratio is perfect and it's boiled to perfection. The sauce definitely takes it over the top! Try not to break it when you're mixing the sauce and the dumplings because it's all of it together that makes the perfect bite- it doesn't taste nearly as amazing if it's deconstructed. Also, watch out, it's hot!! I'm also usually not the biggest fan of beef noodle soup (牛肉麵）but this has got to be my favorite one so far! The broth is my favorite! The beef cubes and tendon were pretty good too :)! The noodles aren't knife cut, but they are cooked perfectly. I would definitely get this again! The garlic seaweed salad was just a nice touch :). We placed an order online for pickup, they would not give us the order at first, saying they didn't have an order for Rachel. My fiancé had to call me and have me confirm what we ordered twice. The pan fried pork and chive dumplings were borderline inedible. They were black on the bottoms and the filling was flavorless, and under seasoned. Salt makes things taste good, I promise. My fiancé had the brown beef with veggies and rice. It was unimpressive as well. The rice was over cooked and mushy, the bok choy was undercooked and bitter, and the beef was again poorly seasoned. The bok choy also had an earthiness that tasted like dirt, as well. 1 star because the order was correct, and 1 star for not having a 1 hour wait, like the place we had intended to go to. read more

i have not been to szechuan noodle bowl for years but that does not mean it doesn't hold a special place in my heart. when i first moved here, decades ago, i stumbled upon it and realized it was a hidden gem--way back then! obviously pre- covid, i remember going in and sitting at one table while some of the workers would sit at a table in the back with a large bowl of dumpling filling, chatting and sealing trays and trays of them right there. this was THE REAL DEAL and though i couldn't understand their chinese conversations, i could appreciate the hard work and patronize them on a regular basis to show my loyalty. cut to...today. it was the covid lunar new year food walk in the cid and i encouraged my friend who lives nearby but who's never tried their food to give it a go. i ordered my old standbys because i don't think you can find a better green onion pancake in seattle and the cold noodles with cucumbers, carrots and peanut sauce always seemed like comfort for me. here's the test of time: the food was just as good as i remember it! i hope they get enough business to weather the pandemic and come out the other end. seems like people were following the food walk map to order from them which makes me happy. so thrilled to be able to relive all the good meals i had there back in the day and to contemplate placing a frozen dumpling order to stock up my freezer in these weirdest of times. give them a chance! the restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside but i bet if you order from them, they'll soon become one of your new go-to places for take out. you have very little to lose and a lot of yumminess to gain. read more

This place is still really amazing after all these years. I found this place in college and have been coming back for their wonton soup and pork and napa cabbage dumplings ever since. The prices are still so cheap and the service is quick. I also like the atmosphere of the restaurant, perfect to take a few friends or go by yourself and watch something on your phone while eating. I would say if you are going to try this place get the wonton soup (large so you get 10 wontons in it) and the pork and napa cabbage dumplings. Missing Szechuan Noodle Bowl more than any other restaurant now that quarantine is in effect. I can't wait to return! It's small and homey, usually with distant music on the radio playing and a few friendly workers shaping and rolling dough at the back of the restaurant. It feels a lot like being right there in someone's kitchen. Intimate without being intimidating. I've visited a few times and tried different dishes, but my favorites are the spinach dumplings and onion pancakes. Great price, large serving, and always comforting. I had high hopes for this place since other reviews raved about it and it has the hole in the wall vibes, which is usually a good thing for Chinese food. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with any of the food we ordered. The beef noodle soup's broth wasn't that rich and tasted more vinegary than I expected. I haven't had beef noodle soup before, so maybe the restaurant made it properly and I just don't like the dish in general? Since I'm not sure if they did it poorly vs my personal preference I am giving the place 3 stars instead of 2. I also didn't like the noodles in the dish since they were as thick as udon, but not as chewy. The wontons were better than the beef noodle soup but only "ok" overall. The sauce was overwhelming and I couldn't taste the actual flavor of the wonton due to the sauce. The sauce itself was what I expected for a spicy sauce if not a little too vinegary.
