Half and half broth
Vinh M.

I've only ever heard of this place and decided to try it with some friends from LA. We went during dinner time on a Saturday, and for three people we didn't have to wait at all since the place was mostly empty. The restaurant is inside the Pacific Rim Center which also houses Joyale and Sushi Inc. as of this writing. To get here, there is a parking garage that's free but can be very tight for most cars to go through, so street parking is advised in this case. The interior has plenty of seating and is lit very well. As with most other hot pot restaurants nowadays, you order what you want through a tablet. You have a choice of several types of broths and many types of meats and veggies, and there's also a $3 sauce bar per person, which comes with some pretty unique cold desserts and a wide variety of sauces to choose from. For our visit, we got wagyu beef, lamb, meatballs, shrimp paste, fish balls, noodles, tofu skin, enoki mushrooms and others with a half-and-half soup base consisting of bone broth and tomato broth. You can ask for service and request the check via the order tablet. We had no problems getting and staying full, though I do prefer other places for hot pot around Chinatown due to the overall quality of our order.

- Good but not amazing - We came around 2pm on the weekend and it was quite empty with two groups dining beside us. It's our first time here, but we managed to park on the 3rd floor as I read in other reviews. Then we took the elevator down to the restaurant. We ordered handmade beef balls, two flavors soup base, tofu, lamb & beef combo, handmade noodles, winter melon, and chrysanthemum. We also got the sauce bar since they were marinated seaweed which my hubby likes. For the sauce bar, I tried both the purple rice sweet soup and the white fungus soup, and they are both good. Plus I ate some chicken feet for appetizer. I've only used the pork bone soup, so I can't tell how good the spicy soup base is. But based on how frequently it's used, I'm guessing Qiao Lin in downtown does it better. Everything was tasty, but nothing really stands out. I used a fantuan coupon, but I think Groupon is a better deal. I remember the total price for the two of us is around $72 on top of the $5 I spent on fantuan. Overall it's a good spot for hot pot if you happen to be in Chinatown, but it's not worth driving all the way for.

Overall: fresh high quality cuts, good selection, but pricey Food: 5/5 Wagyu and ribeye are marbled and fresh. The lamb and beef platter is eye catching and mouth watering. Soup bases had good umami and spice. A great selection of meats, veg, and starch. Prices felt on the high end, though worth it. DO NOT RECOMMEND: the fish filet was crunchy (not bone in fish, just the fish itself was crunchy) Service: 4/5 classic Asian restaurant service where they largely will ignore you until you ask for something. It meets my expectations! Ambiance: 4/5 Pretty clean. I liked the Asian music playing in the background. There is little leg room at the booths and I bumped my knees a few times, quite painfully.

Great quality, fast service, and overall delicious hot pot! Very authentic and I would definitely come again. The place is a bit hard to find, it's inside of the Pacific Rim building and is to the right after you enter. Street parking was relatively easy but they have a parking garage for the building, too.

Decided to try out Pipa Mountain Hot Pot inside Pacific Rim Center on floor 2. They have two-hour free parking in a pretty dead garage which is convenient, and they stay open really late. The hotpot here isn't AYCE, but the quality was definitely there. The Pork Bone Broth - absolutely amazing. Their Signature Szechuan Broth was also fantastic; I got the lowest spiciness level, and it was still quite spicy, true to Szechuan style. The slice beef were deliciously tender. They also have a sauce bar for $3 extra per person, which includes some surprisingly tasty cold appetizers. The sauces themselves were great - I especially liked the satay and black vinegar. An area of improvement would be the ventilation. The place smells great when you first walk in, but the air gets pretty thick and the smell will stick to your clothes. The staff were nice and friendly. I went on a Friday evening, and it wasn't super packed. We were seated right away, but they do take reservations if you want to be safe.

It took a while to find this place because the sign does not call it Pipa. For my boyfriend's birthday dinner, we went here to celebrate. The bill added up quickly, but there was good variety and everything seemed fresh. We ended up getting too many things and took tons of leftovers back. The combo veggies, mushrooms, and tofu was too much towards the end of the meal and coming back, we'll probably repeat 2/3 of the order. The Groupon going on makes it a great bargain. For those having any doubts about the sauce bar, I say get it! For $3, it has some really tasty side dishes. I could eat the fungus salad and drink the sweet dessert soups all day. Their birthday song is fire by the way. All the staff gathered around, waving a sign and everything. We got it stuck in our heads for a while after. And park on the 3rd floor. The sign is small but it's a free 2 hr parking.

This was one of the best hot pot experiences I've had in a long time. The presentation was great. You have to get the ring of meat for the gram. Free parking in Pacific Rim too which is hard to find in Chinatown. My family from out of town loved it. The soup bases were so flavorful that the sauce was truly optional. The spicy base, the tomato, and herbal base were all so good. I love that they provided us with aprons too The place was not that busy so service was so attentive. They topped off the soup bases and water multiple times. The sauce bar was amazing too. There was 12 different sauces and Chinese style dessert soups. We ordered a lot of stuff so we were not keeping great track of things but the reason for one less star is we realized after paying and leaving that we did not get two of the items. I am already planning my next trip here.

Went here for dinner on a weekday night. There was no line, and my party was seated right away. First thing I noticed when our food was served is that the table feels a bit small. There wasn't enough room to place what we ordered, and it wasn't a whole lot. The meat quality is great, although a bit pricey. The bone broth is really tasty which I loved. The sauce bar had a variety of sauces, but it doesn't have as many snacks as other hotpot places I've been to.

Amazing hot pot! Food was really high quality and staff was attentive and kind. We went on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. We got the hot pot beef combo and it was great! Plenty of food for two people and everything was delicious. Sauce bar was pretty good too. For dessert we got the fried buns which were so good and perfectly soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. Definitely want to come back to try their other food!

Great place for hot pot! Food is delicious and reasonably priced. They also have back rooms you can reserve for karaoke with a minimum spend. They have a wide selection of meat, veggies, seafood and noodles. They also have non-alcoholic drinks like lemon tea, coconut water and alcoholic drinks like beer and sake.

Alice W.

I was able to offset the cost by buying the Groupon online! Additionally, I found the quality of some ingredients to be inconsistent. The Crispy Chicken is juicy and tender on the inside. The seasoning is just right - savory with a hint of spice that adds a delightful kick without overpowering the natural taste of the chicken. And the portion size is generous, perfect for sharing with friends or indulging in a satisfying solo snack. The complementary fruits seemed to be of lower quality. The strawberries and grapes were not sweet at all. This inconsistency affected the overall dining experience and left me feeling disappointed. As for the Black Tea Lemonade, it's a refreshing and sophisticated twist on a classic drink. The bold, robust flavor of the black tea is perfectly complemented by the tangy sweetness of the lemonade, creating a harmonious balance that's both invigorating and thirst-quenching. I got it during happy hour for $2.5 after 9pm

Mid sized hot pot restaurant in the Pacific Rim Center on the east side of Seattle Chinatown/International District. The space they are in used to be Szechuan fish place. The building has parking which is free for 2 hrs. Bright, interior with red and orange tones on the walls and furnishing. All the tables have a deep set hotpot stove in the middle. Went during the weekend but in the afternoon between lunch and dinner, so no waits for a table. You order off a tablet. Menu has English and Chinese. You can order a pot with up to 3 different soup bases. Got the usual hot pot ingredients, plus some appetizers and skewers on the menu. They also have some 2 and 4 person hotpot combos. We got the two person combo, so got two soup bases, a ring of meat, a vegetable tray, some meat and shrimp balls and a serving of udon noodles. That was like $65. Also got a seafood platter for around $29 and a serving of beef tripe. We got the chicken and pork stomach soup base, and the tomato soup base, and both were pretty flavorful, with the tomato soup having a heavier flavor. The ring of meat looks nice around the hotpot. Got a combination of lamb and beef, and the lamb was not gamey at all. Seafood platter has 4 big scallops, 4 mussels, 4 oysters, 4 large shrimp, and some slices of crispy grass carp, so a good serving of seafood for the price. They do charge $2.99 per person for the sauce bar. Sauce bar is not that big, but has the usual sauces. Also has some fruits, some marinated chicken feet, and two kinds of sweet desert soup. The sweet soup with the white cloud ear fungi tasted nice after the heavy flavors of the hotpot. The chicken feet could be a little softer. Overall the food was good. We ate everything we ordered and it was lunch + dinner for the day. Was like $100+ before tips, so towards the pricier side.

The greatest game ON THE PLANET. Nothing comes close.

5 Stars. BIG Clarification. The food, sauce bar is a 3.5 Stars for me. Its good but not knockout. Hotpot style food is top 5 favorite food genre for me, but I prefer Shabu Shabu over chinese hotpot. I like my hotpot more pure and less busy with so much spice and herb etc. But thats just me. What they can improve on are the broths, we had the golden chicken and the signature spice. While I understand Chongqing and Szechuan is more spicy and oily, it was a bit too much for my taste, but thats the cuisine so its expected. Also, it was a bit salty, both broths. So please, a tad less salt or msg, and less oil would be greatly appreciated. Sauce bar was great (sorry no photos), beef and lamb were good, again, not knockout. The reason why I'm giving 5 stars are for Service. Every employee was just kind, or sweet, always cleaning away your dishes, making sure your experience was great. NOT in your face style, but "quietly" trying to take care of you, which I LOVE. IYKYK. The girl that seated us was also our main server and excellent chinese and english, I believe her name was "Xia?" She wasn't the manager but should be, or deserves a raise no doubt. So, Lao-Ban, if you're reading this, make sure "Xia" becomes manager and gets a raise, she knows how to treat customers and treats the business like its her own. All the other servers were helpful too, I can't say enough about this, helpful in a quiet way. Then theres the 2 KTV rooms. Ahhhhhhhhhhh, Hotpot, drinks, KTV, AND MAHJONG. Private rooms for you and your party. Nuff said, see the photos. Didn't test to see how current their playlists are however, so fyi. Lastly, the whole decor of the place. It TOTALLY reminded me of being back in Taiwan or Shanghai. I love restaurants that transport you away from your actual geography. Beautiful colors, beautiful art, even the way the bar is laid out, and the fridge with just glass bottles is SO ASIAN I LOVE IT. OH and while we were there the only music playing was Jay Chou??? My man! Loved it. Absolutely will be back, great to bring friends, family, out of towners to. The biggest negative is the parking garage, which is why we rarely go to that complex, its HELLA skech. And make sure to park on P3 where its for the restaurants.

I had lived in Beijing for 8 years and spoke pretty good mandarin for a 老外 so I ordered for us. Our waitress, one of two sisters who ran the place, I call her 陈大姐, said to me, Wow, you can speak Chinese! You must be very smart! I replied, You must be very smart. You can speak Chinese! At first she didn't know what to say but then laughed. It was the beginning of a lovely relationship. However since the pandemic we had not been back. Perhaps yesterday we were in the spirit of celebrating the Spring Festival. We decided to go there. What a great choice! 陈大姐 by coincidence was working. She retired years ago. (Her sister opened another 老四川 in Bellevue but unfortunately has since passed away.) 陈大姐 immediately recognized us. She remembered our son and other family members who often joined us there. It felt like old friends getting together again. Unfortunately my wife and I were the only ones in our little group. It's better to have more people so you can order more dishes. We only got 4 dishes, 宫保鱼, 椒盐虾,干煸四季豆, 夫妻肺片。Gong bao fish, salt and pepper shrimp, green beans and "husband and wife lung strips"! Actually that's a beef and tendon appetizer. Everything tasted just like we remember. Well, the fish dish was wetter than before but still tasty. Flavors are authentic but a little toned down from the Sichuan food in China and in a few other local restaurants. The main flavor of Sichuan cuisine is 麻辣 or spicy numbing. It's not really so hot as it is numbing. Your lips tingle. Most people who didn't grow up with this aren't big fans. Their 水煮肉 or 水煮鱼 comes pretty close though. Leftovers with either of those and leftover rice plus whatever make the very best 烩饭, huifan! Just boil it. We arrived there early and there were just a few other customers eating. And they left soon after. So it was just us and a steady stream of delivery drivers coming in to pick up food to go. I would consider ordering on line like that but this food doesn't hold up well over the distance to our home. Although the interior had been remodeled since our last visit, the decor is fairly stark. Combine that with the location in a strip mall on the corner of Jackson and 12th, which has seen better days, ambience isn't a real draw. However if what you want is a very good meal at reasonable prices then you should go to the Sichuanese Cuisine restaurant in Seattle. (I prefer it to the one in Bellevue.) Too bad you probably won't get to meet 陈大姐。Now that we know the food is still great, we will return.

Since it is a small establishment, I am a bit hesitant to give it three stars, but it was underwhelming compared to what I had expected after reading rave reviews. The inside was very welcoming to me; it was homey, giving similar vibes to my grandma's home/kitchen. There is very limited seating. FOOD: The food is definitely fresh and authentic, but I think I just prefer stronger, bolder flavors. The food here was very light and had a sort of healthy taste to it? Pan Fried Dumplings (3.5/5) - The fried dumpling skin had a nice texture to it, and the filling was juicy. It was okay; I didn't have strong feelings about it. Pork and Chive Dumplings with Hot and Spicy Sauce (3/5) - From the name, I was expecting a stronger flavor. The sauce was on a milder, vinegary side, so I was rather disappointed. Xiao Long Bao (4/5) - Juicy and came out piping hot (as reflected by the steam blurring my photos of it). Probably my favorite thing from what we ordered. Would've paired nicely with some ginger, but I forgot to ask if that was available. Szechuan Beef Noodle with Soup (3/5) - A cleaner, slightly herbal type of broth compared to what I am used to. SERVICE: The person helping us was nice. I don't know if they were having an off day, but it took a really long time for us to receive our food, despite it not being busy. The prices and portions here are really reasonable. Note that they only take cash or Venmo payments. TLDR// Being transparent, I found this place to be a bit underwhelming, but maybe I came in with too high of expectations. I would still recommend trying it to see if it's your cup of tea. It's always worth supporting local businesses.

Our go-to order is the beef and lamb platter, crab sticks, winter melon, potatoes, and their milk tea (which comes with free refills). The broth bases and ingredients are always absolutely flawless. However, instead of just reviewing the food today, I want to share some unique insights and perspectives from my background as a former restaurateur who used to own and operate a hot pot restaurant myself. The True History of Chongqing Hot Pot: Humble Beginnings In China, Chongqing hot pot was originally the ultimate food of the people. Back in the day, it was famously called "1-to-3" (1托3)--meaning meat dishes cost 3 RMB and veggies cost 1 RMB. Traditional Beijing mutton hot pot (Shuan Yang Rou) could never compete with that kind of price-to-performance ratio. True hot pot history spans only about a century. Chongqing hot pot originated with laborers working along the riverbanks. Because they couldn't afford premium cuts, they used various animal offal for dipping. Take Huanghou (黄喉 - Ox/Pork Aorta) for example: it is actually the main aorta of the animal. It requires meticulous, layer-by-layer peeling because only the middle layer is crunchy and edible. Similarly, while a cow has four stomachs, only the third stomach--the Omasum (牛百叶 - Beef Tripe)--is used for hot pot. All of these ingredients require intense, repetitive processing before they can ever hit the table. Why Hot Pot is Secretly an Exceptionally Healthy Food At its core, hot pot is a remarkably healthy way to eat. Nowadays, so many people suffer from cavities and tooth decay. When you boil it down, it stems from one major issue: eating too many carbohydrates. A Quick Evolutionary Detour: During the Paleolithic era, humans didn't eat rice or noodles because wheat and rice had not yet been domesticated. Once the Agricultural Revolution began, the proportion of carbs in the human diet spiked dramatically. When carbs enter the mouth, they break down into simple sugars. When these sugars meet oral microbes, they ferment into organic acids that attack our teeth. Human tooth enamel is incredibly strong--second in hardness only to diamonds--and under normal circumstances, it is designed to last a lifetime. Carbs destroy it. For example, Easter Island once had the highest cavity rate in the world; due to a lack of fresh water, locals relied on cassava and sugarcane juice. The massive amount of carbohydrates caused their teeth to rot starting at age 14, and by age 20, most had virtually no usable teeth left. I'm rambling a bit, but my point stands: because hot pot emphasizes fresh meats and vegetables over heavy carbs, it is inherently very healthy! The Science Behind the Flavor Another fascinating characteristic of Sichuan/Chongqing mala hot pot is the continuous simmering process. As the ingredients are repeatedly heated in the broth, the aromatic molecules are continuously re-released. Because of this chemical process, the longer it boils, the more fragrant and flavorful it becomes.
