What a delightful hidden gem in the small town of Battleground, IN. I visited the museum, then had lunch here. A warm welcome, patient wait staff, large portions, and very good prices. After a morning hike on the Wabash Heritage Trail, treat yourself to a good ole, hand breaded, pork tenderloin from T.C.s in nearby Battle Ground. The small town tavern is quaint and neat. On Monday, they were serving about a dozen tables. We ordered take out because we had our granddaughter with us. The clerks we're very friendly and quickly took our order. The tenderloin took about ten minutes to prepare. The tenderloin was huge, enough for two people to share. The sandwich came with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. It as piping hot, yet moist inside. The breading is light with a hint of corn meal. I would put it up among the best tenderloins that I've had in Indiana. There is plenty of parking...maybe 25 cars. TC's is a great small town restaurant that serves good, hot food and lots of it. We stopped here mid-afternoon on a Friday so the place was near empty. I didn't want to eat much so I ordered a catfish sandwich. It came with two catfish fingers in a large bun. The catfish was tender and moist. My companions ordered full meals. The ribeye and pork chop are enormous! Wow! A third diner ordered boneless country ribs. The plate was full of chunks of ribs slathered with BBQ sauce. The food took a while to be served, even with few tables occupied. The menu clearly states they will not sacrifice quality for fast service. So expect to wait and allow a little more time. The atmosphere is very divey in a good way. The walls are adorned with old sports photos from the long gone Battle Ground HS. I believe I will return soon. read more

They have a great selection of sandwiches as well as delicious ribeye steaks salads soups and appetizers. Pro Tip: make a reservation to guarantee a table as it is a small well loved establishment. Especially on Thursday night when they serve their Prime Rib and "Special Potato". I'm not going to tell you what the special potato is. Just trust me. You want it. And go early because they run out! My wife had a combo plate with 1 catfish, 1 jumbo shrimp and a serving of ribs, baked potato. This was a "small" combo and she took 1/2 home. I had a ribeye steak cut 1.5 inches thick and it covered .75 of my dinner plate and included a nice serving of sweet potato fries. My steak was wonderful at medium rare. Our party included 14 people and the service was friendly and courteous with prompt service and drink details. The restaurant decor was casual and what one would expect circa 1960. We stopped at TC Tavern by chance on a Thursday afternoon around 2. We were lost and my girls were hungry. My map apps were not wanting to provide any help. When we entered the staff were friendly and let us know to pick any seat. The waitress answered questions about the menu as she took our order. She was also nice enough to allow us to use the wifi as well as to give us clear directions that would get us back to 65. The food was delicious. My oldest ordered boneless wings, fries and cheese curds. A predictable meal for her and she enjoyed it saying the chicken was delicious. My youngest ordered the club sandwich and enjoyed it as well. I ordered a cheeseburger. It hit the spot it was served on an oversized bun and was packed with flavor. Should we ever happen to be in Battle Ground again we will make sure to stop for another meal. read more

First time here and am so glad we did. Steak was delicious. Wife and granddaughter has the catfish combo plate that included boneless ribs and shrimp. Catfish was cooked perfectly. Gumbo soup was soup of the day and they enjoyed the soup. Loved the rib-eye, potato and salad. T was our waitperson and she was great at recommending top picks. T was super friendly and professional. This place was very busy on a Saturday night. They take reservations. Large parking lot that was very full. Family dining on one side and full bar on the other side. Large screen TVs with sports. We stopped in to celebrate a birthday. We didn't tell them so they didn't do anything. But they did seat us quickly and started taking our drink orders. Don't let looks fool you, this place was great! We were greeted right as we walked in the door by our exceptional waitress. I ordered the HUGE breaded tenderloin and buffalo chips. The prices are great! My only comment would be the buffalo chips don't really have any "buffalo" flavor to them, but I still enjoyed them! This an unassuming mom and pop restaurant off the beaten path with lots of local atmosphere. High school memorabilia hangs on the wall from the owners, a local couple. We were there after a Purdue game and it was clear this was a "place to be" for those in the know (this place is not exactly close to the stadium). TC's is a "common ground" meeting place for folks of all kinds - we saw young hipster foodies and old-timer regulars; a group of guys kicking back with some beers and a girls-night-out birthday party in heels and high makeup; an alternative couple with tattoos and piercings, and a buttoned-down family with young kids. Everyone was just there to enjoy the food and the place. The best thing: These folks know how to season and cook a steak! We had the strip and the filet, each medium rare. The strip was miraculously medium rare from within a millimeter of the seared edge all the way through. Unbelievable. Maybe the best steak this seasoned steak eater has had any where, any time. The filet was super flavorful, also right to temperature. Not the most velvety I've ever had, but definitely the most flavorful. Also very much recommended: the sauteed mushrooms! The wine selection is limited but we found something we liked. Our one critique seems to be common around here where there is an apparent preference for corn-fed beef, which we struggle to understand as well-aged Western beef fans. I happened on this place totally by chance. I was lost and cruising the Indiana countryside on a trip back from Chicago. I hit this little country restaurant and bar about 4 PM on a weekday, with already 30 or 40 cars in the parking lot. More out of curiosity than hunger or thirst, I stopped in to see what the fuss was about. Before I knew it, I was watching these gargantuan meals come out of the kitchen from my barstool perch: huge steaks, massive cheeseburgers, even massive salads, accompanied by a LOT of smiles when the plates were laid down. I ordered a fried pork tenderloin sandwich, an Indiana state dish if there ever was one. What came out was a tenderloin the size of my plate (see photo). And my plate was a full dinner plate, which was completely covered by the Paul Bunyan-esque sandwich. Now that I'm reading the other reviews of TC's, it's clear that all their food is oversized, well-prepared and relatively inexpensive. By the time I left at 530, the place was jammed up, completely packed, and loaded with laughter and good conversation. I'm going back to this little gem of a throwback Indiana pub and restaurant on my next trip to Chicago, and I'll make sure to order a steak or a cheeseburger, which looked good, as did everything else. Almost didn't stop. Glad we did. Waitress was super friendly. Even gave us directions back to St Rd 52. Husband ordered the special prime rib sandwich, which was huge. Waitress did exaggerate the size, when she said it was a lot of food. Very good. I had catfish. Was happy with way it was prepared and tasted. Yes, this small town restaurant is PACKED on Thursday nights, which happens to be the only night prime rib is on the menu. The place was jam packed completely full and she was obviously overwhelmed. After arguing with her and seeing a couple table with ten and more seated at tables, she reluctantly set up a table for us. Still complaining about it and being argumentative, we ordered drinks upon which she demanded ids. I had iced tea !!! She was VERY RUDE and disrespectful . We go their and have for years with our friends at Valentine's Day. NOT ANYMORE !!!! She said she'd been there for over twenty years. How she lasted that long being employed is beyond me. Thanks to Yelp, we have found ourselves in yet ANOTHER amazingly delicious gastro experience! Nothing fancy but MY GOODNESS! the options are diverse and cover the likes at everyone at our table. For fun we tried the Wasabi Crab/Shrimp Balls. Although these are not made from scratch, they are DELICIOUS! WOW! These lunch options are FANTASTIC!!!! Everything has a fantastic flavor and the presentation is beautiful. Our server told us that the restaurant has been here for 30 years and is a local favorite...I CAN TOTALLY UNDERSTAND!!! What a wonderful place! First, we were really warmly greeted by our server. And that level of service just continued. There are clearly a lot of regulars, and t I can see why. One side is more of a bar, and the other side a restaurant, but they are both open and there are tables on both sides. Now for the food. This is a steak and sandwiches kind of place. I got the grilled cheese with buffalo chips and coleslaw. Oh those buffalo chips! I split them with hubs and they were delicious. I'd definitely get the grilled cheese again. Everyone else loved their food too, which ranged from chicken to steak with fries) and the cheese curds and onion rings were tasty and the perfect amount for 4 hungry adults and a picky teenager. I've been here twice and mostly on a Thursday nights cause that's when they do their Prime Rib dinner night!! Not too bad for the price and it comes out to be less than $20/person for the standard size when you order it! Be warn, I've only had it twice and I go with the bigger cut, but the 2nd time I went there, there was a lot of fat on my 2nd time when I ordered the larger cut meat which I didn't get much of meat, while I went there the first time, I got a solid large cut of nothing but PRIME meat!! So it really depends on how the day is going. Also, if you're coming in at a later time, like around 6-8PM, reservation is highly recommended, along with if you're bringing a large group. You won't be disappointed with the other meats that they have there! It's kind of cool cause you have a bar on one side of the section and a dinner section on the other side of this building. It reminds me of the old restaurants that I used to go a lot when I was a kid, where everyone who went there remembers you and have that whole family or comfort feeling to it! I've always gotten their fried zucchini and it's just perfect. Not a lot of the breading, it's evenly coated, and not too saturated in oil!! Wow! We were looking for a good local establishment, and we're delighted and surprised to find this spot in the quaint village of Battle Ground , Indiana. Highly recommend an early dinner before the crowd sets in, and reservations are a must.
