Interesting dining in one of the cool squares scattered about the tourist area in Amsterdam. Very unique setting adjacent to a cathedral. If you like people looking and dining with locals this will definitely work. Food was good and the beer marvelous. read more

Food, location AND service is a hard find in the middle of tourist central but this is the exception. Food is fantastic, great portions, fast and prompt service and location is wonderful. We were able to sit outside even on cold days with heated seats and fans. Service is multi-lingual, prompt and kind. This is a people watchers paradise! Smoking is allowed here in Amsterdam and very prevalent. It's unavoidable if sitting outside. Dont let that stop you if you can. read more

Great place right off of Dam Square. It was reasonably priced and the beer was cold and the food was great. The waiter was from South Africa and spent the time to tell us about Amsterdam, and was great! Was a little cool and rainy but the big umbrellas outside did a great job. Touristy cafe, but sometimes that's perfect if you're an actual tourist (like me), or want to feel like one. Quick, friendly service. They engaged us in English and Dutch (my friend spoke Dutch). Enjoyed a cappuccino outside and people watched. Heard an entertaining group cussing in English[1]. [1] I'm pretty sure they were actually angry with each other, but we left soon after. read more

The burger was delicious as well as the sweet potato fries. The beer selection was great and we enjoyed the entire meal. We sat outside and the view of the square was a perfect accompaniment to a perfect lunch . The server who took care of us was personable and quick and the order came out exactly as requested. Located in the center of the main square where tourists from all over the world flocks,walks,eat and takes tons of photos. We were seated inside because the outdoor seating is full and waiting time is another 15 minutes. The location is superb no wonder its a bit pricey in here,well money worth,looking at people ,dogs and kids running around a magnificent square while drinking your tea and eating something is such an experience. We took the transit coming here and as far as i remembered its foot transpo most of the day it was like 20k steps for lessthan 10 hours hahahaha. We had pop,coffee and tea with mint leaves,all of them served with a butter cookie i ate all of them since my cousin dislike cockies. We also ordered the trio sandwich that is served in style,it reminds me of high tea back here in Vancouver,we also ordered another sandwhich with some greens and endless slice of meat on it. Quality of foods were excellent well most foods in Amstrrdam is my first not the meat but the way they serve it and its name. Pop/soda in here i mean the whole europe comes in a cutest bottle that cant even relieve a small kid thirst...and what a rip-off they are expensive,same with bottle water... Theres TV,a free wifi and clean washroom,i seldom to never finds a washroom within the same level of the restaurant,its either on the basement or in another floor,this actually doesnt make sense to me...at all... As i said its a bit pricey in here,the ambiance and the view of the square adds to your bill hahahahhaa. Neat tourist place to eat,i loved this place,servicewise i dont have any complaint,the menu has an english sub so i dont think that is problem. Vegetarian friendly place and good for family,group and kids aswell(kids i dont see hotdog and fries and chicken nuggets so make sure you are ok with european kind of bread and cured meat and cheeses) For all adults hurray this is a full bar Dutch cafe.Beer cheese and wine is part of Netherlands culture...a beer and wine for breakfast... Huge place with outdoor seating,wheelchair access,im not sure if there is parking for patrons who drives,we took the transit and yesss the agony of walking. I saw some 1 star review and not very pleasant statements,thanks that we were not able to experienced all this during our visit. What a perfect little breakfast spot. Part of the main square in this area but a little tucked back so it's not too busy. We ordered the shakshuka, the pancake, the Brie sandwich (to go), and a couple of coffees. The service was prompt and polite, which was nice and the food was quite good! We sat outside under the umbrellas so we were able to enjoy being outdoors without dealing with the off and on rain. The food was delicious. The coffee, okay. The bees came out in force when our food was delivered, which was a bit of an annoyance but we got through it. The sandwich kept perfectly for lunch later on in the car. Definitely glad we stopped in for our last breakfast in Amsterdam. read more

Attention Americans! What a waste of a breakfast. I Would pay 18 euro's not to waste my last breakfast in Amsterdam at this cafe. Nothing was special, we waited a long time for toast and 2 slices of cheese and 2 slices of meat. The single egg that we ordered came 10 minutes after we finished eating. After a wonderful visit to the photo exhibit at the Nieuwkerk I wanted a bier. So I stopped in here for a small treat and a drink. After perusing the menu I decided have the French Onion Soup and a lovely bier. The view is spectacular looking out over the Dam and Palace front area. It's a great place to people watch as you relax and enjoy life. To my surprise the French Onion Soup was very good. Far better than I could have hoped for from such a touristy location. That and the bier made for a delightful little snack before I continued on my day of fun. I;ve been to a few other spots in the area by the Dam buy this one is much better than most. read more

Had some delicious apple pancakes at the New Cafe and the service was wonderful. Stopped by on the way to Anne Frank's house, and it was one of the few places that were open and ready for business long before the action of the square before it got in full swing. Once again, the manager and the server were very kind and helpful, and the pancakes were great! read more

I had a Brie sandwich and a coffee. It's a rainy day today. So this was a great place to just relax for a minute and have some food.

I have travelled far too much to know better than to try a cafe on the main square and expect a good experience. Perhaps it was the sunshine, perhaps it was my thirst, but I obviously had a lapse in concentration... While walking to the table, I smiled at a waiter and said "Hallo" in my best Dutch accent. I wasn't fooling anyone and he just turned and walked away. So, we showed ourselves to our own table and started looking through the one menu. Quick as a flash the unfriendly waiter appeared and said "you must order". Well, yes, but perhaps we could look at the menu first?! I asked for two large beers and two tap waters to start with while we looked through the lunch menu. "No, you have to pay for water. We don't give water out for free here." came the reply. Huh? I had ordered two beers and we were willing to spend approx €40 on lunch (I had spied the very steep prices), but they weren't willing to give us two glasses of tap water?! I can't tell you what the food was like there, we had had enough. We got up and left, with the waiter shrugging his shoulders as if WE had been the unreasonable ones! read more

Loved looking out at the people in the square while having an apple cider. It was quite lovely. Had a basket of bread, a BLT and cheese!! I thought it was a bit expensive but it had great staff! Wonderful experience. Try to get a table at the front watching the square! read more

We stayed right around the corner at the Swissotel during our recent stay in Amsterdam and breakfasted at this cafe 3 out of 8 mornings. Had very nice breakfast items each day, particularly the raisin and apple pancake - very good! We hadn't been sure how good the food would be given the touristy location, but the food was good, the service was acceptable, and the view was very entertaining. Would recommend for most days. read more
