What a fun little shop! My mom stumbled in thinking it was an ice cream shop and that worked in their favor since I ended up with two shirts, ha! My dad and nephew were in town and the staff was so welcoming and kind, it was enough of a reason to purchase. I got my nephew a really cute Dino shirt that had the Chicago skyline it. Well it turned out their equipment was "updating" or whatever that means and couldn't print white ink on a black t-shirt. Confession: I am a Foursquare addict. But one of my friends is 10x worse than me. She's even admitted to having a spreadsheet related to how she can obtain more Foursquare badges. Cute, right? When I ended up picking her for our Annual Grab Bag, I racked my brain trying to think about something cute and creative to get her. (Ya see, I wasn't going to give her the ear warmers she listed. That's just NOT a me gift.) It dawned on me that her love of Foursquare should be translated onto a shirt. And, per my experience a couple years ago, I knew that T-Shirt Deli would be the fabulous place to make it for me! Their easy-to-navigate website mentioned that you could upload your own design (in .jpg format) and it could be transferred onto a shirt. Sweetness. After some handy work on the ghetto 'Paint' application, my design was ready to go (AND cute, if I do say so myself!). I decided to go into the store rather than order online in case there was something with the design. Going into the store is actually a treat, so stop by if you get a chance! It stays true to the whole deli theme, as there are rolled up t-shirts (a la sandwiches and meat) encased behind deli glass. There's even a 'menu' on the wall in that old school deli style with prices for items. If you're looking for ideas, there are a ton of books with samples of past creations. AND if you're kinda stuck on what size to order OR what type of shirt to get, there are sample shirts on the wall, so that you can gauge whether or not the shirt will fit or not. Anyway, the employee who helped me had the shirt ready in 15 minutes! 15 minutes, ya'll! And the shirt was so effin' cute, I was kinda jealous that I didn't make one for myself. I had an image I'd found online and they helped me edit out the background (I have no Photoshop skills) so it would look like stenciled graffiti on the shirt. I digress) is the best store to have in your neighborhood if you are in a pinch. You can walk in, start being sassy (that would be me) and receive wonderful service and sass back. The two ladies helped us not just by creating shirts for us, that is the easy part. My friend and I walked in desperate for shirts, we were "hungry" for them and all we had was a Mac (love Macs and so does the T-Shirt Deli . .. I digress again) with a couple of files on them. Without a flash drive insight the future looked dim, but who swoops in to help, the very lovely woman behind the counter. She jumps onto my computer and sets me up to the company's wi-fi and setup Back to Mac (did I mention I love Macs) allowing us to deliver our jpg directly to their desktop. We received a call couple of hours later that our shirts were done. That's right SAME DAY emergency service. The T-Shirt Deli, it's like an emergency room for your t-shirt woes. The napkin has washing directions. That kind of packaging isn't necessary but it really makes the experience! Geek alert. (You are warned so don't give me a hard time please) One of my (baby) good friends was celebrating her 27th birthday. She feels old but she is really just silly (a must to be a friend of mine), gorgeous (I would kill for her hair), hard-working (doctorate student spreading the good ancient word across the world) and a bit geeky around the edges. She LOVES "Battlestar Gallactica". Kept talking to me about me until I gave in and watched the show. Named her computer hard-drive Caprica 6. Made of "So say we all" her personal moto. Morphed her boyfriend into a Lee Adama doppelganger. Wears a helmet to drive her car. You get the picture. So I thought that I could be geeky too and came up with this tee-shirt design idea: "Athena" (written in Greek, she is a classicist) followed by: "She is more than a toaster". I know. I jumped on a computer and created my order online. Since each letter is billed $1 I changed my initial plan and went with "Athena/ Toaster!". I know. I really appreciated the fact that they took their time to call me to clarify my order. They wanted to make sure that the weird Greek characters that I had inserted were what they were supposed to be and not some computer mishap. Great job guys. My order was ready in 24 hours, looked cute and geeky, came in their signature packaging (looooooooove it!!) and has me think about other possible customizations. My advice: stop by instead of shopping online. They have more options and a ton of ideas in case you dried out. And if tee-shirts ain't your thing, what about hoodies, bibs, onesies, underwear, aprons and caps?!? read more

Was hunting for last minute personalized post-wedding cheesy husband and wife shirts. (Don't judge.) I'm not creative, and it was four days before the wedding, so long story short they saved the day. This team is fast, competent, creative, helpful, all the things! It was stupid easy. Design was pulled together before my eyes in minutes. And the tees turned out so great - they managed to not make the tees over the top vom-cheesy like most matching marriage tops. If you think this or that other place has better prices, go there and leave this place alone. My wife found this store here on Yelp and told me she wanted a shirt just like the one Dante's fiance wore in Clerks II (but with our last name). She actually provided the shirt and T-Shirt Deli was able to apply the decals to the shirt. It was ready in about fifteen minutes even though the store was bustling. They pack the shirts ever so cleverly and my wife was absolutely thrilled. She had this huge smile on her face and couldn't stop looking at the shirt. It did cost a few bucks but with great customer service and some potato chips, T Shirt Deli to me is worth five stars. read more

I didn't expect to find this type of place in Bucktown, because it just screams TOURIST. However, i really like the vibe of the place--funny decals, nice selection of shirts, and friendly staff. They even have a Chuck Norris sign in there so I was able to joke with one of the t-shirt makers about how awesome Chuck Norris is because really it's the truth... The shirt was a bit expensive at $26 but since i love the slogan i got "More Cowbell" i think it's worth it. Also, i should mention that they use American Apparrel brand shirts so keep in mind they run sort of skimpy and shrink easily. I was not given a bag of chips, alas. read more

The options are slightly limited, only by the company's strict adherence to copyright laws (what's up with that?) but what T-Shirt Deli lacks in selection, they make up for in concept. This is a place where you can go to custom make a t-shirt. I didn't realize that. We had no 'needed' t-shirts and looked around for a couple minutes before realizing that we didn't need to spend anymore time there.
