UPDATE -- August 2026…read more Unfortunately, since writing my original review, our situation has become even more disappointing and financially and emotionally draining. Nearly three years after retaining this attorney and paying the full fee upfront, we are still dealing with the same fundamental concerns regarding communication, progress, and accountability. My husband has not received the meaningful progress we were led to believe we could expect when we initially retained this attorney. What makes this particularly heartbreaking is that my husband genuinely believed this attorney was going to help him. He held onto hope that his case would finally move forward and that there was a real possibility of coming home sooner. Watching that hope turn into years of waiting, uncertainty, and disappointment has taken a tremendous emotional toll on our family. I want to be very clear: I understand that no attorney can guarantee a particular result or guarantee when someone will be released. That is not what this review is about. My concern is the lack of communication, transparency, and progress we personally experienced after paying thousands of dollars for representation. After making repeated attempts to obtain answers and meaningful updates, we ultimately reached the point where we are now pursuing arbitration to try to recover the fees we paid. And unfortunately, that means I have had to pay an additional $450 arbitration filing fee simply to pursue the process of trying to recover our money. That has been extremely frustrating. We hired an attorney because we believed we were hiring someone to advocate for our family during one of the most important and difficult situations of our lives. Instead, nearly three years later, we are not only still dealing with the underlying situation--we are now having to spend additional money and energy trying to recover the money we already paid. I am updating this review because I genuinely do not want another family to experience what we have experienced. If you are considering hiring this attorney, I strongly encourage you to ask very specific questions before paying anything: What exactly will be done on the case? What has already been done? What is the expected timeline? How frequently will you receive updates? What happens if the representation does not progress as expected? And most importantly, get everything in writing. Any moral individual would do whatever was necessary to correct a problem that they caused, especially as it involved children. They scoffed at me, saying that they shouldn't charge me for them to fix it. To go through a divorce and not have lawyers who are concerned enough to get you through it, as opposed to just lining their pockets with your money, is an absolute travesty. This whole company is a scam, Michael is a snake oil salesman and a scammer, do not spend your money with this firm. As much as they are cheaper than most lawyers, there is a reason for that: they are not professional, have no sense of urgency, and their lack of care can cost you thousands of dollars and a lot more in your case. A horrid experience. They charged a ridiculous fee to not even complete the work. We paid over…read more$4000 (over 3 months) for a very amicable divorce (no assets, no disagreements, we just wanted it done). It felt like they dragged out the work so they could charge us more money. They then had issues with staffing and dropped us. Went to a different firm (documentpeople.net). We actually got to meet with the lawyers face-to-face. This new firm completed all of the work for less than 1/4 the price we paid Family First. It would have been even less ($300 less), but the new firm had to amend errors Family First made on the paperwork. If we had started with the second firm, it would have cost us $650 total. I can't imagine how much Family First would have charged if we had continued. So essentially, Family First took our money and wasted our time. Avoid this "firm" at all costs.
