We had an amazing time. I was hesitant to go after reading the other reviews but my daughter wanted to go for her birthday. I think the key difference may be an early reservation, ours was for 6:30 pm. I called a week ahead and made a reservation for six and asked who I was speaking with. I called to confirm the reservation the day before AND the day of with the same young lady. We were seated right away and were taken care of by several staff. There were only 3 other tables seated while we were there. When we left at 8:30 pm it was just starting to fill in. The drinks were fun and different, with the use of dry ice and the food was yummy but a bit pricey. But for a a birthday dinner, it was all more than worth it! The pasta cooked at the table, the bone marrow tacos and the salmon were our table favorite.

The atmosphere is like no other! Beautiful scenery and tons of places for photo ops! The food was delicious and a great variety of food! The server was very attentive and helpful the entire time! We loved every moment we were there! Definitely recommend it for any kind of special event!

The ambiance at Tabu is so beautiful, perfect for date night or even a cute place to grab brunch/lunch with the girls. We made a dinner reservation and we're seated at the "Jungle" & had a few cocktails. My favorite drink was the Itzae I definitely recommend. The shrimp aguachiles were also a must 10/10. My husband and I spilt a Ribeye which was tasty but a bit fatty but other than that we had a great experience! I even got to take home some of their cheese cake for dessert and it was the perfect night cap. We were so pleased to find this hidden gem in downtown Mcallen.

The service was horrible, reserved a table for 15 people and had to put a deposit down for just that and when we finally all got there we ordered shots because the waiter said the deposit would cover that so why not then we were about to order drinks when the waiter told us we had to buy a bottle to have this table and that wasn't even told to us when we called but we said okay let's do it, got the bottle and the waiter served us once and took off didn't see him for like 15 minutes later then he appeared and I had to chase him to order my drink and he was really rude about it got the drink which was great but when we ordered food he got it all wrong and 3 of us never got it also it took like 30 min and during all that wait we were also trying to order drinks and still waiting I finally got up to speak to a so called manager who doesn't speak English not a problem but he gave me an apology with a pretty picture that he was going to fix it and send us drinks okay we waited and nothing happened, we got frustrated asked for the bill and that also took forever to get...oh yes we got the bill and it was all wrong, they charged us for the 3 orders we never got and charged us for 12 shots that cost $216 and the bottle was $250 oh and on top of that they charged us $30 for the mixers of course I had to get up and try and fix all this but it was so bad I couldn't ruin my night anymore so it kinda got fixed and we paid oh and to eat at that table was so uncomfortable the ones who got their food had to eat of their laps yes that bad One waiter was so nice he tried to fix it but a little to late this restaurant was the worse place I've ever been too will not go back and I highly don't recommend this place The only good thing about it is that it looks so nice again service there is horrible and a rip off! Daniel was not our server btw he was the one who tried really hard to fix it all and felt bad for us.

My husband and I ordered the three cheese pasta and the center cut beef tenderloin. While the pasta was good, the real star was the steak. It was very well seasoned and so tender it practically melted in my mouth. The ambiance is very nice and romantic. They had great drinks. I will definitely go back. It is very pricey though. The wait staff was VERY attentive.

Oh my goodness. Everything was delicious. We started with the ceviche and ribeye aguachile at the recommendation of the manager. My husband had the seafood pasta and I got the Nigerian shrimp. Way too much food for just the two of us, but no regrets.

The place is nice and food is OK. its very loud and perfect for someone who wants to celebrate...they bring props and sparkling candles for any celebration you have and special things ok menu . it has that good party environment ... service can be improved overall ... but waiters do try to be nice. drinks are mainly water ... they are mainly for show lol but it's fun to watch read more

it was freezing the day of our reservation and we requested to be seated indoors and the hostess said absolutely not cause it's reserved for large parties only and we were only a party of 4.. so she sat us outside... the food and cocktail menu was limited because waiter kept coming back after we ordered something telling us they didn't have it because management failed to order what was needed to make certain drinks and entrées .. Extremely pricey salmon was overcooked and served with mashed potatoes and wilted asparagus which was unfortunately the only vegetable option.. I wanted to love this place but was honestly very disappointed with their poor service and negligence of charging accurately. I 100% understand this is a new restaurant and takes some time to become fully established; however, since it is on the pricy side, their staff and service also need to reflect that, because then it's honestly not worth it. Yes, it's trendy and instagrammable, but I don't see this restaurant being sustainable if they continue the way they are going. Respectfully, the hostesses aren't the most welcoming, almost look annoyed when they have to look for a table that we booked WEEKS in advance. Our waiter was not attentive to our table and even brought my friend lukewarm cocktail juice rather than the alcoholic beverage she ordered. They also charged us additional shots when we only ordered for our table of four; the shots were so overpriced to top it off. Lastly, the added gratuity charge was a ripoff considering the mediocre service. So yeah, expect an overbooked restaurant with overpriced drinks and terrible service. I hope they improve on this because I genuinely love seeing McAllen expand on their nightlife....this just was not it read more

We made a reservation for 8pm 2 weeks in advance for valentine weekend for 4 people. This location has an outside and indoor seating. We arrive and the hostess automatically sits us in the outside area. We informed her it was to cold, since we did have a reservation, if possible can we sit inside to enjoy our dinner. She stated if we sit inside it's a seating of only an hour to an hour and a half then we have to get up and leave. The outside area was unlimited time. When we made the reservation this was not advised at all. It was upsetting to have looked forward to this day to then be told we have limits. We ended up sitting inside in a table for 8-10 at 8:16pm, the hostess informed us that table was reserved at 9pm and indicated we would have to move by then. Mind you we still needed to order our food and eat, now feeling rushed. Around 8:45pm we were still eating and the hostess kept passing back and forth making us feel uncomfortable look'ing our way as in we needed to hurry up eat and move. She spoke to the waiter several times and looked our way, making us feel even more uncomfortable. As we started to finish the waiter was already picking up our plates before we could indicate, yes we were done. The couple we were with was having glasses of whiskey, a gentleman who looked like the manager approached them and asked what they were drinking, the couple informed them. The gentleman said "don't spend money on individual glasses, why don't you just buy a whole bottle it will save you money," the couple informed him, " well we seem to be sitting here on a time frame so buying a whole bottle won't work because we are going to have to move." The gentleman man said," no worries buy the bottle and you can stay here, no one will move you." When I heard him say that, I got more upset. One because I was being rushed and then he comes over and says we can stay if we buy a bottle. I understand it's a new business and they want to make their money, but not like this. We did not buy the bottle we asked for our checks and it was per couple, mind you we were only 4 people, the waiter took it upon himself and charged us gratuity, $20 on ours and $25 on the couple. A $45 tip for the 45min -1hr moment we were there. I thought gratuity was either 5 or more, 6 or more. The service was not $45 great, including the rest of the staff. This place is over priced and extremely small, no communication among the staff their either, everyone apparently makes their own rules. This place I was looking forward to enjoying a nice meal, staying enjoying the vibe they portray on social media, but it's all a hype. It's definitely not worth it. read more

It was a very inviting space. We had some craft brews while the employee spoke to us about the cigars they carry, a little history on the business and other cigar recommendations for our next visit. Over all we had a great time and I would absolutely recommend Havana House to anyone new to cigars or to those who know cigars and want a relaxing space to enjoy them in.

The place advertises that it specializes in home cooked comfort foods so we figured we'd have to see how their biscuits and gravy were. We ordered a 1/2 order and it came with a biscuit split in half and covered with gravy and sausage. The flavor was perfect - it definitely lived up to 'home cooked comfort food'. I ordered an omelette - three cheeses, sausage, bacon and ham with onions, cilantro and jalapeños - which came with refried (black) beans. The omelette was very good - flavorful and fresh. They actually use slices of cheese inside and on top - I've never had an omelette prepared that way but it was very good. When I first tasted the salsa I was not a fan - it was warm and had a different flavor - then I put it on the omelette and - great pairing and great flavor combo. The refried black beans were sadly underwhelming - no real flavor. I know they were homemade but they were missing the flavor that usually comes with refried beans (black or pinto) My wife had the quiche which had onions, peppers, sausage, mushrooms and cheese. It was very good. Even the crust was good. She ordered the breakfast potatoes as the side. The flavor of the potatoes was excellent. Half of them were lightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside which were great; the other half were overcooked and became potato chips - good flavor but not a breakfast potato. We will definitely come back to try their lunch food and dessert (we were too full today). They have a good variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner items on the menu so there is something for everyone. We were glad we stopped in.

It was a very healthy portion and filled me up. Even the veggies it comes with are properly seasoned and cooked. The tea is wonderful, they do offer flavored teas but I did not try that. TLDR: great establishment, give them a try.

I recently hosted my company's holiday party at this venue, and overall, it was a positive experience. Javier was accommodating throughout the planning process, allowing me to tailor the event to our preferences. The atmosphere was lively, and the drinks were plentiful. However, I can't give a full five stars because the DJ didn't show up, and the desserts I had requested were not provided. For appetizers, we started with the shrimp tacos and ribeye chicharrón. The tacos were heavenly- thick shrimp topped with a creamy, spicy chipotle mayo and crunchy purple cabbage. The ribeye chicharrón was also great; however, the tortillas were hidden in a napkin, which we weren't aware of, leaving us to eat the essentially just guacamole with chicharrón by the spoonful. I had the lobster cream soup, which was creamy, spicy, and generously filled with lobster--another excellent seafood dish. My team agreed that when we visit McAllen, we'll return just for the tacos and soup! They were indescribably good. For the main course, we had ribeye with bravas potatoes. I was looking forward to the bravas potatoes; however, they ended up being just potatoes with a drizzle of spicy mayo, lacking the traditional spicy tomato-based sauce. The steak was commendable, especially considering the large quantity prepared simultaneously. The drinks were outstanding, particularly for the price. Although I rarely drink, the Kabah and Dayami cocktails were perfect--not too sweet but smooth and enjoyable. While there were a few hiccups, the excellent appetizers, soup, and drinks made the event enjoyable. With some improvements, this venue has great potential. read more

The McAllen scene has a very nice new addition to it repertoire of fine dining and night life! This place makes a great first impression with its valet parking and through the "pasta show." The food is rich in flavor and the presentation of the plates is top notch. While having dinner, music was upbeat and the staff was excellent (Thinking of doing my next birthday dinner here). Once done, we spent the rest of the evening in their outdoor dining area at the bar with Rocio, our bartender. Fantastic cocktails needless to say. Great spots throughout the place for the obligatory selfies and the atmosphere is everything from a fine dinner to a night out celebrating any occasion that comes to mind. First time here and I'm in love. The servers were friendly, always attentive, making sure we were doing good. The food was delicious, we order different foods and I tried most of them and they didn't disappoint. My favorite drink was the Agua Santa, highly recommended. Prices were reasonable. Sorry, I didn't get a chance to do this review sooner. I hear the place is now undergoing renovations. Tabu Bistro is probably one of the coolest restaurants in the Valley. Overall, the best restaurant in the valley! The service, the environment, entertainment overall amazing experience. There is nothing like it. I definitely recommend their empanadas as an appetizer and don tabu as the entree. Don't get me started on the deserts, I personally love their carrot cake. 10/10 restaurant! read more

From the moment we entered--Service-bad ass. Ángel Morales and Jesus Rivera were always taking care of us. The environment-nice DJ music, lighting relaxed, clean, set up glamorous, restrooms clean. The atmosphere is a party like atmosphere and the staff is great. If you don't mind noise inside is where you wanna be if you want it a little more quiet then outdoors is your place. The food is amazing as are the drinks!! My new go to place for sure!! read more
