The Grove Farmhouse was a spontaneous choice for my dinner Saturday night after Church. It's quite new place only been open for about 5 months. You know I like my chicken fried and I'm always up for a good Chicken Fried Steak the entrée was very delicious It's made with Angus steak. My sides were green beans with bacon (Southern) style and mash potatoes with brown gravy. My Chicken Fried Steak was with white gravy and a side of Texas toast. For dessert I tried a piece of the banana bread which was very tasty. Only suggestion maybe consider adding some appetizers to your menu for starters? I was kind of hungry after my meal which is a good thing. I will definitely eat at this new restaurant again in the future. Check them out for lunch, brunch and dinner support new local business in the valley to help keep these spots open for business for everyone in the RGV. A+++++110%

Visited Monterrey Cafe for lunch. Restaurant has a nice traditional look and feel. Ordered the…read moreTampiquena plate. I requested beef fajitas, two cheddar cheese enchiladas, a crispy corn taco with ground beef filling. The plate included rice and beans, guacamole and a choice of tortillas. I asked for flour. When my plate arrived the food looked hot, tasty and freshly made. After giving everything on my plate a try, here is my subjective assessment of the meal. Again, this was my only visit so I didn't try anything else. Service: 5 out 5, servers were friendly, helpful and attentive. You can tell they take pride in their jobs. They all wore matching black T-shirts. They refilled my drink and stopped by to ask if I needed anything else. Atmosphere: 5 out 5, not fancy but who cares. It was clean, comfortable and inviting. It feels like it's been there since 1972. Food: 3 out 5, although the items on my plate looked fresh and tasty, I felt only two items really stood out. The crispy taco was the best item on my plate. It was crunchy and delicious. The flour tortillas were freshly made and delicious. However, the beef fajitas were bland and chewy. The cheese enchiladas seriously lacked flavor. The cheese filling and enchilada sauce could and should have been better. The rice and refied beans were flavorless. Overall, the flavors were muted and I would say needed more seasoning. I wanted to give it a higher rating. I may try going again in the future but I'll order something different. They serve breakfast too.

Ok so, this has officially become my new favorite go to in when I'm working in Weslaco. I've been…read morecoming to eat here at least once a week since I 1st tried it. Today, I came for breakfast AND lunch. It's obviously a local favorite as both breakfast & lunch get busy quickly & I keep seeing familiar faces... I guess I'm becoming a regular too ! It's an older building/establishment but, don't let exterior/interior appearances fool you, they are clean! My co-workers who've been nearby for more than 10 yrs had never been because of that & now they all love it! I'd rather keep it that way to keep it's character & not drive up prices. As I said before, it's a small mom & pop restaurant and if you love & appreciate authentic Mexican home-made food...THIS IS IT! Their chicken mole is my favorite (not sweet), the best I've had other than my Grandma's (only served Thursdays). Great salsa, homemade tortillas & sweet tea. They also have American & seafood which are just as delicious. Breakfast is served all day. The owner & staff are very friendly & helpful. The food is fresh, well served, comes out very quickly & at VERY affordable prices! Lunch specials are only $5.25 (regular plates are no more than $10 except for botanas/sombreros which are also well priced)! Beats fast food combo prices & definitely much more satisfying! I would certainly eat here everyday if I could! *Tip: not open for dinner (I think they close around 3:00 pm but, you can call to find out).
