I can't believe it took me this long to write a review considering this is my go to spot when it comes to heading on a date. I've been coming here for years and have thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, music, fireplace, fish tank, food, martinis, couches, pillows, Buddah sculptures, bathroom, you name it. Guaranteed love connection and a follow up phone call after this place (mostly based on the fact that it's pitch black in here) so don't kill it on date #2 by going somewhere else. I wonder what happened to the European belly dancers who really made their flat muscular abs ripple? If you are on a date with someone extremely ugly, THIS is the place for you, its so dark inside that you can't see anything, including who you are with, the drinks are pretty strong so any possible shadow of the fugly date can be photoshopped with the power of alcohol. For a Brooklyn hole in the wall lounge this place is overpriced... The Sushi isn't bad, but def not good enough to pay $15 per roll for. Service is not too great, considering u can't see the waitress to call her over. Also they have a bit of an attitude when serving you, which leads me to a question of, who's paying who $$ for being there?? Anyway my suggestion is go somewhere else, take a ride to Williamsburg or something, but if you do end up at this joint, bring a flashlight, that might make it a tad easier not to fall. read more

Tabu is by far my favorite hookah place. Its cozy, fun & delicious. I often find myself thinking about the amazing sushi rolls, I've had here, for days after.The martini varieties are limitless, seriously! Apricot, Cherry, Lemon, Lychee, Blackberry, Melon, Guava, Espresso, Strawberry! They are all amazing! Even the standard dirty martini is one of the best I've ever had. Be prepared to spend $100 a person - this place is def not cheap, but worth it. read more

My experience was great! I came with three other friends, and we were able to get the little den room all the way in the back. We had a really such a great time tucked away from everyone in our own little cove. I really don't think I would have enjoyed sitting on the ottomans up on the main floor. The tables and little ottoman type seats they seemed so on top of each other and looked a little uncomfortable. I liked the fishtanks on the wall walking to the back. Our drinks were yummy and our waitress was pleasant. This was the first time I've ever tried hookah, and I actually liked it. Oh Tabu, what can I say, we have been friends for a very long time :) I grew up in Bensonhurst, so Hookah lounges were at the top of our entertainment list for the weekend. Tabu offers a cozy vibe, dimmed lighting and sunken sofas. For many patrons it has become a prominent first date location. What puts Tabu above other hookah locations, is hands down their sushi. I would often pass on the actual sushi restaurant and come here to dine instead. Of course you will also find your standard hookah selection with a variety of flavor options and a solid cocktail list to go with it. Since I moved out of the neighborhood don't go here as much anymore. However my recent visit was a very pleasant blast from the past. I was originally going to give this place a one or two, mainly because one waitress has such snarky attitude, and the private room was overwhelmingly hot, so me and my guests moved to a regular table, which the waitresses did not mind at all. I love this place - one complaint.. really $20 for a hookah on water and $35 for one on milk? Where are you buying your milk that it's so expensive?! Otherwise the atmosphere is everything you could want in a hookah place - background music, pretty dark, I love the relaxing fish tank. The music is just right so you can hear it but can still have a conversation. the place tries hard to be a city-style hippy location: serves hookah, exotic sushi, plays Buddha Bar style music, and makes waitresses wear long skirts. The waitresses are the regular, no-customer-service-friendly attitude type. I also love the guy who sits at the front supposedly checking IDs, but really spends most time sleeping (did not bother to check mine). Oh the last straw - the prices! Too high! Dear people it is not about overpriced drinks. They just put one price in the menu and then charge you another price. They are saying that they use Absolute vodka for cocktails and then using some cheap vodka to make you drunk. It's dark and relaxing there. I'm not a big fan of sushi they make there it's either spicy or crunchy. I go there sometimes to have a drink with some appetizers and smoke hookah cz they are open till 4am. They have nice decor, good background music and 2 fire places. Cons: everything is overpriced, tables are too close to each other so if you wanna sit on the couch together and somebody else is at the next table, be prepared that person's ass will be right next to yours. The decoration is great its a hidden spot. Super dark at night, perfect for a date or intimate atmosphere. I tried only the passion fruit martini and it was really good, tangy but its ok I hate sweet drinks. But here is the issue, the server a russian girl who barely spoke English was extremely rude. My friend took out a chocolate (which they dont sell obviously) and she told him he could not eat it there. Fine, he put it back inside the plastic bag. She came back again and said "remove it, you cant have it here". So where was he supposed to put the chocolate? Doesn't she knows men dont usually carry purses? Then, we asked for a replacement charcoal for our hookah and she said it is $2.00. I have never ever seen a hookah bar that charges to replace the charcoal. She gave us a horrible attitude all night, and at the end the tip was included in our bill and it was like 20%. So undeserved. We were very angry with the service. Even though the place is cool, and their products are good, the service makes me never want to come back. read more

I have to admit I've been there a while ago. They had great sushi and good drinks. I love the atmosphere and the decor. However, we had a problem with a watress, who pretended she did not hear us even though we were nice and then all of a sudden decided not to serve us i guess keeping in mind that the guy i was with did not give her an extra tip last time we were there besides the one that was already included in the bill.
