Short version: Poor customer service and online ordering system needs a serious upgrade. On July 4th, I placed an order for several Daiwa SP minnows and some other miscellaneous terminal tackle for an upcoming trip. All of the items I ordered were listed on the website as being in stock and I specified two day delivery at additional expense. I received an emailed order confirmation. When I did not receive the items by the following Monday, I checked the order status through my account and saw that the order was still pending. On Tuesday morning, I called to check on the order. I got the answer system, advising me that all reps were busy. I opted to leave my number for a call back. When no one had called in over two hours, I called again. Once again, automated answering service only this time I remained on hold. After almost 30 minutes on hold, I hung up. About an hour later, I called back and chose the option to make a purchase. Amazingly, someone actually answered the phone this time. I gave the lady my order and she looked it up in their system. She told me that the items I had ordered were not in stock and they had to order them. I told her that all items were listed as in stock at the time I ordered them and as I needed them by Thursday for a trip to just cancel the order. She then told me that they had just upgraded their computer system and asked me to hold so she could check something. After being on hold for about 5 minutes, she returned and told me she had checked the warehouse and my items were in stock and that they would ship that day and that she would expedite the order. I told her once again that I needed them by Thursday and she assured me that I would have them. On Wednesday night, I once again checked my account for tracking information and saw that the order still showed as pending. On Thursday morning, I called and after three calls was finally able to talk to a rep. Ryan told me that the items were not in stock. I explained all of the preceding information to Ryan. Ryan put me on hold and upon returning, told me that the items had been direct shipped from the manufacturer. He was unable to provide a tracking number and stated it was unlikely that I would receive the order in time for my trip as had been previously stated. At this point I cancelled the order. For what it's worth, Ryan was polite and professional. Although a long time customer of TackleDirect, I think I'll look elsewhere for future purchases. read more

It takes FOREVER to get your stuff, months even. It's only fishing rigs, sabikis'. They said they were in stock when I ordered them.

I've ordered online and have always been impressed with the speed and accuracy. When I first went to the Tackle Direct store I was blown away! In fact I've made sure I stop in frequently just to find the latest and greatest tackle. The best part is the friendly staff, they are extremely knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Ordered two shirts from them on October 13 that supposedly were in stock. It is now November 6 and I only have one of the two shirts. They shipped one shirt ( which came in a reasonable time frame) and the other didn't arrive. There was no notification it was back ordered. No call. No email, nothing... I called to find out what happened and they informed me it was back ordered. On this initial call they told me they couldn' t tell me when I would get it but they would check into it. Since then I have called 4 more times. On the last call I told them that I needed the shirt for an upcoming trip and if they couldn't get it to me by they end of this week ( week of November 4 ) then I would cancel the order. They told me that the shirt was coming in on Monday November 4 of this week and they would send it out with a one day shipment. It is now Wednesday ( November 6) and still no shirt. I called again and was informed that the shirt was now in stock but that for some unknown reason they still had not shipped it to me. I was told that they would ship the shirt out today and I should get it tomorrow. We shall see..... Obviously, from my experience and the reviews of others, it is quite apparent that something is very broken with their order processing system. I would not recommend ordering anything from them until you see an uptick in their reviews, especially if you need the item in a reasonably short time. read more

I've received my xratuf deck boot and ended up having to warranty them due to hairline crack in the soul of the boot that would allow moisture and make my feet wet. they did not have the color that I wanted so now I have to deal with s*** brown and tan. I placed an order on 7/3/19 in the early hours of the morning. After the fact, I realized I had forgotten an item I needed. I waited until the store opened and called to add the item to my order. (Literally 2 hours later) After speaking with a rep I was told that while my order had not yet shipped, or even been pulled for that matter, he could not add to the order. I then cancelled the order and said I would place a new order with everything from the old order plus what I had forgotten. No biggie. My fault since I forgot some stuff right? I was told I would be issued a refund for the original order, which would take a few days to hit my bank. I mean the order was only $111 so I could wait a few days for a refund. I then placed the new order. Mind you, this was within 10 minutes of cancelling the original order. I was charged on my credit card and the order went in. $134 with the addition of the items I forgot. That included $26 shipping since I opted for 2-day service, (Which seems REALLY pricey for hooks, leader crimps, and some egg weights being shipped from NJ to NY, just across the river 60 miles away, I mean, USPS Priority would have been like $8 and they deliver on Saturdays) and while I understood the next day was Independence Day, I figured it would go out Friday the 5th at the latest. Even though, as per their website. "All In Stock Orders Placed Before 2 PM EST Ship SAME DAY!" When I called back the store to verify they received my order and inquire as to when it would ship, I was told not until Monday but Tuesday at the latest. When I told the rep I had opted for 2-Day service he said I would be refunded the $26, but I would still get the 2-Day service when the order went out on Monday/Tuesday. When Wednesday the 10th came about, I contacted the store AGAIN and inquired as to my order, and according to the rep my order had NOT been shipped. Nor had the $26 shipping been refunded at this point. Then the rep told me many of the items on my order were NOT in stock (even though their website claimed to have a large quantity of the items in stock when I originally placed the order). I then cancelled THIS order and demanded a full refund for this order as well. Moreover, since I had the rep on the phone I also inquired as to my original refund and I was told it had been taken care of. As of 5 AM Friday 7/12, I had not yet received my original refund OR the second refund for the second order. I contacted the store AGAIN...! and spoke to a man named Tyler to VERIFY my original refund AND the NEW refund were issued. He informed me that NEITHER of them was! Waiting 9 days for a refund is unacceptable! Granted, this is not some HUGE monetary amount... $111 for the first order and $134 for the second, but 9 days! That is absolutely ridiculous! Probably 15 days by the time I actually receive the credit to my account! If I receive them at all!! To which I will have to get the NJ BBB and my bank involved! Needless to say... The customer service here is absolutely horrible!!!! I only wish I could give Zero Stars.! Also, as a side note, their website order tracking system DOES NOT WORK and if you press 2 to inquire about an "existing order" from their automated phone system, you sit on hold for-EVER!!! I mean, three calls to customer service using that option and nobody EVER picked up the phone. EVER!!! I sat on hold for over an hour-and-a-half on one occasion before I finally hung up. I called back immediately and used option 1, "Place an order" and BOOM! within 5 minutes somebody answered. NICE JOB GUYS! Real classy move... And what is their BIG excuse for all of this... "We are updating our computers". My advice, go to "Oceans East Bait and Tackle" in Nag's Head NC or Virginia Beach VA. When I called the Nag's Head store they answered in 3 rings. When I told them what I needed, the guy went and CHECKED to make sure the items were in stock, and if they weren't he was able to recommend suitable substitutes. Then the gentleman told me some of the items I needed were not in stock in the Nags Head location, but they were available from their Virginia Beach location, but other items were only available from the Nags Head store. And while he easily could have called the VB location to ask them to ship those items separately from there, the guy actually DROVE to the Virginia Beach location with the Nag's Head stuff to fulfil my order that afternoon so everything would ship in one shot...! That's a 2 hour drive one way! The gentleman even texted me a picture of the shipping label with the tracking number THE SAME DAY! I placed THAT order yesterday, the 11th and USPS Tracking says I will have it on Monday the 15th! THAT'S Customer Service...!!! Oh... And the shipping cost from Virginia Beach VA to Garrison NY via USPS 3 Day Priority... $8.00...! Meanwhile, I am STILL waiting on my refunds from TackleDirect. Bottom line... Shop somewhere else... This place has NO CLUE how to give good customer service!!! read more

This place is horrible!!!!! I ordered an expensive reel and they sent a left handed reel. I have been trying every day for two weeks to contact them by phone, chat and email. No one will answer the calls, call back, or answer emails. I am so aggravated with these people and I have spent a lot of money with them. I will NEVER EVER buy anything from them again. TackleDirect - Big Texas King... - Outdoor Gear Near Me - Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey

This is a 10' surf rod that was in two sections. However, the rod is not in two 5" sections, it is in a 3' section (grip/reel) and a 7' section (eyes). When you attempt to break the pole down for transit, the line on the reel starts to unravel because there are no eyes on the shorter section to keep the line pulled forward. Once the rod is separated into its two parts keeping the shock leader line from coming off requires extra hassle. You will need to wrap the spool with a rubber band or Velcro strip to prevent the line from slipping from the reel, which then leaves a lot of extra loose line on the pole to get tangled as you try to grab the two pole ends and the line and secure the poles together. After several trips, the pole has been retired. read more

Be careful ordering from them after covid. They will take your order and then go dark on you. I have called several times and emailed as they state this is their preferred method of communication during covid. I have never received a response from anyone. I have tried email online chat and every other method they allow. It seems they will just take any online order they can regardless of their ability to fill the order. FORMER EMPLOYEE!! I recently worked for the company and I have to say I really enjoyed my job. I was there for one and a half months and on one occasion I made a mistake and left some of the product out and I was told by the boss Jerry at that time that he didn't do warnings and he wrote me up. At that time I understood I needed to own up for my mistake and it was an honest mistake and I worked really hard moving forward and corrected myself. My daily quota was 7 carts a day and we were told that 4 was what we needed to meet. I felt very comfortable asking for help in this job and made sure I did so often. I also received a lot of praise from Jerry and Lindsey, one of the managers. On one occasion Lindsey did confront me about calling for lunch on my cell phone on the floor and used inappropriate language when she addressed me. I honestly did not realize this was something we were not supposed to do I had seen other people doing it and that's why I thought it was OK. I was a little thrown off by her language but she did apologize and she noted how well I have been doing and told me I was most likely eligible to keep the extra pay we had been making from COVID permanently. However I later on made a mistake and left a post it note in the package and did not correctly hold the missing product from the order and I was fired strictly over human error. I honestly felt like they were mistakes and I had been doing a great job and I took a lot of pride in my job. Both Jerry and Lindsey made me feel like I was stealing from the company rather than someone making a human error. Do not work with managers that would handle a situation in such a manner. I placed my order in Aug and was told there was a two week lead time. I called a month later and was told that it was shipping from the vendor to them and then they would ship it to me and that I should have it by the end of September, which was when I needed it. I left for vacation, without the line I needed and had to make do with something else. I called when I returned from vacation and was infringed that it was shipping from the vendor and when they received it they would ship it to me. I finally received my order the middle of October. Placed an order for 4 items on July 1. I placed the order on line after check with a sales associate. They charged it out to my credit card. The reel was a sale item. In fact the sale ran at least another 5 days. When the order kept reading pending on my account after 12 days I first tried to contact them by email. Then called twice on the line to check orders. No return call. After 36 hours called on the line to make new purchases. Call picked up in under 2 minutes. Found out they had run out of the reel. I find this inappropriate on multiple levels, as it was continued to advertised by email and their website, I was never contacted. Debated doing four stars due to a product back order but in hindsight it was difficult to find anywhere and they got it here faster than the expected date. The selection is the biggest online that I have seen and they have it organized well. I ordered deep water metal jigs which arrived about two weeks after order confirmation. I've emailed customer service several times without any help whatsoever. The phones are not being answered. This is the absolute worst customer service I've ever encountered.
