After buying and returning a defective surfboard from amazon, I decided it would be best to buy my first board from a local shop where I could make sure I was buying the right board for me. When I walked in I let the staff know I had never surfed before but was wanting to learn. The man walked around the store with me to show me all my options and gave some recommendations before letting me look on my own. Once I picked a board out they put the fins on for me right there and had me pick out a leash (separate purchase) and attached it for me in the store. With my purchase they also provided a little bag with wax, stickers, and a key for the fins in case I needed any of it. I ended up spending much more than the board I returned to amazon. However, for everything I bought, I believe it was reasonably priced. I am grateful this happened, as I now feel secure knowing I will be learning on a board that is best for me. Not to mention the fact that this board is so much prettier too! Throughout my whole experience at Surfers Supplies, everyone who helped me was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The staff worked as a team and made sure every customer left with what they needed, without acting like "salesman". I would definitely recommend Surfers Supplies for any of your surfing necessities. First off, I'm not a surfer. I wish I was, but my body's miserable sense of balance does not want to cooperate. That said, this place is great. This is not a poseur "surf shop" stocked with hundreds of tee-shirts and five of last year's boards. This is owned and run by serious surfers who don't give you the oh-so-cool-and-pretentious attitude. This is the best place to get a board repaired in all of Jersey. They do a beautiful job for a very decent price, and treat you like a human and call you right when it's done. I can't say enough good things about these guys. When I am pondering skipping work and hitting the waves, I call Greg and ask him how it's breaking at 5th St, Corson's Inlet, and the other spots in town. He tells me if it's worth the drive. Been coming here for years - clothing & board shorts for myself, husband and kids. More recently, surf gear for my 13 year old. Super knowledgable - these guys will not steer you wrong. Buckled board. Brought it to several shops near me in Monmouth County and they wouldn't touch it. Brought it to the best at SS and it was no problem. Such a solid place, every time I've ever been to Ocean City, I have to stop in there. I love that it's set aside from the fanfare of the boardwalks and family shops on it's own. The workers all know their stuff and also give solid information on the local breaks. They always have the surf cams running too. Great stock of gear and boards and a diverse selection of clothes as well. I've never felt disrespected or hassled in there and I love that you can let yourself into the dressing area without any fuss. Best surf shop in jersey. Super knowledgeable employees and greg and Andrew are just the best and nicest guys. This is not a super commercialized surf shop which is what makes it so great. They do quality ding repairs, and would never sell anyone a board that they couldn't ride just to make some money off them. Absolutely one of the best places in Ocean City. A core group of guys holding it down and making you feel like you are welcome. As I get older my boards get longer. I went window shopping for a longboard as I wanted something to paddle and just goof off in during the summer slop. I have used another 'trendy' surf shop on the island for years and it was always kind of like shopping at Wal-Mart. I got what I needed but never really had great customer service. More or less it was dealing with teenaged sales staff that had no desire to be there. So I figured I'd browse around Surfer Supplies for a bit. I was greeted by who I assume was an owner. He took the time to listen to what I wanted and showed me around a few boards. Even took the time to pull them out so I could look at them. Was never pushy or didn't try to up sell me. Any way between him showing me what was in my budget and his friendly service I decided to buy it now. I have 5 boys and this place just earned all my bussiness!! read more
