Love the food here. Best place to get Mexican in the area. My husband and I love the illegales tacos. It's almost a construct your own taco. You get carne asada, grilled with onions and cheese, tortillas and a grilled whole jalapeño pepper. We also enjoy the chicken flautas and pork tamales. I don't think we've ever been disappointed by something we've ordered. We love the food so much, we catered a small family party and everyone loved the food. We needed to feed 25 people, 20 of those being adults. Not only was everything affordable, we had plenty of leftovers. read more

The strip mall it's in is not the most attractive but boy their food is great. Not just good, it's great. I'm not sure what they season their meat with but all kinds are good. I will say I wish their Guac had a little more kick but that can be managed with the wonderful salsa selection they provide. This is a very authentic mexican restaurant experience and the management/service tends to be consistently good. It is not the nicest inside and the bathroom is as would be expected in this strip mall but I still give 5 stars based on service/food/prices. Great stop and worth going to. read more

I just had them cater my husbands 40th birthday this past weekend and they were WONDERFUL. I ordered 80 tacos, chip and salsa and guacamole. The food was EXCELLENT. They were extremely nice on the phone when I placed the order and they gave us 32 oz containers of the different type of salsas for free to go with the tacos. I can't recommend this place enough. Best Mexican food in Island Lake!

I can't believe no one has reviewed this place yet!!! This is one of those hole in the wall places that you can't help but keep going back to. The people that work there are friendly, the food is good, and the salsa is out of this WORLD! Seriously! We bring in jars for them to fill up for us and take it to relatives because they always ask us to bring some salsa whenever we see them. We joke that they must put crack in it because 10 mins after you put it away you're back eating it again! LOL I recently took it to a family dinner and everyone kept telling the next person who arrived that they just HAD to try the salsa! :-) Too funny! The cochinita pivil is awesome here! Not something you find on all menus at local establishments and it's always available at Armando's. That's another thing, it's Armando's Taco and Burrito Express. :-) Not to be confused with Raul's Taco & Burrito Express in Wauconda. If you're in the area, give it a try. Ordered a meal to go double beans no rice got home it was double rice no beans. I know mistakes happen but it's a basic thing. When I walked in there were 5 woman sitting around talking and they acted like I was bothering them by being there. The girl who took my order obviously wasn't even listening. I came to this restaurant to support local. I have been here a few times for Sopes. I picked up my order on my way to an event. I live in the community. When I got to the event, multiple things out of the order were missing. I left the event to pick up the missing items and asked her to refire another component of the meal so that it was fresh. They refused no consolation nothing for messing up the order. I said because of the experience; I will be leaving a review; she stated that we are not her customer so who cares. Well here is the review. When you mess up, good customer service is to make it right, not be rude or nasty about it. I would have taken a discount on the refire item or anything but the combative attitude is a no no. I wish them success. read more

This is my favorite Mexican food place. I live in Chicago and have not found one that has come close. I have been to roughly 10 places downtown, and this one is still my favorite. Excellent find on a cold winter's night. The shrimp fajitas had a nice spice to them and were cooked tender. The chicken enchiladas were flavorful and both entrees were the perfect portion to fill you up without stuffing you too full. Rice and beans had good flavor and complimented the main course.
