Every staff member at the Shirlington location deserves an immediate raise or bonus. Last night around 8:45PM, I came in for a late night dinner. The only food I had time to eat yesterday. I almost always order online so I have my orders saved. In person, I ordered 2 Migas tacos and 1 Street Corn. The Migas come with bacon which slipped my mind because I have my saved orders that indicate No Bacon automatically. I don't eat meat. As soon as my order was delivered, I realized my mistake. I walked up to the counter and tried to order two new Migas with no bacon indicating it was completely my fault that I didn't ask for the modification. There was literal no hesitation from multiple staff members when they insisted on making me new ones for free. And apologizing to me for it not being exactly how I intended for it to be. Like what?! It was my fault! Completely! But they completely took care of me and even checked up on me to make sure the bacon-less Migas tasted good. I've probably been here close to 20 times, if not more, so I might be bias haha but I love Taco Bamba! I've tried their breakfast tacos as well as a number of their different tacos. My favorites are the barbacoa dirty style and the taco bamba taco! The shirlington location has an El Guapo quesadilla, if you go I would highly recommend! It was sweet, but you could tell they didn't skimp on the tequila, which was very much appreciated. I ordered the General Leo, Bird's Nest, and Birria tacos. The cheap price point is nowhere near reflected in the quality. Each taco was an experience of its own. The General Leo with chipotle spiced chicken, churros, and bacon bits was exceptional. It packed a punch with its spice. The lamb in the birria was mouth-watering with its flavor, freshness, and tenderness. The Bird's Nest was filling with its Peruvian chicken being the highlight. If you're cravings tacos, taco bamba is the place to be. There's a decent variety of tacos on their menu and fairly priced (although I prefer a $1 food truck tacos more). I ordered my tacos online and picked up my order within 15 minutes. Service is so quick it makes grabbing dinner so much smoother. It's a fairly small, casual restaurant with limited seating. They have indoor and outdoor seating (outdoor seating is limited to about two tables) but the inside is pretty's spacious. You order your food at the front, and then they will call your number. The taco in general was good and flavorful * Shrimp - shrimp seasoned to perfection, a lot of cabbage * Flautas - loaded with the lettuce on top, but pretty decent taste. Next time I would ask for more cojita cheese on top I never asked if they had flour tortillas, I think I would prefer flour, as I am not a big fan of corn tortillas. I suggest trying the sauces they offer, a lot of the tacos do not come with a sauce, but they need it. Just seems as if something is missing. Will I come back? definitely! It's definitely a bit more spacious, and the crowd tends to lean more family/late 20s/early 30s considering the neighborhood. My 10/10 favorites are the Arabe, Taco Bamba, and Al Pastor. It's the closest thing to authentic Mexican fare you're getting in this area, and honestly, the price isn't bad either. The kitchen definitely gets slammed around busy times, so you might have to wait a bit, but I've never been disappointed on a trip here. I asked the cashier (who was super friendly!) what she suggested since it was my first time and I went with her suggestion of the Red and Camaron Taco and I loved them both! Absolutely thrilled Taco Bamba is closer to home now! Went in this morning for their grand opening and it's clear this spot has a ton to offer and a great menu. The interior has been decorated with a specific design focused on Juan Bambo. Since the grand opening happened in the morning, the place was totally packed. The line did move slowly but they were understandably busy since they'd just opened! I expect the line will not be as big of an issue long term. Since it was early, we had breakfast tacos. The OG has been one of my favorite Taco Bamba tacos since the beginning, so I got that and the Migas taco, which was new to me. Loved both. A+ for value, variety, and service staff who know the menu and are able to answer questions. While I could have used a few more vegetarian taco options (though the variety of vegetarian options increases dramatically when you simply omit meat items, like chorizo, from certain tacos), there was clearly a genuine effort to make *thoughtful* vegetarian options available, not just obligatory afterthought veggie items. I'm pescatarian, but consequently eat a lot of vegetarian items and am always on the lookout for good options. Atmosphere is casual. You order at the counter. It is what it is. I ordered 4 tacos, knowing that these were street tacos, which tend to run small. They are deceptive. I was full after two. Largely this was because 1) they double up the corn tortillas - THANK YOU, and 2) they stuff these to the brim with the actual good stuff. At $5, the value was outstanding, especially considering this included sizeable portions of fish and shrimp. Now, the caveat, and the reason this is a solid 4 and not a 5, is that I didn't love every taco - though I'm glad I tried them all. The "red" taco, one of the specialty tacos, was the hands down winner of the bunch. Crunchy, spicy, ample, well-balanced - highly recommend. Also impressive was the $4.50 breakfast taco (breakfast tacos available all day!) that I ordered, sans chorizo, with egg omelette and other fixings. The omelette was huge and hanging out of the tortilla, and the whole bite was very flavorful. I did not love the "Great Big Mexican" taco, which came with a vegan mushroom chorizo and a truffle crema. I appreciate the effort to offer a creative vegetarian option, but it was weird. Too sweet, weird texture. Not for me. I also was sad that I didn't care for the "Blackfeesh" taco, which was a tempura grouper with a squid ink aioli. I love grouper, and I also love squid ink, and I thought it was brilliant that they offered these options in taco form. Being used to food that has been made black through the inclusion of ink - not blackened, mind you, stealth bomber Culture Hustle Black 3.0 black paint black- I personally didn't mind that it looked like a large black poop on a tortilla, though that might be offputting to some diners. However, as a single holistic bite this was just too fishy tasting. That may have been personal preference, but I think it needed some additional citrus or onion or something to balance it. I did not try the guava agua fresca in the fridge case but I love that they had it and hope to get some in the future. Overall, the value here is stellar and there is a really wide variety of creative flavor profiles. You most likely will not like everything you order your first few go-rounds, but that's a natural consequence of a menu that has so much variety and creativity, and is part of the fun, and this also ensures there's something for everyone. Plus, the affordable price point makes taking risks and trying things out very doable. read more
