Went to Guapo's for lunch with my parents. I like the menu here a lot. They have so many ceviche options. My mom ordered an omelette and said it was fantastic. Service was ok. I do like their food. While it doesn't come across as a super traditional Mexican restaurant, the food is great and they always have a lively atmosphere. The servers are looking to give you a positive experience. There's multiple garages nearby with free parking which adds to your overall experience. The food at this guapos in Shirlington is always good, whether you get one of the several types of ceviche, carne asada, asada tacos, chile rellenos, mariscada, or fajitas. The steak here is always cooked so tenderly and seasoned so well. The chile rellenos are ginormous, and actually have a good kick, we prefer the straight cheese as opposed to the carne con queso rellenos. The beans are always bomb here too. The Jamaica looks really pretty, but looks better than it tastes, you need to water it down, it's definitely on the sweet side. Take a few sips and then add water to it as you drink it. We had a blast at Guapo's!! My sisters and a few cousins decided to meet up at Guapo's to catch up over food and drinks!! I should emphasize the word "DRINKS" because that's the true star of this restaurant! Plenty of garage, street, and lot parking around the restaurant. The layout and decor is your usual Mexican flavor. I love the fact that if it's someone's birthday, the staff comes out playing instruments and sings to the table. Super cute! The staff were all nice and helpful, especially our server, Stephanie. She was very sweet and gave us wonderful menu suggestions. I had the chicken enchiladas and they were very good. Great flavors! Someone else at the table had pinto beans and I tasted them. They were delicious! So the food was truly on point! Now on to the star of the day, my mojito! I ordered the strawberry mojito and it was fabulous and HUGE! It had plenty alcohol and it was HUGE! Did I mention it was HUGE?! Ha! For $25, it should be! They offer bar, indoor, and outdoor seating, and with how spacious the place is, it's perfect for big groups. The food was satisfying! The salsa had good flavor and a nice kick (could use a bit more heat to be perfect). The sizzling beef and shrimp felt like eating a molcajete dish--just without the sauce. We also took home the mango cheesecake, which was good, but I wish they used mango jam or purée instead of the jelly-like topping. Had my first ever experience at Guapo's with some friends for brunch and it may be my new favorite Tex-Mex spot! We started off with some brunch drinks. I had a spicy Bloody Mary and it was fantastic. Not too tomato juice tasting and not so spicy it ruined my tongue! My friends had a Piña Colada that was amazing - not too watered down and just enough alcohol. The other two had one of their juices that were on special for a few $$ less than the menu price. They both said they were delicious! We shared the white queso that was very very good along with their table salsas. One salsa was a standard tomato salsa and the other was a bit smokier. Mixed together? Even better! I opted for the family recipe waffles with fresh berries and I was not disappointed. Unlike any other waffle I've had. My friends had the taco dish, opting for hard shell over soft flour, as well as the cheese enchiladas. Everyone cleaned their plates! I've eaten at Guapo's Shirlington a few times over the past year, despite having only been once or twice before for drinks only. I really like it and this type of Mexican cuisine is not really my favorite. The staff are amazing. Very friendly and attentive, despite it being constantly busy, and that definitely adds to my enjoyment of Guapo's. I also like that I can delivery from them later than a lot of other places in Arlington, which is helpful. The lively atmosphere is also fun. The margaritas are strong and delicious, so that is much appreciated. I love the vegetable fajitas. They actually give you a variety of vegetables, which are all perfectly grilled/charred and not just thrown on the skillet, unlike some other places. They thought the put into the dish is noticed. It's become my go-to order. My companions have all enjoyed their dishes as well. I like their chips and salsa. I've also had one of their ceviches and it was good. Met up with friends that live in Northern Virginia and DC....Guapos was easily accessible to all of us so I made the drive out of DC. I had been to Guapos in Georgetown years ago and wasn't expecting much, but I was wrong everything about this place was great. The service was hospitable, fast and well orchestrated. The food tasted great and came out quickly, most of all the drinks were on point. I had 1 grande margarita, normally margaritas are not my favorite but this one was smooth without the ready mix taste. I ordered the mushroom chimichangas which was amazing since most restaurants don't offer a vegetarian friendly chimichanga. Also their salsa, guacamole, chips, and other Mexican cuisine staples are amazing. You can really tell this place makes the chips and tortillas on site. We had a blast and will be back! read more

Samantha always takes good care of us when we stop by this location. I went for the tacos lunch special and it was truly delicious. Everything was well seasoned and the portions were a great size. This is my least favorite location for drinks, the mezcal mule wasn't smoky, it almost tasted like it had been watered down. I opted for a margarita, and it tasted more like syrup than anything else. Honestly, I love Guapo's. I had a nice intimate, solo lunch on the side patio today and it was lovely. The staff members were incredibly attentive. The food was good (note: it was good - it was not exceptional - I spent a lot of time in Cali.... Mexican food is different there... the five stars is for the overall experience that I consistently have here). Today, I ordered the chicken enchiladas, and sangria. Of course, they blessed your girl with free chips and salsa. And you know what I noticed today? The roasted salsa is actually served warm. I did not notice that the first time. It was great. I definitely like the chunkier salsa a little bit better, because the roasted just doesn't have the exact flavors that I look for and a roasted salsa, but I appreciate them both and I like to actually mix them. Enchiladas: very good. Green sauce could be a little greener, meaning, having more of a true tomatillo flavor. But good overall. Portion size: good. Again, the chips and salsa are bottomless and free. And, even though the thought of two enchiladas seems small, they are actually pretty full and pretty filling. Plus, they are served with rice and beans. You can sub and get double rice if that's your thing. Sangria: good. Pretty basic red wine mixed with fruit. I definitely had a little bit of a buzz after drinking a regular, but the large is 24 ounces and might be what I get next time. Lol. Vibes: i'm telling you, I really appreciated my time on the patio. I didn't realize how peaceful it was. Even with relatively loud Latin music playing in the background, it was so calm and I was able to work there for a couple of hours while enjoying a nice lunch. It was busy, but we were seated right away in the midst of many birthday celebrations (I lost count of the number of times the staff sang Happy Birthday). Extremely slow. They were so bad that I had two DoorDash drivers reach out to me and say "the restaurant is taking too long getting your order ready." I tried to order dinner from this place last night, and both DoorDash drivers gave up and left after waiting over 30 minutes each, for my simple dinner order to be finished. I really wanted to like this place. Seating was very quick as we requested an outside table (inside was packed- Friday evening). We ordered a starter of queso and our entrees as soon as we sat down. The queso took so long to arrive, we went through an entire basket of chips and salsa before it came to the table. The entrees took forever as well. Luis was our server. He apologized for the food taking so long and said there was a problem with the kitchen. I ordered a chicken and shrimp fajita with NO ONION. I specifically asked if that could be done and was told yes. I know some places have the fajita ingredients frozen and cannot separate ingredients, so I always ask. Why did the fajitas they brought me have onion!?!? The chicken was seasoned well, but overcooked (burned). Same with the shrimp (chewy). Our server didn't check on us, not once, after the food arrived. When we finished, he came over to collect our plates. I let him know I ate what I could, but the fajitas had onions when I said no onion. He said ok and walked away, returning with the bill. No accommodation for the slow service or incorrect order. I ordered GUAPO'S STEAK & EGGS which had 3 options for the steak which was flank, NY, and ribeye.
