Birria tacos with delicious salsa and rice and beans

Love this Michigan Ave restaurant! The ambiance is beautiful, especially their outdoor dining area. So great! The food is good, on a previous visit I had 2 Al Pastor and 1 Asanda taco - yum! Tonight I had 2 birria tacos with rice and beans. It was very tasty. The tacos were just a little dry, even with their cosumé but the flavor was delicious. We enjoyed a nice dinner with our family. Nice work Borracho, keep it up!

We've been to Taco Borracho several times now, including twice for brunch, so I figured I should update my review. The brunch menu is small but offers several savory options, which is great for me as I love a savory brunch. As of April 2023, the only real sweet brunch option was brioche French toast. I love chilaquiles, so I usually order it if it's available. Taco Borracho's version is really good! I loved the sauciness of the dish even though the eggs were more like over-hard rather than over easy. The avocado is a nice addition to this dish, and it was a big portion that was very filling. On our most recent brunch visit, I got the steak and eggs which was really tasty. The meat is cut thin (skirt steak), but it was tender and very flavorful. The potatoes were slightly bland but I added some hot sauce which helped. I really liked this take on a favorite brunch dish. It was again a large portion that kept me full the rest of the day. They have several brunch appropriate cocktails and everyone liked their mimosas. If you're with a bigger group, they have an 88 ounce mimosa tower that would be great for sharing! The patio wasn't open yet in late April but it's a nice enclosed space that is perfect for warmer weather.

I was starving and wanted something local that wasn't a chain, and I happened to find this place not far from where I was staying. (like 6 miles away.) I stumbled in, sat at the bar and reviewed the menu. Most stuff's here's a la carte, but you can add rice and beans for a few extra bucks to your food. The taco selection's fantastic, as they have chicken, beef, pork and even vegetarian ones as well. They have other food as well, but I was in it for tacos, so there's that. This place is actually pretty hip. The weather was super nice and they had the patio open and it was really nice. The other half of the bar sits literally outside, so you can enjoy the weather without getting blasted by the sun or change of weather. Parking here absolutely SUCKS. Like bad. There's a very tight parking lot and only a handful of spaces. I had to drive around for a good 5 minutes and ended up parking in a lot across the street not to terribly far away. Tow away signs everywhere, and kind of made me almost go somewhere else. My one sore point? Even though there seemed to be ample staff working, the service here was slow to the point I felt ignored. There was a few times my server blatantly walked by me, didn't make any eye contact or respond. Was she trying to be rude on purpose? No, but it was hard to get literally anyone's attention. Lot's of waiting on my end, and it was kind of a turn off. There was a few times she was literally two feet from me and I needed a drink refill (and eventually my bill) and no matter how many times I said "ma'am excuse me" she didn't look up once or help. I know she was busy but there was also other servers who seemed to busy to check in on people for much of anything. I just wish the staff would check in more often with the guests then worry about other stuff. Like I said, the staff here's nice and such, but they were to busy stocking the bar, disappearing endlessly for long stretches of time, whatever. There were a few girls sitting across from me who seemed to have the same issue at the bar and I just don't get it. Wait on your tables! Anyway, I will probably return but with a lot more patience next time, as this seems to be a really fun and hip spot to hang out at, especially in the summer.

I've only come to Taco Borracho a couple times. The first time was during their soft open and the second time, I waited almost a year to return. I know that soft opens always have a lot of kinks to work out, but given there are so many taco spots in GR now, I haven't gone back. However, after a year, I wanted to try it out! I'm happy that I did. A couple things to note: 1) Parking in the rear is available and free, though it can be a little tough to snag, so street parking is your other option. 2) It was 90+ degrees outside and the restaurant is open air. I did appreciate the patio and the garage doors being open, but I would recommend investing in a few more fans to move the air around. It definitely got a little warm at times. 3) The music was pretty loud, while a certain vibe, not necessarily something I was looking for at like 5pm on a Tuesday. I liked the decor though and the neon signs were super cute. Very trendy touch. We ordered the chips, queso and salsa to share. I really liked the queso but the salsa was a bit lacklustre for me. I felt like there wasn't enough flavor or heat, that I like in a salsa. The chips and queso though, definitely worth getting and I would order that again! I'll pass on the salsa. I also appreciated that we went during happy hour so the tacos I ordered (al pastor and carne asada) were $1.50 off each! Both delicious and the salsa verde? So good. The depth of the flavoring was what I was hoping for in the roja. Our server was really kind and attentive, I'd definitely come back again and try new things! I just prefer restaurants where I don't have to yell to hear the person I'm sitting across, but it's a certain vibe. So if you know that going in, it's not so bad.

We were really in the mood for tacos and were more than satisfied with our meal here last night:)! Walking in we noticed right away what a fun vibe the interior had with several neon lights and cool velvet and leather textures. We were seated immediately and given waters and menus. I was excited about all the taco choices there were and had to narrow it down to three for myself to try. For appetizers we ordered the chips and guac which was delicious and fresh! And also the tostones! Served with mayochip and that was crispy and something different for me and I enjoyed it. The tacos were SO SO SO good! I ordered the Papas taco which had potatoes, cabbage slaw, cilantro, & onions on a crispy corn tortilla and I already wanna go back just for this taco alone. Yum! I also ordered the Impossible taco because I enjoy trying the vegetarian/vegan options when I can and it was definitely very good with plant based meat, daiya cheese, green pepper, cilantro, & onions on a corn tortilla. Last but not least I ordered the Pescado Taco, which had breaded fish, cabbage slaw, house made chipotle sauce & onions on a flour tortilla. I love fish tacos and this one was especially delicious. My friend loved her tacos and she ordered the steak, chicken, & pork! For dessert, we were told the churros were good and boy were they right!!! I love to try churros at almost any taco place I'm at and not to be dramatic or anything but these are some of the best churros I've had in a very long time. Wow! So crispy and delicious on the outside but soft and gooey on the inside. They came with 3 large churros and caramel, chocolate, and whipped cream for dips! Just a really wonderful experience overall! Loved the atmosphere, every single food item we ordered, and the service! Will definitely recommend to anyone and everyone and come again and again.:):)

3.5 star. Just fine. Wasn't overly wowed but it's not bad. I had the huevos tacos which were very good. I added on rice and beans for $7 which is a bit of a rip off since it's not a big portion. The refried beans also tasted rather salty. Other people in my group had a burrito and some other tacos and the elote. I've only ever seen elote served in dishes and it was cool to see it actually on the cob, which the person said it was good but overly seasoned. The decor is cool and I love all the neon signs. We sat at the front bar area so we didn't get to see much of the place. Music is a little loud for my preference and also the margarita blender is loud AF that you can hear it over the loud music. The poor bartenders that use it must be going deaf! Service was fine. They have a small parking lot in back but you're better off parking just down the road in a different lot.

If you enjoy tacos, live music, and friendly service - have I got the place for you! Taco Borracho serves up a good variety of menu items offering items with a Puerto Rican flair that provides a slightly different offering than a typical taco joint. And don't skip the dessert - I was too full for the tres leches cake, but the half churro dipped in caramel sauce was the perfect nightcap to a wonderful night out with family. We will definitely be back!

This up beat taqueria is alive! The food was wonderful and the Hibiscus Margarita was beyond delightful! We sat at the bar and had excellent service from two bartenders who did their jobs well! The ambiance is upbeat and fun! Definitely at must try!

They really need to get their stuff together - nothing about this place makes me want to come back again. Food and drinks were mediocre. Drinks take FOREVER to come out, I don't get it. Atmosphere and decor, plus patio were cool. But being right on Michigan St is loud! The servers are frazzled as can be, and it seems like no one knows what they are doing.

Great menu. Some gf and vegan options too. Went with a large group and everyone raved about their meal. Some orders modified/picky and gladly accommodated. Server and waitress awesome!. We, party of 4, had dinner there last night. We arrived in 3 vehicles (mistake) about 6:30 pm, one of us was able to find parking onsite, the others had to walk a distance. The restaurant was already busy when we arrived. Our server (B-Love L), was busy with several tables, but he kept up with a friendly nature, and our food arrived timely and hot! I had the chicken taco platter and it was the tastiest I've had in a long time. The chicken must have been marinated and has a wonderful flavor, the refried beans were delicious and not watered down, and the rice has a very nice savory blend of spices. The ambiance is fun, but the acoustics are a little sharp. I'm a little hard of hearing, but they we're playing some great Bachata music during dinner, just wish I could hear it better. Enjoyed my leftovers for lunch. I'll definitely eat here again! read more

Great atmosphere and location but overpriced. The waitress was very attentive, but they did not have half of the things on the menu. I had the tostones con ceviche and a piña colada. I was disappointed that the ceviche only had shrimps and the piña colada was missing flavor. read more

Such a cool new spot in GR!! Best authentic Mexican food and the best margarita I have ever had. Usually margaritas are super sweet but the margaritas here are the perfect natural sweetness! The blueberry margarita is a must !! Perfect location right by the hospital for a great after work drink! All the staff were so sweet- our waitress Vanessa was the best! read more

First time going, will try again. Got the empanadas- never had with cream cheese - was good. Tostones were good, could have used a little more garlic but they were good. My steak taco wasn't the best - but will try another before making a final decision. The waitress was friendly. Loved the ambiance representing all the Caribbean Island Flags. Waitress that seated us had an attitude, we never saw a waitress/waiter. We left after 15 minutes without any service. Menu is over priced. Paying $1.50 for consume with a 6$ birria taco. Go to any of the other Mexican restaurants in town, service can't be worse. The prices online do not match the menu prices. read more

I went here with my family for a casual college graduation meal and the food was amazing! I was referred from a TikTok and my expectations were succeeded and I was happy to see how busy it was on this day. It was a little difficult to make a reservation but I only had to because it was graduation weekend as I mentioned. Ambiance was great and so was the drinks/food. Went there and sat outside with my husband-nice patio area. Service was not so great though. We waited about 10mins before actually meeting our server-very nice young girl though. Asked for a container and bag for our chips and salsa after paying the bill-our server never came back (waited 5ish mins) but went to attend her other tables...so we left without our food :( read more

Not a nice experience, and I'm somewhat lenient on expectations of a taco joint. Chips and salsa are $7? That's ridiculous first of all. Chips and salsa are a staple of Mexican cuisine and are given to diners as a "thank you for dining with us" appetizer. If I have to pay 2-3 bucks to cover cost, than so be it but not 7. 1/2 the chips were undercooked as well. Proud of them for making homemade chips but comeon dude, get some consistency! Our server was trying her hardest but failed to bring us our drinks until the fourth table touch. They were two bottled beers... by that time our tacos were coming out. Did not see a manager running the floor helping out. I would expect during the dinner rush they would be out doing at least something? Nope. Anyway tortillas were pure grease, not worth it. Too bad, I was really looking forward to this place being a great taco joint. Maybe they'll figure things out. Atmosphere is cool, our server Kay was nice and hustlin. read more

Really delicious food and some of the best tacos in GR, but our experience was ruined by our awful server. We ordered chips and queso with guac and she came out with chips and salsa. She was clearly unfamiliar with the menu as she didn't know what flavors of margarita they had. We didn't get our drinks that we ordered for 25 minutes after we sat down, and they were so bad tasting like someone dumped salt into them that we sent them back. We sat with no chips and just guacamole, queso and empty waters until the owner noticed we were just sitting there. The server told us that she was going to go out back to smoke her vape and that she would be right back. She was trying to set us up with her son several times while we were in the middle of eating. The server super messed up who ordered what and ended up giving my friend $10 when her change was $10.43 because the server didn't feel like going to get the the change. These are just the big problems that we experienced during our meal. read more

I am in love with this place! Great aesthetic, even better food! I love the outdoor seating there's a cute little indoor/outdoor bar you can sit at. When I sat down I decided to order a jalapeño margarita and it was very well balanced and actually spicy which I appreciate. I ordered the elote which was perfectly salty and creamy. I then had the shrimp and chorizo taco and what a wonderful combination that was! I am very impressed with Taco Borracho's creativity on their menu. I will be back. read more

Went here for the first time last Friday night. Loved the atmosphere from the catchy music to the patio set up, just amazing. We were sat right away at a nice high top on the patio. The place was packed, so it took a minute for our server to stop by, but she was working hard. A buss boy dropped off waters while we waited so that was nice . Our Server Vanessa was so nice, friendly, and knowledgeable . I also love the fact that this is a family owned and operated restaurant. I ordered the blood orange margarita and my boyfriend a mojito; both drinks were fast and delicious! For an appetizer we shared the chips, salsa, and queso, all of it was so yummy! Then we ordered the Al pastor taco and pescado taco for our dinner tacos. Highly recommend adding grilled pineapple to the pescado/fish taco. The prices and quality of food was well worth it! We had such a great experience, we will be back very soon. This place had all the right vibes for a fun dinner night out! read more

Took a while to get our drinks, wasn't too busy when we showed up but was getting progressively busier. Ordered and waited an hour for our food, came out cold. Dry corn shells and cold food, then the bill was insanely high. Just paid and left. Atmosphere was cool but the food & Margs aren't worth the price or taste. read more

what a great spot and great food thats much needed in GR. I wish they had been here when we lived here. The food is definitely authentic Latino food. La empanadas are amazing and the Puerto Rican rice is almost as good as Abuelas. I hear they have Salsa and Reggeaton nights for dancing. A "you must stop" spot in Grand Rapids. read more

Don't let the couple bad reviews deter you. I'm not sure about some of them anyhow. Because this place is the best new restaurant in GR. I went when they opened and they needed so much improvement and I was not sure they could pull it off, and after stopping in this past week it's not the same place it was in the the beginning , they have made strides. This place is special . They still have work to do, but I have no doubt they will figure it all out. The energy and food are great. It's not like any other place in GR. And the staff looks to be more diverse than anyplace I've EVER been to in Gr and I just feel welcome and I can come as I am. The steak taco is on point, and this corned beef taco is so delicious. It sounds like a weird food , but try it ! read more

The biscuits were so fresh and the gravy had a really nice and comforting flavor to it. You could get chorizo and mushrooms in your gravy but i went with a traditional sausage for my protein. My bacon on the side came in a tiny dish but I ate all four pieces haha. Once we finished, there were some bus bins under the same table with the silverware, we placed all our dirty dishes there and cleaned up after ourselves before leaving. I honestly felt so content leaving there and can't wait to return. I really appreciate the ambiance in there with the beautiful plant life, the lights on the ceiling, and cool decor in general. The staff was also SO NICE! Wins everywhere. I also noticed people coming in for takeout which is good to know in case I don't feel like dining in some morning. Hey everyone.. this is a terrible restaurant. If you leave a bad review; the owner, Angel G., will message you to argue about it instead of doing anything to improve. Oh, and don't try to prove a point because dearest Angel does not care and he will accuse you of many other things before he shuts up and takes the critical feedback in order to help his restaurant survive. For the review; service, food, and ambiance are all terrible. There are hundreds of better restaurants in Grand Rapids that deserve your patronage and you'll have a much better experience. This restaurant survives because they managed to find an okay slot of property. Don't forget.. these are the boobs that thought they could open on Cinco de Mayo and then promptly closed for a very long time because they could not meet basic demands. I only hope one day to see this shit hole on either bar rescue or restaurant impossible. Because it needs rescuing or it's impossible to stay open. I can only hope that Robert Irvine or Jon Taffer give this clown of an owner a rude awakening that is much needed. Taco Borracho absolutely deserves 5 stars in my book! They went above and beyond to accommodate our large party of 13 for my birthday dinner. I originally requested the patio, but they thoughtfully called ahead to check if we'd prefer indoor seating due to the cold, snowy, and windy weather--a level of consideration that truly stood out. The atmosphere was incredible--beautifully decorated with Hispanic flags, artwork, and ambient lighting that created a warm and inviting space. The reggaeton music added to the energy, and we even found ourselves dancing during dinner! As for the food, I ordered the arrachera steak dinner, and it was absolutely delicious. The arroz con gandules tasted just like home, and they didn't miss a thing--including the classic side salad that completes any authentic Hispanic meal. To top it all off, the amazing staff surprised me with a tres leches cake and sang Happy Birthday, making the night even more special. If you're looking for a lively spot for a celebration or even a fun night out for two, I highly recommend Taco Borracho. The atmosphere, food, and staff were all top-notch! This is my go to place when I'm craving a great sandwich. They have the best Puerto Rican steak sandwich, the bread that they use is so good. The sandwich has a large portion of flavorful steak, put together with all of the toppings and melty cheese ughhh sooo good!!
