Stopped by for dinner - the first time we've been there in about 8 months and they have a new Summer 2025 menu. We had Asada Tacos and the Beef Burrito as well as chips and queso - all were great! We left full! My only wish is that their menu had some more options like combination plates to try more than one item at a time. The view of the canal is nice. Food is tasty but that comes from calorie-loading: tons of mayonnaise-based sauce, and they deep-fry the corn taco shells. There were several problems with the service including giving us two meals and only one place setting. The one server responsible for the room was not up to that. It was a little off-putting that the bill said something like "combo tacos" but they would not allow us to combine different tacos into the 3-taco meal. I also wish she had asked whether we wanted corn or flour tortillas, or that we had double-checked. We got one meal with each and so my gluten-free companion could not share in the ones with flour. read more

Omygosh - great experience today for Taco Tuesday!!! Ordered the taco Tuesday special. $10 for draft beer or soft drink and 2 tacos. All were terrific! Staff perfect and engaging. You gotta do it as a regular weekly dinner or check it out as a tourist stop! Also - a sign outside for your daily specials may draw people in! We found this local Mexican restaurant a couple of years, and along with the amusing name, really enjoyed it. Now we stop in whenever when we are headed north. The back section over looks the river, they also have some patio seating in the front. The menu is a good size, besides tacos, they have all the other American- Mexican items as well as a long list of flavors for margaritas. The littles in our group like the kids quesadillas. We stick to the tacos, all come as soft corn shells, and all that we've had are great. I particularly like their avocado taco, the avocado is covered in cheese and fried, so there is crispy cheese and soft, creamy avocado on the inside. Their chips and guac are also stand outs. These are not the questionable did-it-come-out-of-the-bag chips. No, these are the crisp, the right side of greasy, double sided chips. The guac is chunky, with tomato and onion. We had Jo as a server, and she was wonderful, very friendly and on top of things despite being short staffed. read more

So here's how you are greeted, disappointing. Completely ignored by two servers, although one did find time to step out into the street and talk to his friend. First impressions are big,especially in the front of the house. Came here on a recommendation with a party of 5 and again never got to try the food! Two stars for that reason. The margarita was filled to the brim with ice and so there was not much to drink. The burritos had an unusual amount of onion in them and the burrito contents were not spread evenly at all. Service was a little weird both times we went recently (we had a 'first time' server on each visit, one of them being a cook that was covering for a waitress that didn't show up?). Taco Bout It was on my radar from a friend who's from the area, so my camping group stopped in for some drinks and snacks on a rainy weekend while staying at Orchard Beach State Park nearby. I loved our experience and the food and drinks were tasty. We had a short wait as they were not at full capacity due to social distancing measures, but we weren't in a hurry. The back room has a really nice view of the Manistee River, so I was happy to be seated there. They offer a number of different flavors of margarita and I tried the watermelon one and the pineapple vanilla margarita. Both were excellent! I loved the refreshing watermelon flavor (no fake flavoring here) and the pineapple vanilla was a slightly sweet option. We also ended up getting the margaritas with the mini Corona bottles in them which I love! It takes a little edge off the sweetness of the margarita and makes them even more refreshing with the bubbles. Chips and salsa were not complimentary but we ordered them and they were delicious! Pretty typical thin salsa and thin, crisp chips. My boyfriend and I ordered some tacos to share, including the avocado taco with a layer of crispy fried cheese, something I haven't ever seen except at a taco place in San Diego, which was cool. The tacos were ordered a la carte but ended up coming with rice and beans. The rice was really flavorful and yummy, the beans a little tough. We also got the shrimp taco and the Hawaiian taco - both were really good! The shrimp was cooked nicely and the ham and pineapple combo of the Hawaiian was salty and sweet and a unique taco experience. Our server was great; really helpful with recommendations and on top of everything. We had zero issues with service when we were there. In fact, the service we received was pretty great. I would definitely go back to Taco Bout It next time I'm in the area! read more

Visited on a Saturday for dinner. I ordered steak tacos and my wife got a beef burrito. The burrito was huge and the tacos were small but very tasty. Very glad to see they now provide three tacos per entree instead of 2 like they used to. We also had chips and queso that was good, but would have liked to see a little more queso provided so there was enough for the entire basket of chips for the $8 price. Overall, much improved from a prior visit, but still room for some improvement. read more

Loved our visit. Wonderful July night in Michigan. We were lucky to seat 12 outside. Even though they warned us if the wait the service and food was prompt and excellent. I ordered the Guava margarita. It was excellent with a smooth taste. Their guacamole was fresh and chunky! For my meal I ordered the Mexican sloppy Joe. The portions were huge. The fried cheese made an excellent presentation. There is a hint of spice to the sandwich as well. We didn't get a chance to try their ice cream bars. But for sure next time! My friend and I were on our yearly trip to the Ludington, MI area. We went to visit our favorite rock shop in the Frankfort area and decided we wanted something to eat. Our favorite spot had closed for good and we decided to stop on the way back to our rental home. We stopped in Manistee and saw Taco 'Bout it Mexican Fusion. We decided to give it a shot. Walking in, it looked nice. The back room was on the river, so you had a great view. We were greeted by a very young girl, who must have been the child of an employee. Upon sitting down, I could instantly tell they were short staffed or just not properly set up. Our waitress took almost 10 minutes before she stopped at our table. She seemed nice and we asked for a water each. I also ordered a large Modelo. We also ordered some chips and Queso dip. When she brought the drinks, I asked for a lime for my beer. She said she would be right back, but 10 minutes later, never returned. She was standing by the bar and talking with other staff. The table next to us also had to hunt her down to get water refills and any attention whatsoever. When she finally returned, maybe 15 minutes from when the drinks arrived, my friend asked again for a lime and she finally got it. She then brought out the chips and queso. The chips were fresh fried and VERY greasy, as if they were not allowed to drain long enough before being served. The queso was a standard queso. It wasn't horrible, also wasn't noteworthy. The waitress then took our orders. My friend ordered the avocado tacos and I ordered the Richard Burrito with no pico and a chorizo hard taco. About 10 minutes after our order, the manager came by and stated the kitchen ran out of chicken and wouldn't have more for at least an hour, as the uncooked chicken they had was frozen. I was given the option of beef or steak for the burrito and I chose steak. Another 15-20 minutes go by and we still have not seen our waitress, as she was just floating around and hanging at the bar to talk. The table next to us asked the other waiter, who it must be said was doing a great job of taking care of his tables, to find our waitress and send her over for refills of drinks. After 5 minutes, the other waiter just took their drinks and refilled them as our waitress was still nowhere to be found. Finally, the table next to us had their food arrive and orders were messed up. The waitress took care of it. And about 5 minutes later, our food arrived. My friend's tacos looked great, but it was just 2 tacos for $10 with no rice or beans. My burrito looked plain and the taco was ok, but again no sides with the price they were asking made it not worth it. We started eating and as soon as I opened my burrito, it was full of Pico. I had asked for no pico and it was like they put double in. The little bit of steak and beans I did eat was flavorless. I stopped eating it after 2 bites, as it wasn't good at all. All this time, my water and beer were empty and our waitress was no where to be found. The table near us wanted to leave, as I am sure they were fed up with the lack of attention from the waitress. They had to ask the other waiter to get her to give them their bill. When she finally came back to our table, I explained that the burrito was full of pico when I had asked for none. She acknowledged that I did say that and went to a manager after I asked her to just remove the burrito as I was over her poor service. When she brought me the bill, it was for $36. I put my card down and when she came back, she had charged me $42. At this point I felt defeated as the whole experience was extremely poor. I hunted her down and asked her why I was charged more than what was on the bill. She got frustrated and called her manager over stating "This is the pico guy". I explained I was just trying to understand why my bill was lower than what I was charged and that she must be frustrated with me after how short she became when I asked for help. I also stated that I am not trying to cause a problem, I just want to get my bill right after all the issues. The manager was very calm and corrected the issue quickly, which I appreciated. Once it was done, we left. Overall we had an extremely poor experience. I would not go back after a 40-60 minute meal took almost an hour and 45 minutes. "5 stars!! Plus 3" - the review from my boyfriend. After drinking some tequila, my boyfriend and I decided that Mexican food was the only option so we immediately decided to order from Taco Bout It. We ordered a handful of things... walking taco, street taco, ahi taco, chips and salsa, queso, taco salad, chicken burrito and the donut churro. Being a couple of drinks in, we added fun notes for the staff to brighten their Taco Tuesday! It was a ton of food and quite good. We couldn't finish everything and I asked, "should we toss it or leave it?" And my boyfriends response was "I want to wake up to the smell of tacos" ...while that doesn't sound like a raving review, it is. Our favorite thing was the donut churro - do NOT sleep on this! Get 10 and just have it for dinner. Chocolate sauce would have made it even better but it was amazing. Our next favorite was the burrito. The chips were also very good - not greasy and still held a great crunch! I would have to say if you want a throw back to elementary school, order the walking taco for some amazing Doritos and you'll be transported back to age 8. We'd definitely order again! Chips were the best chips. Salsa was great but won't bring you out additional and expect a small cup to last 4 people. Loaded nachos underwhelming. Watermelon margarita was great. The waiter, less than par. We came in from kayaking and wanting to order some waters, myself a drink, a kids mac and cheese, some nachos and maybe a dessert. It was hot and we were hungry but wanted to eat lite because we were exhausted from kayaking and it was very hot... The waiter didn't really want to wait on us once he found out we weren't eating meals. Although we tip very generous... then I asked him how much were the ice cream bars which are $6 I mean they were amazing but not 6 dollars.... the guy just went and brought my son one... we said it was his birthday so id think about it but the waiter didn't ask, went and got one which we were like thats nice they gave my son one for his birthday... We DID try calling 3 times to ask about the menu items, but the phone went directly to a voicemail that "wasn't set up". :( Avocado & Shrimp Taco a la carte.... 1 tiny taco each loaded with cilantro. Kids Fry Basket.... huge, great price, no salt. Cheese quesadillas.... just two triangles. Baja Burrito... Large-ish, messy. :( didn't expect such small helpings, all of us are still hungry $50 later. The food is DELISH - they really know what they're doing. They are newer and are getting their waitstaff up to speed - but it's tough to run a restaurant in a smaller town with tourist rushes. I have eaten here a couple times before and it was terrific This last go around was a no go We noticed out front seating was wide open as only 2 tables occupied so we thought we would give it a try We literally stood with 3 other groups at the hostess stand for 13 minutes. Ordered shrimp taco dinner. Now, shrimp was on par; nicely cooked and not fishy. But the tortillas were dry, overall the taco was very dry. No sauce. Enjoyed the black beans which were nicely seasoned, rice as also dry. Overall we were happy with the price and speed. Tortillas could be thinner and more moist but we'd try it again. Tacos with a killer view. This restaurant used to be a truck, and the tacos in the truck are equally phenomenal as you'd find in there restaurant. The Taco Bout It, has loads of potential. The owner a former RN, has a great personality and has big ideas for her restaurant. The specialize in Tacos and Burritos, but especially in tacos. They kinda limit themselves in the two and it's a shame, as the Mexican dishes far exceeds Tacos and Burritos. But, I digress. There food is killer. Find me a locally owned restaurant with as much focus on quality ingredients and freshness as this team puts together and I promise you I'll go there as much as I plan on visiting Taco Bout It. I stopped in for lunch today and tried a trio of their premium tacos. Hawaiian Taco was something different and worth checking out, the Barbacoa is traditional and simply delicious, but the shrimp was my favorite, Fresh and tasty. Cons - We waited well over an hour for our food. The server kept promising that our order "was up next" and still, we waited. One of orders was a burrito. The server asked if we wanted it with queso. Ended up being a $5 up charge for a tiny cup of queso sauce! Also, $2 extra to refill the basket with more chips. If the kitchen is short staffed, which was obviously the case since every table we witnessed was also waiting for their food, then the server, or better yet, the manager should let us know. Maybe even comp the extra queso sauce at the very least LOL! Food was OK but definitely not worth the wait. read more
