We finally got the opportunity to eat at this restaurant after it opened for the 2024 summer season. Based on this one visit, I'd have to say that everyone in our group of six were happy with their entrees. The chimichanga, burrito and tacos were all good. The service was good and the prices were reasonable. I'd be nice if they could get a liquor license so you could enjoy a cold beer or a margarita, but until then I'm happy Amigos here. read more

The new Mexican restaurant in Onekama is pretty good. Lots of choices on the menu. I had one of the combos which included 2 enchiladas and 1 taco plus rice and refried beans for $12.99. Not bad really. Started the dinner with chips and salsa which often is complementary but $2 here. Totally understand though because I think it's hard to keep a business open in this sleepy town. Others had the tacos and the fish tacos which were deemed very good. Note that the salsa that comes with the tacos is muy caliente! Tasty though. Service was good and food came out pretty quickly. Note that they charge 3% more for credit card but I didn't see a sign or any notice about that. Again, just trying to make a living in Onekama. read more

So yummy! Super authentic Mexican food. The decor is bright and fun inside. Fair prices, fresh ingredients, big portions and friendly service. They never skimp on the meat! They always keep it crisp and cool in there, so it's the perfect spot for a good meal on a hot day. For people who like to sit outside, the spacious, breezy deck has a nice view of the cute little marina on the lake! P.S. I'm lactose intolerant so sometimes its hard to find something to eat at Mexican restaurants, but these folks have plenty of dairy free options and have never messed up when I ask for no cheese! My favorite menu items so far are the green enchiladas and the chicken tacos. The fresh corn tortillas are to die for, and they have some of the tastiest rice and beans I've had anywhere!! We saw Amigos Mexican Restaurant come up on a search for Yelp while visiting Onekama. The pictures looked amazing and the reviews were great so we wanted to try it. I am SO GLAD that we did! Wow! When we came in we were greeted so warmly and kindly by the staff. We opted for carry out, as my husband and I had plans to watch a movie while we ate and the food was prepared so quickly. I thought it was really cool that the woman who worked there pointed to everything in the carry out containers and told us what each thing was, ensuring that all items were in the bag before we left. It was really helpful and appreciated! My husband said the burrito de la casa was the best burrito that he's ever had- and he is a very harsh critic. The queso dip and salsa were both fantastic and my veggie fajitas were incredibly flavorful. I'm so happy that we came across Amigos Mexican Restaurant- it was EXACTLY what we needed! Small town restaurant with a beautiful view of Portage Lake. Service was very friendly and seating is tight yet comfortable. We started with chips & salsa and made-to-order guacamole. Guac is not mashed but cut up tomatoes, onions, avocado and cilantro. It could use lime but overall we liked the freshness! Salas is a little too tomato for our taste and also needed salt (plenty on the table!!) Opted to try the Mole since it's pretty hard to find. Absolutely obvious the server was new because she knew very little about the menu - but willing to ask and accommodate. Very kind. Husband ordered carne asada tacos. Mole was just okay (I like it slightly sweet) but chicken was good and so were the beans. Rice was fine. Husband enjoyed his tacos which came with grilled and pickled onions!! and a side of radish. We both really missed the citrus garnish. Typical bottled soda choices of like a good Mexican restaurant. Overall we'll be back! read more

Tried this place for the first time--we thought it was good! I had the huarache with carnitas--it was a little greasy due to the carnitas but very tasty. The taco eater thought her dinner was very good (al pastor). The salsa served with dinner was deliciously spicy. Great addition to Onekama! read more

I've been back twice since it's so close to our summer place to give them another try, and both times, outstanding!! Very authentic, great service, large portion and reasonably priced. The atmosphere significantly improved. They have a very popular dessert and it was giant and awesome! We will come here every time we're in town. read more

This place is ground zero for quality authentic Mexican food in all of the State. 10X better than the roadhouse, which is a beloved greasy Texmex knockoff a couple communities over. Amigo is a real gem and this small town is lucky to have a place like this! A bit over priced but understandable in a small seasonal area with limited traffic. super slow service, the atmosphere was bi polar with two different musics playing at the same time. we had to ask a second time for our drinks after waiting 20 minutes. the chips tasted reheated the lemonade tastes like it's sat in a basement, I ordered less food than I wanted because I was with 4 other people who all ordered something none of us are happy at all. All of our orders were messed up one way or another the tacos were good. however they would have been better if they came with all that was advertised. prices are super high! do not recommend will not come back. on my way to get some food from somewhere else read more

Went to Amigos tonight with my boyfriend. We walked in and the person behind the cash register and said pick a table. So we found a table and it was 15-20 minutes before someone came and served us. Our waiter was a couple booths behind us on the phone and kept looking at us but never came over until the lady behind the cash register came over and apologize for not being served, then told the lady she had a table. Our waiter still didn't serve us so they had a guy who I think was a cook come out and serve us. The food was alright, but for how much it cost you'd get better food, service, and save more money at El rancho in ludington or El toro in manistee. There food is better and you get an actually meal instead of small plates of over priced food. read more
