You ever have those moments when you're not sure if you're hungry? You might not be. But you might be. So you take the chance to eat, even though you're unsure of if it's the right move. But also, if you don't eat you might die? This was one of those moments. It was nigh on dinner time and I wasn't sure of my next move. Nothing in particular sounded good. When that's the case, you can always settle for Mexican. Who doesn't like tacos and taco related foods? I saw this was a fairly new restaurant so I decided to give it a run. (Also, this place used to be the River Street Station, where I spent A LOT of time stuffing my face). Nostalgia 10/10. Taking a corner booth, I opened my menu and stared. I just wasn't sure what I needed. Nothing in particular stood out, so I settled on nachos and a single taco. Always get a taco at a Mexican place, regardless of what else you get. Get a taco. Do it. The nachos came with refried beans, shredded chicken, beef, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, cheese, and potentially something else I'm forgetting. I ordered a beef taco. American. On a flour shell. (American tacos usually come with lettuce, tomato, and cheese). Usually I go for the chorizo, Mexican style, but a good ol' fashioned beefer sounded good. My food arrived in a timely fashion and as usual, the nachos were piled high and my taco was wrapped up nice and neat it a little aluminum foil coffin. I was feeling spicy, so I added several large thwumps of hot sauce. And unfortunately from here, it's just kind of where things stop. I'm a fan of nachos. Who doesn't like meat, cheese, and chips. I lived off poor man nachos (chips and cheese), for a long time, and still revisit that delicacy. Though these looked fantastic, the flavor was just...off. Or maybe it was lack of spices or even spice. If it wasn't for the hot sauce, they would have just been bland. I think instead of having chicken AND beef, there should be one or the other. Mostly because I think it was the chicken that contributed to the soggy bottom of nachos. There was just a lot of juice. Know what doesn't sound appealing for nachos? Juice. The taco, though healed in meat, had good flavor. However, I think because it was wrapped in its own little sarcophagus, if you didn't eat it right away, the wetness would begin to take over and the shell would become a soggy mess. It made eating it more difficult than a normal taco. Nacho flavor 4/10 Nacho appearance 10/10 (but you can't eat appearance, now can you?) Taco flavor 10/10 Taco sogginess 10/10 (a high sogginess rating for tacos is not good)

I love this place! I have been here twice now and will be sure to come back every time I'm in town! This visit we had absolute PERFECT service. I worked in restaurants for almost a decade so I don't give that compliment lightly. So wish I'd gotten our servers name. He was welcoming, attentive without interrupting, and welcomed questions about the menu. I couldn't decide between the enchiladas which I'd had before and the carne asade. Went with the carne asade per recommendation. You can see in the picture ..that presentation...wow! It was incredible. The only critique if only was that part of it was a little more done than I'd prefer, so consider asking for it a little less done. My dinner date got the burrito and loved it. You can see in the photo how huge it was! I don't drink alcohol but checked out the menu and their selection is incredible! Tons of unique drinks including a champagne margarita. The patio and view cannot be beat. When in Manistee you must give them a visit!

Came here right when the place opened, bathrooms were already out of paper and soap, pretty dirty honestly. Food was just ok. The huge burrito was enough to feed 3 people, flavor was good too, just don't think I'd order it again. The tacos, only the Al pastor was good, the rest of the meats were chewy and not too flavorful. Not sure I'd return, place felt dirty and not very welcoming

Pleasantly surprised!! Stopped in with my daughter and her two young kids for lunch on Sunday. Sat outside and the weather was beautiful. We asked the waiter who was so nice what the house specialty was and we took his advice. I had a chicken steak and shrimp dish over rice. My daughter had the shrimp and rice which had Avacado and lettuce. Served with corn tortillas! The food was large portions and seasoned perfectly. All three meats on my platter were amazing. The staff is delightful. I will come again and actually have friends get me take out to bring back to Frankfort when they stop there!! It is that good. Give it a try!!

Good quality food, solid drinks. It seems be more authentic than most Mexican spots up north. Go here instead of the place next door.

Never heard of paying for chips and salsa. It's posted at the door but they bring it to the table anyway.

As per usual, I forgot to snap a quick picture of lunch at TJ's today, so I'm hoping a good…read moredescriptive review will suffice! While looking for TJs in the downtown Manistee area, I commented how cool the historic exterior of the corner building was. Much to my pleasure, it turned out to be where we were heading. Walking up, several stories of crisp bricks greet you from the clean, quaint street. Walking in, you're hit with the casual, historic feel of an old building, with good smells wafting out of the back. The service was fast and friendly - we were seated within a minute, despite a pretty busy late lunch crowd. Our waitress checked on us multiple times through the meal, without being intrusive. A+ for this! We ordered chicken alfredo and the smoked Mac and cheese. Both came out of the over piping hot and fresh, loaded with cheese and sauce, and garnished with some fresh toasted baguette slices. The mac was topped with real bacon bits - none of the fake grocery store stuff. Portions were just right - I definitely could have eaten more, but I'm glad it wasn't there for me to gorge. TJ's is a great spot for lunch!

It had the standard toppings--avocado, corn, black bean, tomato, tortilla chips. But the cheese was melted on top, like a kind of crunchy/chewey plate--it really looked like it was topped with a mini pizza. Not sure that enhanced the salad, but overall it was fine. Instead of dressing, it came with tubs of sour cream and salsa to mix in. I do that at home sometimes, so can't complain. The lettuce was fresh and crispy. Decent beer selection, including a quite a few bottled ones, which I hadn't noticed until after I ordered my pint of Two Hearted. Be sure to ask for a bottle menu. I sat at the bar and the server regularly looked in on me. Wasn't too noisy, in spite of the tight space that was full when I stopped in on a Sunday night. Nice little spot to check out in Manistee.

After an uneventful meal and an initial bill that included items we did not order - Focaccia bread, soup, and tea from the table next to us (not known to us), we were falsely accused of "swearing" at the server and sabatoging a sandwich that was sent back (a grilled cheese sandwich that was smothered in what looked like tartar sauce). I was the first to be assaulted when I approached him as we were leaving to try and let him know that the $4 unsweetened tea we did not order was still on the bill, that we paid the bill anyway and we were leaving. I didn't even get one word out when he started yelling at me, getting within 18 inches of my face, spitting and screaming, using the F bomb repeatedly. Then he ran through the outdoor seating area filled with guests, confronting and yelling at each one of our party of four, pointing his finger in our faces and poking at one of us. His behavior was so loud and out of control, everyone in the place could see and hear his tirade. As we were leaving the outdoor seating area, he was screaming "pay your bill and get the F- out of here and don't ever F-ing come back...I'm calling the police...you'll be hearing from my lawyer..." and then he followed us out into the parking lot and seemed to enlist a staff member to write down our license plate number. It has taken me days to gather my thoughts to write this. None of us had ever experienced or witnessed such a display of nonsensical ranting and raving and downright rage by a business owner. As senior citizens in our seventies, we still don't know where the idea of swearing at the server came from or why we were subjected to such wrath in a dining establishment. Aside from the terrible sandwich, the bill mishap and the maniacal owner, the music was fun, the chicken wings were boring, the fish was good and the smelt was smelt.
