I had pretty much written off eating at Taco Casa because it has went the way of all the other fast food restaurants. But my friend at work kept telling me the one on Rice Mine Road was still good. So after leaving the dentist, I decided to try it. Here's the positives, the people at the registers were very friendly and readily offered to refill drinks. The radio was on the oldies channel. The taco shells were fresh. That pretty much does it does it for the positives. After being told it was the best of the chain in Tuscaloosa, and having to wait a considerable amount time considering that they weren't busy, I expected it to be good. I ordered 3 beef burritos and 2 tacos, all extra hot. The first bite into the burrito was nothing but tortilla and a hint of cheese. There was very little meat in the burrito. And to top it off, it was cold! The second and third were the same. You would have to be a porn star to bite off the end and get to the meat! They were horrible! I immediately thought of their commercial, " We consider this your kitchen and you're coming to eat in your kitchen ". Well, in my kitchen, the stove is on when I cook. I like my food to be hot. Also,I'm going to put meat in the burrito because tortillas and cheese doesn't qualify as a beef burrito. The sad thing is that I paid over 20 dollars for this crap. Horrible experience. Drive thru was wrapped around the building so decided to go inside to purchase my to-go order. After sitting there for a half hour in front of the counter, I stood up to check on the order since several people who ordered after me had already received their food, to only find out they lost my order. I overheard them say that there was a power failure glitch but not once did they offer an explanation so I asked for a refund. Someone in the back said that they were working on my order. There was no sense of urgency at all when they realized what happened. When they handed me my food, they did not offer an apology. I am a very understanding guy, and had they been genuinely concerned and apologetic, I would have been fine but no one there has had any customer service training. If you know, you know. This place is next to my parent's home in Tuscaloosa. To me, Taco Casa means I'm home. It's soo good and comforting and you know you're from Tuscaloosa if this is your favorite place to eat when you come home. Strangers don't get the fuss, but if you're observant you'll see that the ingredients are fresh, food is always made to order and the simple flavors are tasty. The tacos are always crunchy, with perfectly cooked savory beef, shredded lettuce that's crisp, finely shredded cheddar cheese and it's all topped off with perfectly ripe tomatoes and sauce that you choose: mild, hot or my favorite, extra hot cause I'm not a wimp. I love the chips, they're thin and salty. The cheese is gooey and never clumpy. It stays warm for a while. If you're gonna order an enchilada, order a side of chips because you'll need it. My sister's first job was here and all the ingredients are chopped, cooked and sorted in house. Not brought in bags and cans like the Bell. It's inexpensive as well. I've eaten here for 20 plus years (not this location, there are 5 around town) and it always tastes the same. Those who claim it tastes like Taco Bell are basically saying they don't know what quality tastes like. These are the same people who think a chick fila sandwich tastes like a McChicken! Pleeeeeaaasssee smh. You're silly if you're expecting "real" Mexican food here. Lolololol. It's fast food, goodness. There's a drive through and food is served on paper what were you expecting anyways?! Also if you don't like it, Taco Bell will gladly microwave, some beans in a can with some over processed dog food meat for ya! Stay there. Love this place. My first job was at the University Mall location. Only those from Tuscaloosa get it. I legit have cravings and will drive out to Lakeshore location to satisfy it (I live in BHM). The tacos are delicious and delightfully greasy. The chips and cheese sauce are comforting and familiar. The food has been consistently tasty for the thirty years I've been indulging (I started in the second grade)! It's always a must stop location for me when I visit home. read more

This is the worst Taco Casa. I seriously started thinking that I just hated Taco Casa now, but after eating at another location recently, I realized that it's just THIS Taco Casa that I don't like. Their burritos are dry. The beans in the burritos are practically inedible because they cook them way too long. They barely use any taco sauce in their burritos and tacos. They are dry and tasteless. On top of the poor food quality, the drive thru line is always incredibly slow in the evenings. It really should not take 5 minutes to complete each order at a fast food restaurant. You'd think that with the amount of time it takes for them to get the orders ready, the food would be great. That's not the case at this location. read more

The food here is great. My problem is with the service. They get my drink wrong, they give me beef instead of chicken, the drive thru line is ridiculously slow, as well as the inside service. The employees are usually unfriendly, and act as if they could care less. If the service matched the food quality, I'd give five stars, but something has to change. read more

I'm from California, so I know my Mexican food and eat it all the time. I was terrified to try this place based on the menu and pictures, so I went in with extremely low expectations. I have to say it was slightly better than I thought. My biggest complaint would be the HUUUUUGE puddles of grease on absolutely everything. Their sauce is really strange as well - the hottest is less spicy than regular tabasco and tastes way too vinegary. I'm not a Taco Bell fan at all, but would eat there over Taco Casa just based on the quality of the food (brown lettuce isn't my favorite). Food would be 0 stars if possible. That being said, the service was awesome. Total southern hospitality. They obviously cared about their customers much more than I'm used to. I've heard this place is loved by the locals, so maybe it's one of those "childhood comfort food" deals and/or there is no real Mexican food in Alabama. Very disappointed that the food quality has not come back up since covid. The flour tortillas taste different and do not make good chips and sopapia. The service is a lot slower. I was in the drive thru line for 25 minutes before ordering. I thought maybe they were short handed and I got to the window and there where 8 people back there working. Hope things can improve. 3rd time is the charm... after waiting 45 mins in the drive through .. which includes 20 mins at the window I got home with the wrong order (not a huge deal, mistakes are easy to make) I called and spoke to the guy running this poop show...was rude and didn't seem to care. Love this taco casa. Last time I was here I was right at closing, but they still let me order and were very kind. I love almost everything on the menu. This is a great ttown chain. This chain is a joke. It's like a nastier, redneck version of Taco Bell. I'm not sure how you can get more unappealing than Taco Bell but this place manages to do so. What I find most ridiculous is how much the locals love this place (I'm only living in the area temporarily, thank goodness); it was voted best restaurant in a recent "Munch Madness" contest. It's actually sad that people around here don't have the slightest idea what quality food tastes like. Personally, I avoid restaurants in this town all together and cook my meals at home, but if you insist on eating out, try Jalapeños down the road instead. I love Taco Casa but I try my best to AVOID this location. I always have an unnecessarily long wait at this location. Recently my mom and dad went to this location to eat inside, they were the only people in there due to the fact they had about an hour till close and waited 40 mins for 4 items off the menu. Workers here are not very friendly. I hate to be a snitch but come on now, this last time my boyfriend and I went we saw an employee (that I know by name) behind a car with a guy clearly doing a drug deal, they noticed my boyfriend and I were looking and they ran behind the dumpster to finish what they had started. So I called while in line and let them know what their employee was outside doing on his break in the CLEAR AS DAY parking lot for everyone to see, did we see anyone come out and handle it ? No we did not. I'm sure the owner would not be very happy to know this boy was doing this out in the parking lot and also couldn't rely on anyone to put a stop to it and not to mention this boy is putting a bad reputation on his business. As they say, one bad apple spoils the whole bunch. Sad to see that this Taco Casa is in such a nice part of town and has the worst reviews out of all the locations. Solid fast-mex. Whatever you order, order it "hot" or "extra hot". Gives it need kick but not nuclear. Kids love the chewy ice they have for fountain drinks as much (or more) than the food. Clean place. read more
