I went to a Whataburger in El Paso, Texas and was left the worst taste in my mouth (literally) and nearly swore them off altogether. While driving through Tuscaloosa on my way to New Orleans I decided to stop off and grab something to eat. I saw this location and made the decision to give them one more try. I'm happy I did. To think that the Whataburger in Alabama would be better than in Texas is insane to me...but it's also true. Large and clean inside and the employees I spoke to were all helpful and friendly. I got a double cheeseburger meal with fries and a drink and got the regular ketchup as well as their spicy ketchup for the fries. The first thoughts from the burger was that it was heavy on mustard. I personally enjoy mustard so that wasn't a big deal for me but if you don't...order it lite or on the side. I ended up dipping both the burger and the fries in the spicy ketchup by the end of it. I enjoyed the flavor of the spicy ketchup a lot but depending on your tolerance, you may not find it very spicy. I found it to have zero heat personally. The fries were crispy and tasty, definitely salted but not to the point that it was too much. They also had zero sugar lemonade and unsweetened iced tea so I was able to make a no sugar Arnold Palmer and that made me happy. I'd stop here again for sure. First, we were asked to look at menu after we were waiting, then the girl took the other lane when they pulled up after we were there. Okay, no big deal. There are two separate lanes in the drive-through. They are not supposed to merge after you order!!! The right hand lane is supposed to STAY on the right hand lane and the people come out to your car and wait on you taking your payment and bringing your food to your car directly. I made the mistake of doubling down on the meat, then adding sauce and mayo and pretty much every condiment they had and the result was a soggy mess. Perhaps I have to own that mistake, but they could have warned me before asking if I wanted all that sauciness, enabling such an error. The bun was unremarkable and did not stand up to the sauce. The tasted fine, cheese same, but I was expecting more as our friends from Texas just gush about how great it was, and how they miss it. It reminded me a lot of Fatburger only worse. Our first time here! The food was delicious and brought to our table. I am not exaggerating much when I say the burger was as big as my head! We were pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. And the spicy ketchup? Delicious! Fries were decent and they even gave us a free medium fries for the preggo wife. I don't even know how this place is still open. Ordered a bacon and cheese whataburger and 45 minutes later, STILL DIDN'T HAVE IT!! Never in my life have I waited that long for a sandwich. People tend not to recognize the importance of the appearance of a restaurant. That can literally make or break some restaurants as much as the food can. Whatsaburger, local to southern United States, has a really cool, unique, interior. Very orange and clean. Really strong interior design. The food is good too - it just takes a while to get it! Took over twenty minutes to get my food - not fast food but faster then steak n'steak (and better tasting too). And I ordered a double burger but only got one patty! Have to agree with some of the views, however after all its fast food. Overall the food is good and there is evidence of people trying to get it right. A lot of the staff is younger and cellphones are out and it's not helping the cause. If there is a line wait times are up, also it can take some time to have it brought to your table if they are under staffed. The only reason I keep coming back to this location is for the breakfast potato taquito on my way to work. But be prepared to wait in the drive thru for at least 15 minutes. If you can help it, order in the store because ordering in the drive thru is a nightmare. The speakers are broken more often than not and when they do work they don't take your order at all. The burgers are dry and tasteless and they put way too much mustard on them. They also claim to be 24/7 but had to shut down for "technical reasons" recently.
