i came thought the second lane drive thru late night, around 12 and the lady at the speaker was so rude!! she had an attitude with me and messed up my order and was rushing me. She had no common courtesy whatsoever. When i got my food i politely asked the lady if she could fix my order for me and she gave me a stank look and slammed the window on me. This is unacceptable! people who act like this should not be working customer service. Everyone that has taken my order before was so nice and helpful and the food is great and cheap. I dig Cook Out. Apparently so does every other Bama student. Especially at 2am. In fact, nothing speaks to a University's love for marijuana more than a campus-wide munchie invasion of the local burger spot in the middle of the night. Students at these late night hours resemble the staggering zombies from The Walking Dead except they're giggling uncontrollably and have larger appetites. Most prefer the Cookout Tray which delivers a double cheeseburger with onion rings and cheese curds with a fountain drink for $7.50. Add $1.50 and you got yourself a milkshake upgrade which is a great deal once you realize Cook Out has the best shakes around. Sure there's 400 cars crammed into the parking lot and drive thru and it smells like Reefer Madness, but when you're jonesing for a post THC fix, Cook Out is the spot. read more

I visited Cook Out often as a college student when this location first opened. Moved away and a few years later I'm back in town visiting again. Somehow ended up at Cook Out twice in one weekend and it lived up to everything I remember. Is this place the best food ever or speediest or highest customer service? No. But it's more than worth the value - especially when ordering a Cook Out tray. The milkshakes remain amazing (personal favorite is the peanut butter Oreo). I also like their hush puppies, corndogs, cheeseburgers, and cajun fries too. You'll see a lot of groups, especially of college students, at any point throughout the evening/night. It can get loud and the parking lot crowded. The drive thru line can get long but they keep it moving (there's 2 lanes). read more

I was in Tuscaloosa for work today and decided to stop by Cook Out for lunch. There isn't one in Birmingham but there should be one coming soon off of Lakeshore Drive. I ordered a regular bbq sandwich and large sweet tea. There was plenty of meat on the sandwich along with cole slaw and bbq sauce. It was a perfect combination of flavors. A little sweet and a little spice. The sandwich was really good. The burgers and milkshakes are good as well. The burgers are homestyle patties with a fresh off the grill taste. Very disappointed with this franchise. The Tuscaloosa Cookout, I'm sure in conjunction with the other Cookout locations, do NOT have root beer. They do, however, have Cheerwine, which is the reasoning for the 3 stars instead of 1. This is one of few, if not the only, place in Tuscaloosa with Cheerwine. This was my first time at a cookout and I'd have to say that the food was not as great as my North Carolina friend hyped it up to be, but the service in this Tuscaloosa location was amazing. 3.5 for food and 4.5 for service. The manager was at the cash register and personally offered his favorite milkshake flavors (light vs heavy) and was super friendly and helpful. He even bought his own soap for the bathroom sinks. (Special ones that kind of smelled like cologne lol) I ordered the tray which is a great combo deal, one main, two sides, and a milkshake add on for $1 (normally $3). I got a dressed burger, onion rings and hush puppies as sides, and a banana pineapple milkshake. What a thick delicious milkshake! Recommend if you're looking for something lighter and fruity. The meal was filling and satisfying, and I liked having the option of sitting inside or on the spacious outside patio. Wonderful stop for road trips passing through Tuscaloosa, although I wouldn't say it's my go to fast food now. read more

The one fun thing about the menu is it resembles items from a backyard cook out. All items are priced fairly and 3 can dine for under $25. Let me start by saying it is a hit or miss at this restaurant. Having young teenagers doing this 90-nothing work is not the greatest method. After that I got our shakes and headed back to the car. It took another 30 minutes to get out of the parking lot. This lot is huge, but the drive thru was designed extremely poorly. Two lane drive thru, with slim and narrow lanes wrapping around the entire lot. It blocked us in for half an hour. Bianca let me just say though is an absolute delight. Went inside. 3 customers, and I stood at the front to place my order. 4 employees working (that I saw). They all saw me. Nobody said a word. I waited for 5 minutes and left. I will only go here for the milkshakes. You can double up on flavors which I frequently do and I think they have the best in town. The fries are always too soggy and the burger patties are super small. The quesadillas are good when hot and so are the nuggets. Line is incredibly long after 10pm but empty throughout the day before that. You'll be waiting a while if you go between 10 and 1 at night. read more

My food was hot, fresh, correct and the staff was extremely nice. Didn't visit the facilities but otherwise it was a great place.

Fries were cold, my and my wife's cup both had a hole in the bottom, which slowly dripped into the cupholder and nearly filled it up. Chicken fingers were oddly shaped and had a lot of undercooked batter in them. It seemed as if maybe they were frozen, unthawed nearly all the way, were refrozen then cooked. The chicken was done, the breading was crispy on the outside. There just were so many layers of it, which was mushy. The walking taco was good, but it was missing from the bag so I had to walk in and get it. Out of 3 chicken fingers, 1/2 of 1, was worth eating. They also were cold. This visit just was way off. I have been here nearly 100 times and this visit tonight was just not like any of the others. We love Cook Out but we were disappointed today. First off, the "fancy" shakes. Now this completely depends on the flavor I guess, but for a place with 44 "fantastic" flavors, multiple are not even good. I got a vanilla and I thought it was great besides the cheap straws. My friend however got a peanut butter shake that she described as "aughhh ." She spent 3.69 on a shake that made her throw up multiple times, and had multiple chunks in it. It was not good and made her sick. Second off, the food. I have tried the fries and will never. ever. eat. their. food. again. Tonight, my friend got cheese curds. They were absolutely horrible. They were crusty and tasted expired. They tasted like a little disgusting expired grilled cheeses. They were fed to my dogs and the garbage. My friend described them "tasting better in the garbage". It was NOT good Third off and finally, the service and place. Theirs music playing till 4:30 am as loud as possible (trust me I know I'm staying nearby). The servers arent even nice. The last 3 times I have brought my family here, I have been given THE ABSOLUTE most rude, rushed, and HATEFUL service I have EVER received at a quick service restaurant.
