Moved from LA to DC a couple years ago and have been looking for a good taco spot ever since. I couldn't be more excited that Taco City is in the neighborhood! We got 6 tacos and a soda for ~$20. I never knew Brussels sprouts on a taco could be so good! It's unreal. Even I couldn't make tacos that good. I've never had churros with chocolate sauce. I couldn't live without it. Excellent new addition to the southern end of Barrack Row on 8th Street. Taco City has been opened for three weeks and presents authentic Mexican food. The tacos were filled with good portions of meat/fish (or vegetables) and garnishes. Atmosphere is relaxed with good music. I will return often. read more

This place was terrible. First it was so cold inside you had to wear your jacket and the tacos were honestly gross, Luke warm and lacking in flavor. Maybe I'm used to south Texas tacos where you get the real deal. read more

Absolutely love this place. I have been going once a month for more than year. The food and service are top-notch. Authentic tacos in a great cantina like ambiance. Margaritas are made with fresh squeezed lime juice. All the tacos are yummy. My all time fave, especially in winter, is the pozole the perfect blend of tart, spicy and hearty goodness. That all being said the tacos (shrimp and mahi mahi) were good (I wouldn't say something I would run back to get ASAP.) My lower stars are due to the prices. $8 for Mexican corn and the amount you get (a cup) is crazy (although it was yummy). Also appetizers and small plates in general were overpriced. This place serves some of the best tacos I've ever had. Be aware, it's authentic Mexican, not Tex-Mex...so just go in ready for that. The restaurant itself is clean, bright, and well decorated. The waiters/owners seem to all be related and they were the absolute kindest people. Seriously, so nice. We had a few different types of tacos but I'd recommend the shredded chicken one! Taco City has been a neighborhood favorite of ours for a while - and now even more so. We ordered carry out on Friday, and there was a mix up and the margaritas didn't make it. Francisco, the restaurant's owner, insisted on driving them over to us. I told him not to worry about it, that we would get them next time, but he was adamant that it was Friday and we should have margaritas - and even threw in an extra. Thanks to a positive review in the Hill Rag I tried this newcomer to the Capital Hill/ Barracks Row area and I was not disappointed! Spotless & cozy with a warm & welcoming staff. And the food is such a revelation if your used to eating Tex Mex or Frontera ( like San Diego/Tijuana) food. The pozole rojo Soup, beef sandwich & tres leches cake were made with top quality ingredients & care.
