I was here about 20 years ago, but on this newest trip to the place, it looks nice,…read morerustic.........sat down at a table (not part of the lounge), we had a almost 2 year old with us and 3 adults and a youth. No one was in our area when we arrived, the waitress was nice and friendly...........she asked for our drinks and gave us time to read the menu, I notice an ant crawling on the table, but it didn't gross me out so much, as we were almost willing to eat outside, but didn't. Not to long after we ordered, another family walked in and sat at a table near us. We noticed a manager looking guy coming out to greet the family, when they came in and they had the same waitress as us, but Mr.manager never came to say Hi to us., I didn't want to think racist...but that man never talked to us, only when it came to give us our food. And when the food (appetizers) came it was alright, until the nachos got to us, we asked for oaxaca cheese nachos but looked like we just got cheddar, (we thought, maybe because we look native...we wouldn't be able to tell the difference or complain (because most native people don't speak up), also they came burnt to hell, my boy said it tasted like eating charcoal but we were too hungry to complain, but I did metion to the waitress, "looks like the wrong cheese", she just told me "they must have used a cheese blend", which would be fine but we ordered the oaxaca cheese nachos and oaxaca cheese is white (maybe I read it wrong.) As we ate the burnt nachos, that had the wrong cheese from what we ordered, our main meals came out. And they looked ok, but as we ate my brother almost choked on some metal scrub ball for washing dishes (small pieces of it), he thought it was his main dish, but then my boy said while eating the nachos he felt something sharp go down his throat, he thought it was a sharp chip, but when he thought back and saw what my brother had found, he thought it was most likely the scrub ball. I'm just thankful that the baby just wanted the plain chips! (don't even want to think about if the baby had gotten the wire scrub and ate it.) After that, I got so freakin grossed out and when the waitress said "are we not getting dessert". Yuck, heck no! Check please!,(is what I thought,) and they are lucky we paid them at ALL! They probably thought we wouldn't notice the difference in the cheese and re-heated an old order, that wasn't sold (that's why it came back almost black and with the wrong cheese) but jokes on them, I'm half mexican, so I know exactly what oaxaca cheese looks like. I'm so disgusted with this place, its only good if your white or drinking booze, this place is crap for food and hospitality. I give every place I go to a fair chance, but that was garbage and I'm never ever going to that place again. It was so crap, this is my first ever post of a review for anyplace. And I've been to crap places but it's like people just don't care about people anymore. Zero stars for kitchen staff and 2 stars for waitress, she didn't even really know the menu and had to keep going to the kitchen to ask questions. Just all around disappointing experience.

Slow service, food was much different quality previously...margaritas were up to standard and that…read moreat least was appealing

This place use to be so good but has really dropped off. The owner was always at the Portage Ave…read moresite and he was great to deal with. Now the staff limits the items for the burritos. I went there twice to give them a chance but they blew it. The meat is VERY limited compared to what it was. I get that they weigh it, but obviously the amount allowed has dropped. They skimp on toppings. Time to try new mexican restaurants. It is too bad because the owner was awesom.

It is unavoidable, if a restaurant wants to remain in business, they need to do one or the other. In order to ensure that we're still getting a reasonable amount of protein in our meals at Burrito Splendido we started paying for "double meat", but they've reduced their portions so much that even paying an additional $3.50 gets you practically no protein. It's gotten to the point where they're clearly taking advantage of their customers. We will no longer be supporting Burrito Splendido, which is a real shame because we ate there 2-3 times a week for years because we really appreciate that they use all locally sourced ingredients. I tried to include a picture of a beef quesadillas with "double meat"., but it unfortunately won't upload because. To give you an idea, each triangle of quesedilla had no more than five small shreds of beef.

3.5 stars A popular…read moreMexican restaurant in Osbourne Village, plenty of seating inside/outside. Got what all the reviews raved above: a shrimp taco and a chicken taco ($7). There was just one guy assembling all the orders while the others were at the cash register or in the back prepping. Not quite fast food. The shrimps were plump and juicy, while the chicken was flavourful but dry. The tacos are really stuffed to the brim which seems appealing, but in the end was not fantastic as everything exploded out of the tortilla. The chips with salsa isn't too bad of a deal, nice that it came with two salsas. The chips were crispy and toasted, but the ones at the bottom became soggified.

I love my burrito bowls, so it was no surprise that I ended up ordering their naked burrito…read more My naked burrito was piled high, which I loved. No one likes to be skimped out on their food. They have a range of meat to choose from, including the typical carnitas (slow braised pulled pork), pollo achiote (marinated roasted chicken), camarones (sauteed chile lime shrimp), and barbacoa (slow-cooked beef braised in ancho chipotle adobo sauce), which I ended up getting. It also comes with mexican rice, the choice of either black or refried pinto beans (I got the black beans, because I prefer to have the beans whole), cheese, and salsa. I also added lettuce, corn, sour cream, green onions, lime juice, and their hottest sauce, plus one other sauce I forgot the name of. Since it was piled so high, it was somewhat difficult to mix everything up. Overall, it was really delicious, and I enjoyed the barbacoa. It was a lot saucier than I wanted, but I guess that is to be expected, since I did have sour cream and other sauces in it.
