This Taco John's is fairly new. It takes over from DQ, which I never frequented. It always looked closed whenever I passed by it. A few Tuesday ago, I went to see a movie. I was hungry afterwards. As I drove back to the hotel, I remembered this Taco John's and decided to try it out. I heard about Taco John's on The Jason Show several months ago. I saw segments on how various items are made and was intrigued. It was roughly 9:15 pm when I had arrived at the drive-thru. The place closes at 10 pm each night. I was thankful to be in at the drive-thru with a bit of a lineup. I didn't want a huge meal. When I got to the order area, I had a helpful woman guide me through the various parts of my combo. I got the two softshell tacos combo. By default, the tacos are beef. You can also get chicken. It comes with a small drink and potato olés. I got a Diet Pepsi as my drink. She asked me if I wanted any dipping sauces. I passed. The wait wasn't all that long. When I got to the window, I handed my credit card to the woman. The transaction went through fine. I got my drink first, followed by my food. I thanked the woman and left. What's interesting about Taco John's is that they have interesting processes when it comes to handing over food and drinks to customers. When a customer has paid for a drink, the drink must be handed to the customer with the receipt. This action did happen to me. Another fun process rule is that you only get one napkin for each item in your order, minus the drink. So, I got three napkins. You can break this rule by asking for more napkins. Some people are messy eaters or are klutzy. Yes, I speak from experience. I got back to the hotel room to eat. I had to have a few potato olés first. OMG! They were so good. Each one had a mashed potato-like interior with a tater tot exterior. What?! I was so blown away by how yummy each one was. I absolutely loved them. Olé! My softshell tacos were delicious. The beef was flavourful. The ingredients were fresh. By default, it comes with mild sauce. You can ask for hot sauce if you want some heat. The softshells weren't soggy and held up well. My Diet Pepsi hit the spot. I needed it to wash everything down. The beverage menu also had cold-brewed coffee. I didn't want to drink coffee at night, but I'll need to give it a shot (pun intended) to see what it tastes like. I had a wonderful first experience at a Taco John's. A change from Taco Bell was nice. Both are fairly close to each other, but the potato olés are making me a Taco John's fan now. I'll be back. If you want to order from them, go ahead and invest your time and they'll cancel your order because they didn't know if they'd be open or closed because they're silly in a way you appreciate a kindergarten kid but not a grown ass adult working for a company being silly. I would like to say we ordered 17 tacos and received 16. Then we did not receive 2 orders of potato oles. No where on app to claim an issue and when we tried to call the store, no answer then hung up on. Needless to say T-bell for life. read more

The only thing I really like there is the potato ole bowl. If you're craving a hard shell Taco go on Tuesday. They are like $1.29. They used to be only a dollar like a year ago. The Pico de gallo used to be free For a long time. Than it just went up to like $0.59. reasonable. Two weeks later It's like a $1.50. unreasonable. Everything's pretty expensive overpriced. The taco bravos are Not that good or anything special. It's kind of like a double decker Taco, but it just doesn't really even taste that good. It's just a lot of mushy bland. The biggest thing about the Taco bravo is it's a terrible Ripoff. It's a $1.29 Tuesday Taco with a spattering bean sauce and then they put an extra soft shell that must cost like maybe $0.10 around it. But they charge you $3 more? For $3 more it should have tomatoes and sour cream and a side of oles They haven't had offers much lately. The combos are all Like $8 to $10 and that's way too expensive. If it's a combo, each thing should be like a buck. Should be $4 or $5 at most. $5.99 combo on the app at Taco Bell gets you premium main items + a burrito and side and a drink. But once in awhile they do a crazy offer they'll give you like a whole combo for free. How about just give me $2 or $3 off that potato ole bowl? It's basically like a nachos with potato oles. OMFG!! I was in town for a short visit from Texas. I just wanted a quick bite and didn't expect it to be good. I was thinking Taco Bell or similar garbage. I ordered just regular beef tacos, they tasted bad like they were filled with saw dust. Maybe it's a Minnesota thing. Food is a bit different there but it wasn't good for me. read more

I used to love Taco Johns, but something has changed in the last 6 months or so. Now the flavors are substandard -- it doesn't taste any better than Taco Bell. The sauce packs are runny and flavorless and the meat has that "off" taste that I always associated with Taco Bell. My last several visits (different days/locations have been disappointing. Did they change leadership or suppliers or something -- the degradation of quality is significant and wasn't tied to just one location or visit. Over the weekend, the food quality/safety took another nosedive, and we actually had to toss our order from the Eagan location in the trash after narrowly avoiding what could have been serious mouth/throat problems due to some type of sharp foreign object (almost looked like part of a cactus or thorn) that I barely avoided swallowing. I've been a hardcore Taco Johns fan and advocate for 30 years (and my kids for 10) we aren't going back. read more

Had a bizarre craving for Potato Oles. Waited forever in the drive thru line to eventually get my small little pot of fried taters. The first few bites hit the spot. Hot, crispy, fresh out of the frier. But these lost their luster quickly and after a few more a few minutes later, I felt like I was eating just straight grease nuggets. I couldn't finish them and regretted the ones I ate as I developed heartburn and a tummy ache. Lesson learned. Don't listen to that passing craving. read more

Our First time trying their food and the last. Went into the store to order for takeout so it can't be blamed on a miscue at the drive through. Ordered 4 crispy tacos and a small potato oles. Got home to discover we had 4 soft shell tacos with very little ingredients in them and wrapped so badly that the beef was spilled out in the wrapper. The potato oles were so salty and completely inedible! Can't be blamed on it being busy either as there were only 2 customers in the store before me and nobody at the drive through. The whole meal was complete garbage that we ended up throwing out. read more

This is a new establishment here and it's trying to keep up. We took fried chicken taco, chicken quesadilla and steak & potato griller. We took in drive thru and they did take time to get us the order. It's new so they are taking there time. May be they will get on track faster. Food was good and little costly than the Taco Bell I felt. they have different menu options to choose from. And it takes time to read all of them as it's new menu for it. read more

Taco John's is one of my favorite fast food restaurants and I was supremely excited to see we were getting one in Eagan, as the Rosemount location is a little far to go for a quick bite in a lot of cases. The excitement ended when I started eating there though. Three visits now have yielded consistently terrible results. All three times they have shorted us on our order. The first two times, we were missing orders of potato ole's. This last time it was a meat and potato burrito. All three times, the potato ole's were terribly oversalted. To the point of being inedible. And when you try to call and reconcile the situation, nobody answers the phone. Enough is enough. The eagan location is an absolute dumpster fire. The management is obviously clueless and doesn't train their staff or have any systems in place to monitor quality. I'll happily go back to Rosemount for my TJ's fix from now on. read more

Eagan taco johns is scamming its customers and has been for at least the last two weeks. We went into taco johns this evening and we're extremely surprised to find out that we were charged $40 for our $20 order. management has confirmed they've known about it and claim that they're "in the process of fixing it" while the owner of this establishment continues to steal money from its customers. This store needs to be shut down until they're done scamming customers because this is fraudulent and completely unacceptable. read more

Every time I come here it take 20 mins to get through the drive through... WHY? And that when I'm the only car there mind you. Not to mention it like no one knows what they are doing at all ? People standing around with no hustle at all. They always OVER COOK the potatoes mind you this is always the evening shift ..... I don't think they understand that when you overcook potatoes, they tend to turn hard, so when you buy potato's from taco John's in Eagan they always end up being very hard I don't know what's going on with the evening shift but man oh man, it seems like no one knows what's going on. The only thing that impressed me here was that they have a drive thru, where other taco places in the area do not. The tacos are basically just meat and lettuce, with the number of cheese strands looking like less than 10 per taco. The drive thru was slow and the person taking the order either scoffed at questions or didn't know how to answer them. I got my food but just wasn't impressed overall. read more

Just don't. You can do much better elsewhere for the money. These guys aren't particularly cheap and I can't say that I've received a single item of quality from them ever (I want to like Taco John's, I really do. The food in their ads looks phenomenal). I wish I had taken a picture of the food that I received, but I was so mad that I just slammed it in the trash. The potatoes were stale, the tacos were weren't even palatable, and the chicken was all breading, no chicken. They do have great potential, though! The seasoning on the potatoes was zesty, tasty, and balanced. If they cared about quality, even just a little, they could probably manage to compete with other fast food joints. read more
