It was warm inside, didn't feel much AC in there. We had the carne asada torta on baked fresh daily torta bread. It was messy eat but it was good. Chile relleno was made fresh to order. Lots of cheese but it wasn't melted in the middle. Not the best but definitely not the worst. We also had the menudo soup had a nice rich broth perfect for a hang over. We also tried carne asada and steak tacos both very good. Overall good food but needed some more seasoning. Next visit will try the whole fried tilapia. read more

This place is amazing! Ample parking and great location. Quick friendly no frills service. Extensive very real Mexican menu and then some! There is something for everyone. The flavors are very authentic. If you love many of the taco choices, they sell meats by the pound. Many of the taco flavors have a choice of a full plate and you get tortillas and stuff. Kind of a make your own tacos kit. Note the place is not pristine clean, but in general it is very clean. Maybe us patrons could help keep it clean of we pick up what we drop. My one and only experience here was very good. It wasn't that busy, but I ate a very early dinner right after work around 4, so no surprise there. The staff was very nice and patient since I'm generally pretty slow and picky about what I want. I eventually decided on the Plato de Lengua (beef tongue platter, served with salad, rice, beans and corn tortillas). It was superb. I have no complaints other than the cleanliness of the area was a bit off-putting and I think mostly due to how there is the mercado attached to it, which seems like a common issue with similar places - I think they spread themselves too thin trying to accomodate both sides and would be better off separated. read more

A friend recommended this place. I stopped in and they recommended the burrito bowl. I ordered the carnitas bowl. It cost over $9 bucks and was fairly small. The worst part was it was like drinking straight salt. The service was ok but not friendly and the place was dirty. Wish I took a picture but there was a stand with meat open to everyone. I feel gross after being in there and tasting a salt lick. I returned to try the taco because a friend said they were good. The carnitas taco were decent and very good price. It was delicious. I was starving and found this place through Yelp on the fly. Online order was completed early. Had a total of 9 tacos, 3 each of a different type. I would just say that the meat had that dryness/crunchiness; like when you need to stir it because it got hard on top from sitting; but it didn't stop me from woofing it down. I ordered six different types of tacos and the three of us (husband and a kid) found them overall gristly and unflavorful. Today was my first time ordering take out from this taqueria. I ordered six tacos, Al Pastor torta and the beef soup. The carne asada was my favorite taco meat and my husband loved the Al Pastor. The Al Pastor torta was fresh, tasty, the bread was toasted. It was all delicious. The green and red hot sauce were really good , I preferred the green. We got so full we haven't tried the soup yet. For three years I lived near this taqueria and only today I got around visiting this place. I wish I would have visited sooner. If you are unsure about this taqueria, I highly recommend. The chef was nice and gave us some green salsa that he said was mild. So then he gave us a little thing of a thicker green salsa, which was a lot hotter. It was great! The chips themselves were just ok. Nothing to rave about. Not as good of chips as what buritto mercado makes in st. paul. tried the churro. great! I live close to Taqueria Hidalgo, and it's become my first choice for something I can pickup quickly and take home when I'm not willing to cook. I appreciate the "authentic" flare that it has, but that doesn't come from trying to be authentic either...it just happens. I was at first confused by the menu because it was heavily written in spanish, but that has improved in recent visits with an updated menu board. Because of that early confusion, I would order the various tacos fillings that they have available, which was probably a blessing in disguise. You simply can't go wrong with the chorizo or al pastor tacos, although the carnitas and beef will do just fine as well. In contrast to other fast food tacos, these aren't loaded with toppings that really just make you feel like you're getting a lot. The tacos have plenty of meat As has been mentioned previously, they can earn themselves a higher score (and reputation) by taking a little better care for their space and keeping on top of cleanliness. Granted, some of my visits are after the peak dinner hour, so they may have gotten a little lazy at that time of the night, but if that's when I'm there, I expect to get the same caliber service as someone who stops by at 7:00. read more
