Management is KILLING this location (Marshalltown). They are the only place in town that can't keep the dining area open. That means on my lunch break I have to take my food back to my place of work and eat it COLD. Also drive through makes more mistakes than the counter. I pay for stuff I never get. I have to work an HOUR to cover the cost of lunch at Taco Johns so when they screw it up I'm angry. Today they were out of Dr Pepper so I had to get Pepsi. I paid for it and threw it away, I can't drink that BS. So that means I have to swing through Walgreens and buy a Dr Pepper on top of everything else. People are getting FED UP. I order a burrito with EXTRA cheese and a end up getting one with NO cheese. The manager cannot keep quality people and has lost many long time employees, which means they are losing long time customers. Half of this office has already said "never again." read more

this place was horrible. Order a quesadilla only got cheese on it. Ordered tacos with steak. Got chicken or drinks were 3/4 of the way full and they were disrespectful flow. No good do not recommend this place is worthless. read more

So, I thought I'd give Taco John's another shot. Never again. What used to be a "go to" for food in town really needs to be closed permanently OR placed under new management with an all new staff. I went with my sister and we literally stood at the counter and watched 6 employees ignore us. Sure two were working on orders for drive-thru but the other 4? Doing nothing. My sister asked if we were ever going to be waited on which went ignored. After waiting for 4 minutes, unacknowledged further, we walked out. I would encourage everyone to avoid this place. As I mentioned before, the quality of food and clearly the level of service has tanked under the current ownership/management. What a shame. read more

This Taco John's opens at 7 am. They don't have a breakfast menu or anything, they just do a brisk trade in tacos and potato oles at seven in the morning. Come on, Marshalltown, you're better than that. If you're NOT here before the sun rises, it's pretty alright, as Taco John's go. Being "a pretty good Taco John's" is kind of like being the youngest horse at the glue factory, but still. Sometimes the moral victories are the only ones we have in life. The seats here look new. I'd imagine this place was remodeled recently. It's nice. I don't mind sitting here, if I have to sit anywhere, giving myself deliberate gastrointestinal distress. Potato Oles are the best, worst thing you can put into your body. They are spectacularly salty, almost always over done, usually dry, and you can't stop shoving them into your stupid, senseless gob. If your in Marshalltown, need food, and have a flexible relationship with your own self worth, Taco John's is as good a choice as any, I guess. Just, come on. Don't get here at 7 am. read more

Taco John's is a Midwestern alternative to Taco Bell, and I think it's generally better. But the Marshalltown Taco John's is the king of all Taco John's. It's the largest in the chain, and it's so much better than any of the others. The menu is bigger, and they absolutely stuff the tacos and burritos with meat and fillings. They also have the best fries I've ever had anywhere. Any time of the day or night, every day, this place is packed, and there's a reason for that. read more

They say this is the best TJ's around. I can say the parking lot is completely screwed up. Beyond that the inside has been remodeled and is clean and nice. Stopped in this morning at 7;30 and ordered the chicken gravy biscuit. HELLO new favorite. The kitchen staff is right there in front of you and they were all friendly and helpful. I got my burrito to go and about 15 minutes down the road I dug in. It was hot and fresh and delish. I would order it again that is for sure. This is not meant to be 'authentic' mexican food. So if you are looking for that go uptown to the little place in the parking lot. Hard to find but authentic. TJ's is TJ's. And for the record, I LOVE their potato oles. Yes please! read more

I don't know what it is about the Taco John's in Marshalltown but they are just a step above every other Taco John's I have been to in the state. There is just something distinct about the flavor here compared to it's other franchise brethren in other central Iowa towns. I don't usually review fast food joints, and if I do I'm rarely saying anything good about them, but this place is different. read more

I've been eating authentic street tacos for three decades starting in Tijuana, Mexico. I was very excited to hear that Taco John's had them on their menu as street tacos are hard to find here in Midwest unless you are lucky enough to find a taco food truck. I saw them on their menu as three for $5.35 so I ordered three. The counter person asked if I'd like shredded beef, steak, or some other meat. I asked for steak and she rang it up at over $7. When I asked her about this, she said steak tacos were more. I order the shredded beef. The tortillas were cold, each taco had lettuce (which a true street taco does not have), a bit of soupy shredded beef, and some shredded tomato and onion. If you like street tacos like your grandma would probably make then you'll probably like these. If you like authentic street tacos, don't waste your money. Someone from Taco John's needs to go out and have a real street. I won't be eating at Taco John's anytime soon. This was not a street taco. read more

Great place, probably the best Taco Johns anywhere. I have driven from Virginia to Athens, Ohio JUST for Taco Johns! Yes, really. More than once. TJ's is the bomb! Comparing Taco Johns to taco bell is like comparing an orgasm to being stabbed in the liver. No comparison. Taco Johns must be very good at keeping their stores up to par. Never been to a shabby one but M'towns is the best for sure. The french fries deserve special mention, excellent! Thin, crispy with a flavor that must come with using a fryer that also cooks some of the mexican food. Don't confuse that with spicy fries or some silly thing. It just gives them a special "something". Like the previous post said the food is always chock full, not some half filled taco shell. Have been here so many times I can't even count and it's always spot on. Even the staff is nice and friendly. For you skeptics, I am just a regular guy customer, no agenda except to find great food.
