Taco Mama is a staple of the Florence community. Consistent, reliable Mexican food that is always a bang for its buck. Last time I ate here, I got a quesadilla. With all orders, you do get free chips, which is nice. It also comes fast as you order up front and then sit down. Wishing 5 minutes or so your food should be ready, unless it's super busy. The reason I didn't rate 5 stars was because of their sides, they are very hit or miss, and are almost always too small.The Mexican Mac and Cheese was alright, but nothing special. Don't order the Street Corn though, it's doused in mayo and cheese, which leaves little room for the corn itself. Almost anything else from the menu is good though, all of their specials have been delicious. My go to is always the quesadilla, as the flavors blend harmoniously, with the cheese being rich and savory, complemented by a multitude of fillings like grilled chicken, sautéed vegetables, or spicy peppers. Delicious fish tacos tonight with grilled flounder! The chips were light and crispy, salsa mildly spicy, and the vegetarian black beans were also delicious! There is a huge menu and some quite fancy margaritas available as well! The Florence location is not as generous with her portions as the other locations I've been to, but the other locations give you so much food you can't eat it all. The home made salsa falls short. Needs more chunky raw onion and less puréed tomatoes. Employees very friendly. Tip people! These people give great service and deserve your appreciation. They even clean your table. Unlike the other guy who complained about this steak tacos, I think they're very generous with the amount of tenderloin they give you for the price they're charging you and it's real tenderloin and it is very tender. Overall, my first experience with Taco Mama was good. I had the pulled pork tacos with lots of free ingredients and they were yummy. Chips and queso, A+. The chips were thin and crispy which I really love. The menu has a good variety of taco options and they have fresh fish available if you're looking for a good fish taco. The concept of their business is different, being that you walk in and place your order, have a seat, and they bring your food to your table when ready. The big garage doors roll up to allow the breeze through the restaurant which was nice. They have an outdoor patio and do allow pets on the patio. While the atmosphere, in the restaurant and on their outside patio is great there are too many negatives for me to rate it that highly. First of all Street only parking may be sufficient but it's not very favorable for Handicapped patrons who will find it potentially very difficult to dine there and as it is now there are no specifically designated handicapped parking available within decent walking to the front door. Second it is a popular place, at least right after opening, as many try it out and while trendy is nice their ordering system often makes for a long wait to order. When there is a line, which is often, it can take a while for you to get to one of the two registers to place your order and then seating is table only, no booths, and at times seating is difficult to find due to many of the tables are 6 seating tables with fewer 4 top and 2 person tables available. All that is second though to the main product, the food. First the good (or best) and that is that Taco Mama, hands down, has the best chips and salsa of any of the Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants in the Florence area. Usually I find that the regular salsa offered at many places is either too spicy but at Taco Mama it's totally mild and if you want to spice it up there are spices at your table you can add. The chips are the thin style and I prefer them. That's where my compliments end though. I've eaten both the meat (3 types, ground beef, a roast type beef, and tenderloin) tacos and the chicken tacos. To me their chicken and the meat are totally bland. It is not to say that they are not good but rather there is hardly any hint of spice on the meat. The ground beef, to me, is their best meat taco followed by the Barbacoa which reminds me of a "pot roast" taco with the tenderloin bringing up the rear. The Chicken taco was very good but, again, lacked spices and was very bland tasting. There was no comparison to say Rosie's Cantina (also Downtown Florence) for the beef or no comparison to Taco Garage with the Chicken Tacos. I was also not impressed with the quality of their Rice but Taco Mama does offer several sides in addition to rice and beans. Overall I'm not impressed with Taco Mama at all and most has to do with the bland taste of their meats. Their Chips and Salsa or Queso is first rate and very good and if you like ambience or being trendy then this is your place, right next to the Singing River Brewery. So if you are out for trendy and quaint then Taco Mama will be a hit with you, once you are able to locate it because it is kind of out of the way and you have to be looking for it to find it. If you are handicapped then you are not going to be happy but maybe your driver can drop you off at the door but with no ramped access, except at the end of the street to the sidewalk, you may have a bit to walk. Street Parking so far hasn't seemed to be a detriment with business but, to me, it will one day become more of a problem compared to places like Rosie's Mexican Cantina and Taco Garage which is the most similar concept restaurant in Florence. I've tried to give Taco Mama as complete a chance as possible having gone back at least five different times as I wanted to try most all of their taco offerings. Anymore, after trying them, I have to say that Taco Garage has the best Chicken and Rosies the best steak offerings out there. The Ground Beef tacos is the best taco, in my mind, that Taco Mama offers with possibly the Pork taco being a close second. Sorry but I'm not that much a fan because I don't usually choose where to eat based upon trendy or atmosphere but rather taste of their main product which, usually, is the food offered. I guess I just prefer a little more spice/taste in my meats so for me Taco Mama is a good place but not a great one and, in my mind, not worth going out of your way for. read more

Great food & great staff! I love the refried beans and Classico Beef tacos! The chicken is also phenomenal in my Many people seem to misunderstand how it works! If you ask for a topping on the side, it comes in a 2 oz cup. If you ask for an item that is both a topping AND a side, it's best to specify the size. Toppings are FREE that's why the portions are smaller. A side is 4 oz and you will pay for a larger portion. Much of the menu is a build your own type deal. If you didn't like it, try different toppings next time! The restaurant is unique and quirky and if you go to an employee with complaints, a solution will be made. The management cares about your experience and the GM makes sure the guests are welcome and satisfied. He tries to identify regulars, welcome them back, and meet new people. A great guy! read more
