Just go, trust me. The food was outstanding. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant but the menu has some hidden gems that are specialties of the owner. I am 51 and have eaten shrimp and grits my whole life, but this was hands down the best I have ever put in my mouth. Delightful! You will not regret eating here. read more

Every once in a while, you find a hidden gem. Something you didn't expect and something that exceeded your expectations. Sergio's is one of those places. My wife and I stopped here on a trip through northern Alabama. It's not much to look at on the outside, but it's definitely worth a visit. We were greeted by the owner and he was wonderful. He was very helpful and made a few suggestions that we followed. We were not sorry. The queso was good, but the guac was great. We make our own guac at home and we're pretty picky, but this was very good. I ordered the barilla quesadillas and my wife ordered the chicken fajitas. Both were wonderful. The owner suggested we try their grits. Grits at a Mexican restaurant? Now I'm a southern boy and I like my grits so they had better be good. They were outstanding. All in all, the food was excellent and the service was terrific. Sergio's is definitely on our list of places to eat at when we are in the area. It should be on yours too. read more

On a Sunday night at 6:30 this place is not busy? The service and food was awesome. Looks like a family business and the food had great flavors and cooked perfectly. It is in a shopping center so plenty of parking. We started with cheese dip, salsa amd chips. Great salsa and the cheese dip was thick and tasty. My friend had the fajita quesadilla and it was too big to finish. I had the normal enchiladas with rice and refried beans. The sauce in the enchilada was very flavorful. We really looked this place. If I lived here this place would bemy regular go to place for mexican food. read more

Legit, authentic Mexican food. It is in a low traffic strip mall. And doesn't look like much from the outside but definitely worth checking out. The salsa is pretty good but if you try the guacapico you might not want any more salsa. It is fresh avocado with tomato, onion, Cilantro and is so good. The owner sat right down at the table with me. Told me his background, talked about family, brought out his special hot sauce for me to try, it was really good with smoky roasted peppers in it. I was caught between the enchilada supreme and the poblano pepper. He told me if I like poblano I needed to try it here. I have never had a poblano i could cut with just a fork until now. On our family vacation and on our way to Huntsville. We were looking for a place to have lunch on the 4th of July. Many places were closed. We ended up at Sergios in Muscle Shoals. We were seated quickly. The owner kindly greeted us and gave us menus to peruse. Our order was taken. He suggested the guacamole and I am glad he did. It was absolutely delicious. Chunky loaded with tomatoes and red onions. I could have just ate the whole bowl. Salsa was also brought out and very good. I ordered shredded chicken enchiladas and they were very good. Mild taste and if you wanted it spicy you could add some of the salsa to it. Over all, a very good experience. The place is welcoming and very clean. A big shout out to Sergio. read more

Got it on new years best restaurant experience I've experienced in years. The food really was authentic 10/10 tastes and time for it. Lovely owner who came and greeted us, but that didn't help with the quality of the food. It was really salty and they use cheap ingredients. They even shorted me one enchilada on a three enchilada platter. Cost $45 for two draft beers (albeit large) and two entrées. One enchilada and one stuffed poblano entrée. The cheese was so inferior that I scraped it off. The ambiance wasn't great either. I'm all about a business man who builds his way up from busboy to owner, but I was a bit disappointed in quality vs cost. read more

Excellent food and service. The quality of the food is obviously superior to any of the other Mexican restaurants. The ambiance isn't quite up to par with the food though. It has the vibe of something like a dominos pizza. Don't let that stop you though it is the best Mexican restaurant in the shoals area. One word of warning, as of this writing, they don't currently have their liquor license. They have mixed drinks, beer, etc. on the menu but they aren't able to serve it yet. Apparently, they have an application submitted to the city. I highly recommend it! read more

This south of the border restaurant gets so much right. The food is fresh and flavorful without being searingly spicy. Try the guac-pico as an appetizer. Servers were attentive, and the owner was on hand to talk with customers. Not much to look at (it's in a strip mall) but it's clean and comfortable. We'll go again. read more

I am from out west where every other restaurant is Mexican food. So it's a very competitive market. I have had a hard time finding authentic Mexican food in this area. Everything is more Tex-mex and not authentic Mexican food. Sergio's is a gem if you enjoy authentic Mexican food. The staff is very friendly and the owner is very knowledgeable and can answer any questions you have. The margarita I was served was perfect and not overly sweet. A perfectly delightful experience for your taste buds! My husband discovered this gem on Facebook and so glad we decided to try it out on a recent trip to the Quad Cities. We went there for lunch and met Sergio who was very personable and is an excellent chef. He's been in the restaurant business for over 25 years and comes from the Mobile area. He recommended the Shrimp and Grits which is what I got. There were probably at least a dozen large shrimp in a large bowl of creamy, cheesy, flavorful grits. Just the right amount of spice. I don't care for spicy food. I couldn't eat all of it after eating a lot of their delicious freshly-made tortilla chips and probably the best salsa I've ever had. We also got a small bowl of queso dip but I opted for the salsa and my husband ate the queso. My husband ordered the shrimp tacos with dipping sauce, rice and charro beans. Everything we had was authentic and homemade. We ordered some churros with some chocolate sauce drizzled over them. Sergio made some homemade guacamole for a take-out order and made a little extra for us to try. It was pretty amazing. My husband doesn't even like guacamole and he said it was better than the salsa! We told Sergio that we would be back, Lord willing. Try it out. You won't be disappointed. read more
