They give you tortillas, that seem freshly made, a couple salsa and a pico. I ordered a side of guac and am glad I did. It was all pretty good, although I did kinda expect more ingredients, like cheese. It's $12 which is steep given the ingredients. If I lived here I'd try something else, I'm only in town for one night. Their ordering screen could use some help. FIRST AN LAST TIME I COME HERE. The bathrooms were nasty, floors were dirty and look like they were allergic to cleaning or something. ALSO, the tables were not cleaned at all. This facility was a disaster everything from dirty tables, trash on the floor, the salsa bar being wiped out of just about everything no chips various salsa bins empty. Not to mention the service, I approached and employee and he completely ignored me as he mumbled something. Definitely not recommend!! The service is terrible, every time I come here the lady has an attitude and complains that she can't hear us at the window but any time it's someone else they're able to hear us. There's an older gentleman I've seen a couple times constantly maintaining the salsa/condiment bar -- I've got to give him props as it's always been particularly clean, neat and organized. This place claims to be authentic Mexican but it's a mixture of Tex-Mex and fast food Mexican. I would say, it would compete with Taco Cabana, if there was one near here. They cater to the locals, but mostly to passenger buses driving up and down I-35. The food is good, but not great, but the free salsas and chips make up for the greatness of the food. The other reason for my 3 stars, is because of the price. They have prices that you would find on a fancy Mexican restaurant. A simple fajita taco that may contain 60 cents of ingredients, will cost you around $5. And this $5 taco has a big disappointment (because you need to fill yourself with lots and chips and two tacos). For around $7 you can get a sirloin burrito (very big), big enough to fill you with plenty of food (most adults could not finish it, its huge). If I had little children, maybe I would appreciate it more (the place has a children's playground), similar to one found in a McDonald's restaurant. The margaritas are cheap, but I can't say if they are worth it or not, because their machine was not working. I was told it would take 30 minutes to get cold enough to be able to serve one. Fajitas for two, were around $30 (around the same price of what you pay at Chili's), but at Chili's you get the chips and salsa brought to your table, and the fajitas are way better, and the ambiance, well (Taco Palenque ambiance is one step below McDonald's). read more

I call this "the Mexican tour bus gamble." If you show up and there are big buses outside - forget it. Leave. They are super crowded when these buses are there. Sometimes there is not even one seat in the house. My girlfriend sat at an empty table while I waited in line, she was saving it. Three old men from the bus just sat right down at OUR TABLE, taking my seat in the process. I told them to move and they completely ignored me.
