Can't speak highly enough of this place, I try to hit up as many Mexican restaurants as I can find and most are either mediocre or slightly nasty. This is a gem that is easy to look over by appearances alone. Everything I've tried here is fantastic, and the Salvadorian menu is by far the best part. Your first choice? The Papusa. We are a Salvadorian family first of all and we noticed when we were driving North Ave this restaurant and saw the PUPUSERIA sign and decided to go in and try it. The food wasn't bad. The pupusas were thick, but the flavor was good. The only complaint is the portions are small for example the Yuca salcochada was just a little bit for $6.00!!! But, my biggest disappointment with this restaurant is the service! That first order that we placed to go they forgot our Yuca salcochada and they forgot the guacamole in my daughter's burrito. So, we called to get a refund or food and they apologize and told us to come back. When we went back for a refund, the lady at the counter said that she couldn't give me a refund because she offered us food and not our money back. We were not going to argue with her, but in reality we didn't want the food. We only wanted our money back for the missing food. How sad that they have a very bad customer service at this place and lack of common sense when it comes to please the customer. We are not coming back! I am not sure where to start. We usually go to another Mexican restaurant but decided this place would be worth a shot for some takeout. It is right next to a Sushi restaurant (Kinta Sushi) which we visit fairly frequently for take out. We went in, it reminded me of a hole in the wall bodega where the food would be absolutely, authentic Mexican. We were the only white bunch in there, good sign right? No. Was I wrong. We placed our order which was more expensive than our usual Mexican haunt price wise, while the lady who took our orderly wasn't very friendly, she wasn't overtly rude either so I just chucked it up to "maybe she doesn't speak English so no chit chat and smile". I decide to take a seat next to what I think was an ice machine in their diner area (Very tiny restaurant, maybe 8 tables) and start chatting with my friend when he suddenly says to me "GET UP." I look up confused by his serious tone of voice. "GET UP, Meghan, the table is covered in something". Welp, it was dead bugs. While I was busy being social with my friend I had failed to realize the floor and the all of the tables along the wall were COVERED in small dead bugs of some sort. I get up and start slapping the sleeves of my sweater to swat off the dead bugs who were now taking a ride on it. I want to take off my sweater and seriously consider it, but I am not wearing anything but a bra underneath so I do not and try to jitterly continue to wipe them off with a napkin from my friends coat pocket. I look around after I calm down, yet am still in full "This is horribly disgusting I want to go home mode", I see that there is a tiny dead parade of bugs trailing from under the ice machine to up the walls and onto the three tables lining the walls on the right side of the small restaurant. My friend asks me if I am ok with just leaving, I am very ok with that. We leave. We don't wait for the food we have already paid for. We don't ask for a refund from the woman who did not appear to speak English. We leave and that's that. Long story short? Tried this place on a whim, found a graveyard of dead bugs taking up 1/3 of small hole in the wall "mom and pop" type restaurant. I will NEVER go back. read more

Kind of expensive. The deals are kind of weird. I went there for dinner they had a dinner special 7.99$ for two tacos, rice and beans, with a drink. I wish I would have known that before buying the three taco dinner and a drink for 12$. It would have been cheaper to do the taco dinner and add a taco for 2.50$. It was really tasty though and I like that they have a lot of salsa options. I recommend the birria. read more

This place is the worst. Took my order for delivery and paid. Even added a tip on with my card over the phone. Was told it would be a half hour. Over an hour later I get a call from them saying they haven't left yet and that they can't because they forgot to charge me a delivery fee. I tell them well your over 45 min late. So waive the fee. They say no. 5$ fee. Didn't deliver my food because they didn't add it on to a bill and I already paid. They refunded me. But I'm out 50 bucks until it comes back through the back in 2 days. Worst customer service. And this isn't the first time. Gave them a second chance here. Had terrible order accuracy. read more

This is our old standby favorite Mexican restaurant. There is not much by way of atmosphere but the food is consistently good. The tacos, burritos, rice and beans and horchata are delicious and authentically flavored. Prices are very reasonable and service is polite and prompt. They also have Salvadoran food (they also call themselves a "Pupuseria") but I haven't gotten the nerve to try those items yet. read more

Their sandwiches / Tortas are so badly lacking in meat that I have to Cut off huge chunks of bread just to Enjoy the Sandwich! I've eaten here numerous times and I used to like their food, but their attention to detail is deteriorating along with their food's tastiness. I always ask for no onions, and 1 out of 3 times I get Onions! After today's Experience, I will Never go back there! The meat was salty & dry. Never Again. I only gave them one star because it wouldn't let me leave no stars. So our first experience was when we ordered food and it took 2 hours to deliver. By the time we received it our lunch break was over. So we gave them another chance cause everyone deserves another chance...this time it took an hour and half, luckily from the experience before we ordered way before our lunch break. The tacos were great but come on and hour and a half!? Now our last experience was down right disapointing...we ordered tacos, grilled onions and peppers, as I was eating my taco I bit into something chewy...thinking it was meat I spit it out and what did I see!? A rubber band. I took a picture and sent it to the restaurant right away and they had the adacity to insinuate that I put it in there!? The customer service was horrific. The owner does not know how to run a restaurant. But the food is good. Hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else... cause obviously these tacos are a choking hazard.....plus they charge 2 times for taxes and delivery charge is $5.75!? Who does that! The tacos are delicious with a generous quantity of meat on them. The pupusas are amazing! When it's busy over the lunch hour, it can take a bit to get your food, but it's always fresh and delicious. Came here for the pupusas and LOVED them! I can't compare them to other ones since this was my first time having a pupusa but even my Latina mother says they are up to par! Two stars only because the burritos (after one bite) were decent and the chips and salsa we ordered was pretty good. For two burritos, they gave us one small "shot-glass" cup of each hot sauces. We ordered for delivery and the food showed up cold 1.5hrs after we placed the order. I just had dinner at Taco Real. I can't believe I have lived less than a mile from this place for almost 5 years and never ate there. It's so good! I had a taco dinner and a quesadilla. Huge amount of food. The taco dinner consists of 3 tacos with a side of rice and refried beans. It was $7.99. I got ground beef tacos prepared the Mexican way with fresh chopped cilantro and onions. They were delicious. The rice was good but on the small side. Very small. Order extra if you love rice. Refried beans were good but also small. I also ordered a quesadilla with chicken. It was $1.75 I only had a couple of bites because I was full from the tacos. Insane! So good! I will never eat at taco bell again. This place has spoiled me. We have ordered in the past and while more expensive than other places the food was usually on point ... but the other day was officially our last time ordering. We ordered off grub hub for pick up (no way would we pay nearly $5 for delivery especially with our first time making this mistake and it was a 2 hour delivery wait?!!! hence we pick up now). I told my hubby that the total was $31.91.... when he arrived the cashier said $34.91 and he almost just paid. But said wait, I could have sworn I was told it was $31.91, after her being a little rude she looked and realized yes she was wrong and it was indeed $31.91!! Almost overpaid there by $3... but wait we get home and I am missing my one $3 taco!!! SO tried to rip us off at payment but then still got is with not giving me our 1 taco. So on to the main meal, my husbands carnitas Chimichanga was horrible - I have never seen him in so disgust! He said it definitely tasted like it was frozen meat but even worst just tons of chunks of fat, he didn't order Chicharrón but Carnitas and then it was overly packed with cheese. Just very confusing Chimichanga... I myself had the pollo chimichanga and the chicken was good and had a mixture of some rice and cheese, not bad at all. but felt so bad that my hubby couldn't get more than 2 solid bites of his. good thing he ordered as well the Chicharron & yucca to have something fill him up after that expensive and waste of meal. I ordered form Grub hub. the food came over 30 minutes late. Called the restaurant they said there drive had the food and that they couldn't tell me what time I would receive my order. and she then hung up the phone. When the food final arrived the drive rang the door bell I answered the door he handed me the bag Witch was very cold. and he ran off. after I opened the bag and checked the food it was all freezing cold. called the restaurant they said I had to call grub hub. So I did grub hub was great worked with the restaurant to get them to come pick up there disgusting food so I could get a refund. The drive again came to my door picked up the food and ran off. Now the restaurant says they won't give me a refund. so they have my food and money and grub hub says there is nothing they can do about it. Giving taco Real 1 star is being very nice but you can't go lower then that. I would have been happy if they just brought me warm food but that was to much trouble.
