Service and food were delicious, we ordered a few different tacos and all were good - but Al pastor was far the best!

We recently came in here for lunch and we were expecting for a more authentic experience, but it left us disappointed. We often eat authentic Mexican food so we found the flavors light, the steak wasn't tender, and the birria lacked some of the note and spices we were expecting. The service consists of ordering at the counter, but we did take out so that was necessary. There were a few tables inside. Minimal decor, simple set up. Entering smelled more like cleaning supplies and less like the strong aromatic scents you'd find in a Mexican kitchen. The business looks family ran, and we think that's awesome! read more

We were looking for new Mexican spots around town and came across this hidden gem! Has limited seating and is probably best suited for a pickup order or to eat outside on the tables when the weather is nice (which is what we did). Generous portion of avocado and guac which is key (yes, believe you still have to pay extra for guac). I got the cheese enchiladas and would come back again for it! Only dinging one star for the lack of seating and limited parking, but doesn't impact the quality of the food. read more

HIDDEN GEM! Stopped in while in the area and I am so happy we did! The food is reasonably priced. Kitchen is open so you can see your food being made. The service is fast and food is DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!! We didn't even get photos of our food because we devoured it. I ordered the chicken birria tacos and we had flautas to start. Birria is made from beef so it is unusually to find birria tacos with chicken instead of beef which was a pleasant surprise. The sauce still is beef though so keep that in mind. Best flautas I have ever had. Flavorful and not greasy. I still dream about this place that's how good it is. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and give this place a try. I cannot speak to other people's experiences but this is one of my favorite taco/mexican food spots in NJ. If you read my other reviews you will see that they all have 5 stars as of this writing. That is because I do not review places that are not good. It's not a food snob thing, it's just that some places could be having a bad day or struggling with staff or any other million reasons and I would prefer not to trash a place that is trying. I'd prefer not to say anything at all. Are there things lacking here, yes. The atmosphere is hole in the wall (but clean). This coming from an ex pat of NY who would kill for good hole in the wall joints. There are only a few tables and some outside seating. Is the food completely authentic Mexican cuisine, no. But yesterday was our third time here and we will be going back to try something different. Just for context, this place is over an hour drive from our home. Between my wife and I, we have shared several different tacos including the birria, enchiladas, and burritos as well as the horchata. They even have Chilaquiles! I found everything flavorful and plentiful. Each time we were greeted with big smiles and a staff that couldn't help us enough. We have eaten in every time and although the atmosphere lacks decoration, I feel as if I'm eating at a local place that the locals want to keep a secret. I think that they should rebrand their name to Taco.....STOP!!!! And you should. read more

I live less than 10 minutes from this spot and drive by it daily. I finally decided to stop by here one night and grab some tacos. The first thing I noticed is that the prices are very reasonable. Only $3 a taco. That's a steal for 2024. I ordered 3 different ones to try. One steak, one chicken, and one pork. All three of these tacos were amazing. They were just super flavorful amd delicious. Was on my way to meet a friend while he was fishing in the nearby area. Found this place thru Yelp, checked out the reviews and pics and gave it a try. Despite the uber simple and unassuming name, this is Taco joint is certainly one to keep in mind when looking for some good, and fast food. I had extremely low expectations when I chose this spot, as all the surrounding eateries were closed. But, I left beyond satisfied with my meal, and most the service in had. Fantastic birria with consommé. The birria is the texture of brisket, has that needed fattiness and the consommé is salty but in the right way. When dipping the mellow meat into consommé, you need that zing of salt. The birria has the perfect balance of cheese, diced onion and cilantro. I regret placing only one order of these. For birria you must buy three. It comes with a spicy green sauce, a mild red pepper sauce, consommé, and a couple slices of lime. I got the tres leches but it's was just ok. The birria though is WOW Located off route nine, it's easily accessible, has a small free parking lot and you can see them from the road. Inside is very cute, they have about 4-5 tables and cute Mexican decor. The lady behind the counter was friendly and welcoming. I like the atmosphere and the place was very clean. read more

I can't explain enough how amazing the food here is, i've been coming for a few months now and living in NJ for a long time this has to be my favorite taco spot! Birria tacos come 3 to an order and definitely worth a try. The meat was juicy and full of flavor along with dipping sauce The tostadas were crunchy topped with your choice of meat along with cheese and lettuce. My daughter and nephews really enjoyed the chicken burritos. Portion sizes are good and everything was full of flavor . My daughter also love the green salsa I think she ate almost the whole bottle. 3.5 stars... It's very small inside with about ten tables. They do say that you can dine in if you choose , but had to pass. Just too many folks ( masks on), standing around waiting for their food. Plus, it's currently cash only for now. Out front are four large red and green picnic tables that you can enjoy your grub. But we chose takeout for now. They didn't allow single tacos to buy. Which has always been my way of sampling the menu. Minimum of 2 per order. So we tried 2 steak/2 chicken and 3 fish tacos. Of the 3, fish was clearly the best of the group. Beautiful neighborhood Gem! We had a large catering order of over 80 tacos for my sons birthday. Asked them to deliver at 3pm and they came exactly on time. Taco Stop is the most authentic Mexican food I have had in New Jersey. And mind you, I love a good taco or burrito or quesadilla; but, other restaurants in the region cannot compare. Sure one could go and dine at a fancy location in Jersey City or Red Bank, but when there is a local joint that is packed with the same flavor? I don't look in the same direction of Moe's or Chipotle ever since discovering this location. I come here often and I can recommend a few options: the Pollo or Chorizo Burrito is a must, the Pollo or Chorizo Tacos are phenomenal, and their Vanilla Flan is a great dessert. The service is friendly and the hospitality is warm and I am willing to drive the 30 minutes for this fantastic food rather than settle for a chain Mexican place. read more

I came here a lot just for the Birria taco's. Not sure what happened but some new ownership took over and decided it was a good idea to keep the expensive price the same while turning the Birria taco's into laughable bite-sized "taco's." The pictures of their Birria tacos are wrong. They no longer make it that size. They are tiny and even give half that mount of consommé too. It used to be hard to finish three, now you get four mini-sized things that don't fill you up. All for $15. I brought up the change to some lady behind the counter (bad energy, probably the one who decided to change it) and she just shrugged and said it was the same amount of stuffing, which any of my friends and i can easily say was an absolute and blatant lie. They rip you off now and it isn't worth coming here for the Birria taco's anymore. All the people I brought here and I won't be coming back. It's literally the only reason why any of us came.
