Went here with my wife for lunch on Friday to get take out and eat it at the Perth Amboy waterfront, which is about 5 minutes away from Rico Taco Mex. I ordered bistec tacos which come 3 to an order for $14. My wife ordered lengua tacos which are 3 for $16. We shared an order of tortilla chips with guac. Chips were fresh out of the fryer, golden brown, and still warm when we got to the waterfront. Guac was chunky, fresh and so flavorful. The two of them were a perfect combo. Bistec tacos were delicious! Steak was thinly cut, seasoned well, and grilled nicely with a tasty char to it. Homemade tortillas, onion, cilantro, a little salsa verde, and a little salsa Rojo with flash fried green onion on top made for a great lunch. My wife loved her lengua tacos. That meal along with enjoying it on the waterfront during perfect weather turned it into a wonderful afternoon! read more

First 5 star experience for 2022! I've seen this place a few times driving through Perth Amboy to get to the waterfront. I decided to order since the reviews are so good. Deservingly so. I ordered shrimp tacos, quesadilla de pollo and a plain churro. Everything was fresh. Everything was full of flavor. Everything was authentic and everything was well prepared. I absolutely LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I've been here several times and my food is always fresh. I love this place so much, I've even brought my family here to eat a handful of times. This time, I had the chicken tacos and a soursop juice. It wasn't surprising how delicious it was as I've had them before. I've also had their pineapple mango juice which is great too. Their customer service is A1! Although their prices did not reflect what was on the menu (the menu said I can mix chicken, and fish tacos for the same price but when I ordered it, they said they were no longer serving that but honored it because that was my impression- I appreciated that a lot), I had no issue if I ended up paying the difference as I genuinely enjoy the food, customer service and the ambience of this place. Well I have to say. I have been looking for a taco salad like this for years. The place that I used to go to close down then I started going to a different one in Newark and it's just too far. I have been going to this restaurant.Rico Taco Mex for a couple of months now and just ordering chicken tacos. I saw somebody order a taco salad and it looked delicious. I almost don't want to recommend this place because I don't want it to get too famous and crowded. However, I also want them to get infinite customers and survive forever. I have been enjoying tacos and horchata from Rico Taco Mex for more than five years and unlike many other restaurants, while the prices have gone up, the quality, service, and attention to detail have remained the same. I recently tried some of the other options on the menu and they were equally delicious. Be prepared for a little bit of a wait, as all of the food is prepared fresh to order. What a GEM! A hole in the wall with wonderful tías who will make you feel like home. Fresh ingredients from meat to vegetables and fruits! Got my guanábana (soursop) shake fixed! The chimichanga was flavorful in its crispy shell. Each bite was a wonder. Same goes with the tacos. The soft and slightly chewy lengua (cow tongue) just melt in your mouth. Al pastor was full of flavor and the tripa! I definitely got the feeling that this was authentic Mexican food, not sure if I'd be back though. There are other options in the area that I felt gave me better value for my dollar. The tripe , tongue and cow head tacos were freshly made to order along with onions and cilantro. Three dollars per taco but not the double shell type that you would expect and only a few onions to garnish it and no jalapeño which cost extra and no chips and salsa. A bit of a language barrier, but the place was fairly clean and small about six tables with bar seats for another five or six more. BYOB as you would expect. With so many other wonderful hole in the wall places that will give you much better value for your dollar, I don't think I'll be back. read more

El pastor is really very well made. I prefer a simple taco, just cilantro onion and lime. They do them great here. They garnish with some thin sliced radish which is a nice touch. Wasn't planning to stop in for breakfast, but I'm glad I did. This spot is literally a hole in the wall. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the hours they are open amaze me - 5 am to midnight Mon-sat and 6 am - 6pm Sundays! This mom and pop restaurant is surely working hard! Don't let the appearance and neighborhood sway you from coming here. I only had a breakfast omelet but it was really yummy, and I and I can tell by this and previous reviews their other menu items would be good. Ordered the Long life omelette on their menu and loved it. It's more like a scrambler because it didn't resemble an omelette. It was packed with yummy cheese mix, peppers tomatoes, onions and turkey. Only negative was I wish it had more turkey. Still, I received a lot of food and nice service. They has a bunch of booth seating as well as counter seating in front of an open grill. They make tacos, Quesadillas, sandwiches, fresh juices, and other popular Mexican food we all love. There is metered street parking everywhere. The best tacos I have ever had! I drive over 20 minutes for these tacos. The tortillas are made fresh, as in be prepared to wait because she is working the mass and putting it on the griddle after you order.
