I heard great things about this place. I think they have great potential to. I had the fish tacos based on the owners recommendation. They were good, not great. There was a little bit of burnt flavor to them. Not sure if it was the fish, or the tortilla. Another thing is they need some kind of sauce or freshness. They were also a bit dry. I was also disappointed that they were out of flank steak as I heard it was one of their house specialties. I also got a carnitas sope. It was really good and I can see why people are talking about this place. The pork was well cooked and flavorful. The sope itself was just like you would expect. Denser than a taco or a tostada shell. The chips and salsa were different and good. I'll come back again next time I'm in Midland and give them another shot. Lots of potential. read more

Found out about the restaurant when they came to the Midland Farmer's Market. We ordered a variety or tacos, chicken flautas, and a burrito. Everything was great! I enjoyed the avocado taco and the fact that they offered a variety of vegetarian options. Their chips and salsa are delicious. Everything was reasonably priced but they do charge for chips and salsa. One person in our party thought a few of the items were a bit salty, but the other two of us disagreed. Overall, very kind people, great food, and a variety of taco options that you won't find anywhere else close by. read more

We bought the chips and salsa at the Midland farmers market and they were AMAZING, some of the best salsa I've had. So we decided to go the restaurant to try the tacos and that's where the disappointment began: -the actual place is a bit dirty/unkempt, thankfully we were getting takeout -we had the vegetarian tacos and tostadas--very salty and no flavor; the potato's were raw as well Overall I would not go back. But I will definitely continue to get their chips and salsa at the farmers market. read more

Was in the area this last week, and was told that there was a taco place on the other side of Sanford Lake that was pretty good. I looked it up, and everyone seemed to think highly of it. Living in the Houston area, now, I have a pretty high standard for tacos, but I have to tell you that Black Creek Kitchen knocks it out of the park. I had a flank steak taco, a pork taco, and a chicken tinga tostada. The meat was all very flavorful, very complex actually. I was super pleased with them all. Had chips and salsa, the chips are made there, and thicker than usual, and the salsa is fresh style, i.e. it's ground up there. I ate a bunch of the mild, then was offered hot, which was even better, and then finally, one of the guys there said they have even hotter. The hottest salsa they had was both very spicy, but also layered with different levels of flavor, and is legitimately one of the best salsas I've had. Pretty surprising for someplace out of the way like that. To top it off, they had just baked a cherry pie, and the pie was very good, a flakey, buttery crust contrasted nicely with the cherries. Since it was warm, I took it with a scoop of ice cream on top...super good. Overall, I can't recommend this place enough. read more

Excellent new pop up street food style restaurant! A very entertaining owner proprietor Chef R makes very tasty creations at an excellent price. I like to think of BCK as a tapas taco stop that will not leave you broke and hungry. Because the quality of food is high and the place is very clean, I will definitely keep coming back for more. I enjoy the simplicity of the menu and like I said...it is all good and very inexpensive so if you are starving, you can try everything on the menu for less than $20!!! I really liked the pork taco with cotija cheese on top, it paired perfectly with the flavors you created. OMG and the meatball with egg surprise inside...very inventive and makes me wish you were closed to my house so I could enjoy one every morning. Excellent place, looking forward to enjoy BCK again when I come through Michigan. Might make a special trip when you have one of your events, or to check out the milk bar. Eh....I wanted to try this new restaurant because I had heard that it was pretty good. Well...it has a VERY limited menu with about 6 or seven items to choose from. The outside of the building isn't very appealing. The interior is ok but very basic. The food is ok but sparse. We ordered a couple of different kinds of tacos and they were ok but had about two tablespoons of meat and a couple flakes of some kind of cheese served on a very small corn tortilla. I asked if he had chips and salsa since that is what I like at a Mexican themed restaurant. He did not ,instead he served us raw carrots with some kind of spice sprinkled on them. That was ok but I would have liked chips and salsa. The owner was very nice and is trying hard but I don't think this will be in business for long....at least I won't be back. read more

We are in town visiting family and found Black Creek through Yelp. So glad we stopped in. Great service and delicious tacos. We all tried their highly rated G taco and we were well pleased with that recommendation. My husband liked it so much he ordered three more. I ordered the O (sopa) with the pork from the G and my tastebuds were doing a happy dance. We'll definitely be back next time we're near Midland. read more

What a hidden gem in a tiny town! An amazing array of tacos. tostadas and other Mexican street food. It's also great that, in the COVID era, they have a nice online ordering system with good descriptions of the dishes. We especially enjoy their signature pulled pork, chicken tinga, and homemade chorizo. We also love their salsa; usually buy it by the container along with their house tortilla chips. They have vegetarian/ vegan options. Every so often they have a themed dinner evening service. The restaurant is a bit hard to find, and easily overlooked -- it's on River Road, north of Business 10, in a building next to a gas station -- well worth the extra effort to find. read more

This cute little place in Sanford, Michigan serves up some of the best tacos, tostadas, and sopas we have ever tasted, and we have traveled around. It could be because the food arrives at your table (or as your takeout) freshly prepared in every way (the tortilla chips and salsa we had as appetizers were just made that morning). It could be the friendly, attentive owner, Richard, and his staff, or the small but clean interior with local art on the walls. They have a targeted list of fillings (the G, the R, the B, etc) executed as tacos, flautas, burritos, etc plus some sides, some non-Mexican entrees, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Whatever your reason, do stop there when you are in mid-Michigan, and you'll be happy you did. read more

Hidden treasure. The tacos here are AMAZING! I had never had a braised pork taco, but it was so good. I think my personal favorite was the avocado taco. The best thing was that everything was fresh. Keep in mind that you are paying for fresh, well-made, quality food. It isn't Gordon's, Sysco, or Stapleton's. It is well worth finding this place; you'll eat several. read more

Every foodie lives for the thrill of discovering a start-up restaurant, some place new in town that hasn't yet developed the 'fast food' niceties we've become accustomed to. Black Creek Kitchen, only 2 weeks old when we visited, is just such a restaurant. No servers, no free chips and salsa, no slick decorating or menus yet -- just good food, cooked while you wait, and different than what we generally find locally. Good food and conversation with Richard, apparently the owner, and also the man who collected the recipes, cooks them to order, and serves them, too. Think of it as Mexican street food, let a trickle of grease run down your arms if you'd like, and smile. It probably won't be long before this place starts to feel more like other Michigan restaurants and less like a bargain vacation, and that will be a shame for people like me, but if the food stays this good, I won't mind too much. read more
