It's totally worth the stop if you appreciate local spirits! The ambiance is sophisticated and yet chill. The people working here and knowledgeable and efficient. There's definitely a following and a stopover crowd, but you're bound to leave with some new knowledge and a wetted whistle. The tasting price is perhaps a little steep, but the uniqueness of each of the products makes it worth it, especially if you think you might buy something to take home. Everything they do with maple is glorious, and the rye they make using Japanese barrels - while their most expensive - is very, very good. They also have a maple cream ($30) that is delicious. The shop also contains a lot of cute merch as well some single-bagged snacks. Check out the fridge in the back for Other Half beer (and others) and non-alcoholic drinks, too. You can buy Taconic Distillery whiskies at most liquor stores in the Hudson Valley, so why visit there? I can think of several reasons: 1. The products - they have a lot more available in-house than you might find at the liquor stores. That includes some whiskies with different finishes. I bought, for example, some of their Private Reserve bourbon, finished in a cognac cask. They also have rum and gin finished in bourbon casks for sale here. 2. The tastings. Tastings are 3 for $15, which IMO is not as good a deal as other distilleries in the Hudson Valley, and your initial choices are their bourbons, maple bourbon, and ryes. But there's a small sign on the wall which also implies you can alter that to a mix of whiskey and cocktails. 3. The cocktails. On their website, they list some you can make with their products, and if you are lucky enough to have Carol Ann, their mixologist there, you should consider trying some either as part of your tasting or separately. At $8, it's about half the price of similar cocktails in NYC. The gin & tonic using their gin was amazing, and that was with a generic tonic - imagine it with a premium tonic! 4. The scenery. It is an especially nice drive there in the fall, in rural Dutchess County not far off the Taconic Parkway. If the weather is nice, besides the comfortable chairs and tables inside at which you can drink and lounge, there are seats outside. 5. Love the atmosphere. Like the choices. Had to take one star off for the hours open would love to hang out later in the evenings at least after work or be able to pick up something on a weeknight especially during the summer. When I showed up it was very busy with what seemed to be regulars who eager to help you make your decisions and explain things because the bartenders were so busy selling things. Found this place on a Saturday afternoon motorcycle ride. What a hidden gem! From the employees to the bourbon to the decor and the vibe ... I will definitely be back! Very reasonable 15$ tasting flight and you get to keep the tasting class . I sampled a variety of 40-60$ bourbons and I will definitely be searching for this brand in Queens NY where I live! Fantastic place! My friend and I did a tasting together Saturday afternoon. They had several bourbons and rye whiskey to choose from. They also make a great gin! You get to choose 3 samples per person. Staff was excellent especially Jonathan who was our bartender. Everything we tried was great! The double barrel maple bourbon was my favorite. Absolutely love their logo and all the merch they had for sale. Whoever does their design work is awesome! The tasting room was very warm and inviting. We had so much fun we decided to stay longer and got some cocktails to enjoy outside and look at the beautiful view. Lots of outside seating and a great atmosphere overall. This is a great little addition to the area when breweries and distilleries are popping up all over the area. They truly are the legit one that belongs. Their bourbon is delicious. They offer a tasting for $15 that allows you to try 3 of their offerings. I went home with a bottle of their mizunara which is aged in Japanese oak barrels. Truly complex and delicious. I'll let the people with more refined palates break the flavor down but I notice some sweet with caramel flavors and a hint of spice. I just know that I enjoyed it. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. The setting is nice. You can enjoy a mixed gin or bourbon cocktail, or neat if you prefer that, In an Adirondack chair with a decent view into a valley peppered with cattle. It's in a remote location but the drive was nice and peaceful and allowed for some nice views along the way. read more

Learned about Taconic Distillery from dutchess county tourism. Distillery website didn't list any times for tours so I had to contact them directly. They responded quickly that they are open for bourbon tasting. We visited sprout creek and twin star orchard before the distillery. The space is rather small. They have a great looking wooden bar and a front shop area with lots of merch (maple syrups, hats, tshirts). The bar has lots of great expensive bourbons (including pappy) on the top shelf and local bourbons from NYC area on the bottom shelf. You can't buy them but they can give u a taste. The tasting itself costs $20, it includes a snifter like glass with Taconic dog and a taste of their 2 bourbons and a rye. The portions were tiny, they didn't offer any ice or water. There was however a wooden platter with cheese, crackers and grapes. The owner who served us at the bar was very knowledgeable. They don't offer tours yet because the facility is still not completely set up. The entire tasting was over in 15 minutes and was a bit underwhelming. I would not drive there from NYC again. I'd rather go check out local wineries. read more

Stopped here on Saturday afternoon for bourbon tasting and tour. We only did the tasting - $20 for three bourbons and a bourbon glass to keep. The tours are not available yet, they are still setting everything up. The front area with a bar and a merch shop is great. They have a lot of little things to buy: tshirts, hats, maple syrup, bourbon bottles, etc. The bar is just for tasting. This is a fantastic distillery in a beautiful area. Came up from NYC for a day trip & stopped here for a tasting. Very good bourbons & ryes (as well as a very interesting rum aged in bourbon barrels), & knowledgeable and warm staff. The owner Paul was there and took some time to talk to explain their process and suggest other things in the area to check out. All in all, a great experience. Great drinks, great company, and great facilities. Would definitely go back for another tasting. This picturesque distillery is tucked away on a gorgeous property with plenty of space on their outdoor patio. For $15 a tasting, we got to try a combination of their bourbon and rye products and got to keep the cutest set of glasses with their logo on the front. All of which, the bartenders were very knowledgeable of and even let us taste their limited releases! They're dog friendly which is a huge plus so even the little one can come along. They had cornhole set up on the patio for us to hang out outside and have a cocktail of the weekend. The staff was very attentive and accommodating while we hung out and enjoyed the sun. The dark haired girl was very informative about the products and very patient and courteous when it came to answering all my questions even though she seemed to be busy serving multiple tables while the other attendant was mainly focused on socializing with her friends. Wow! Beautiful autumn landscape! The drive upstate along the Taconic was breathtaking! It was a pleasant surprise to see that the Taconic Distillery has such lovely surroundings, as well. The bar was attractive, the whiskey delicious and the staff friendly and helpful. The dark haired young woman was doing a great job of training the red haired young woman. Bought a Groupon coupon for a tour, tasting, and glass. Got to the distillery, and found out the distillery is not operational yet, so no tour. Got what I thought were three of the cheapest pours of any distillery I have ever visited for $15.00. I did get a glass. The bartenders were, at best, indifferent. One spent most of her time playing with her cat. I love their bourbons, but would not waste my time on a visit to Taconic Distillary. Just go to a liquor store and buy a bottle of the maple bourbon. read more

We love this place! The setting is gorgeous, rolling farmland....no matter what season it is, the view is breathtaking! The inside of the place is also attractive and homey. The young women who tend the bar are both very knowledgeable about the products and are friendly and helpful. We will be bringing our out of town family there for sure! read more
