A list of dine in requirements rivaling a first day of work

Excellent banana pudding and slightly above average enchiladas! I'm all about a casual, laid-back vibe, but this Mexican place took it to a whole new level... and not exactly in a good way. The food was decent, but the service was a bit of a mixed bag - our server was friendly enough, but seemed pretty overwhelmed. The real kicker, though, was being expected to bus our own tables (um, isn't that what tips are for?) and, at one point, being told to pick up our own food from the kitchen counter. It felt super DIY, and not in a charming way. Maybe I'm just spoiled, but I like my dining experience to come with, you know, actual service. 2.5/5 stars

Three Taco Dinner - Two chicken and one ground beef
    Allison R.

Grabbed a three taco dinner with two chicken tacos and one ground beef taco and it hit the spot. I liked their crunchy taco shells and they served American style - loaded with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. I also enjoyed the chicken a little more than the beef. The rice wasn't dry and had good flavor and the beans were a medium to thick consistency, which I liked. Their mild salsa has a tomato sauce base flavor which I didn't care for. The hot salsa had good flavor, but wasn't all that hot. I could see this being an awesome midnight craving spot but I think they close earlier than that. **Check out my collection Lansing Area Tacos! for more local taco reviews!**

Terrific find! Quick, pleasant service of deliciousness! We highly recommend the full nachos with chicken. Tasty food for a fair price.

The broth had a wonderful thickness and so much flavor. I almost wanted to drink it straight out of the bowl. The burritos were filled and delicious. They had an elote cart featured tonight. Run don't walk to eat at this place!

The end, decor matches the authenticity of the cuisine, music was at an appropriate level. CLEANLINESS: CUSTOMER SPACES (lobby, seating): Appeared clean BATHROOMS: Did not use SERVICE AREAS (kitchen, behind counters): Did not see. STAFF: SERVER: Younger male. Very nice, was attentive, pleasant. HOST/HOSTESS: She was very friendly. OTHER (manager, buser, bartender): Did not have any other interactions. SERVICE: Service was good, server was very nice with any questions we had. *** What we didn't appreciate was when it was time to pay the bill, the server brings out the handheld payment tool (like a lot of restaurants use now), server holds the tool so my husband can see and stares at the tool, watching my husband choose what tip amount etc. It automatically defaults to a 20% tip and then increases from there for tip choices!! We felt very pressured and awkward with this. We like to take our time and figure out how much we want to leave based on service not feel "pushed" into choosing one of the pre chosen percentage amounts (especially if they default to a minimum of 20%)!!! The server needs to leave the tool at the table walk away or stand farther back so the customer can privately pay. FOOD &/or BEVERAGE: Birria Taco Dinner TASTE: tacos were very good, flavors of the meat was amazing and that dipping sauce was so good! Beans and rice were basic (nothing different than other places). SIZE: average PRICE: $15.99 Chimichanga TASTE: chicken meat was very flavorful, overall was a very delicious chimichanga. SIZE: average PRICE: $16.99 Basic Burrito TASTE: ground meat was very flavorful, asked for only meat and cheese (normally comes with beans and rice inside) and it had a small amount of beans inside :(. Overall was a delicious basic burrito. Note that this burrito is served dry not wet. SIZE: average PRICE: $9.99 Burrito Chaparrito TASTE: shredded beef was very flavorful, asked for little beans but seemed like the normal amount, also has rice topped with cheese (this is not a wet burrito). Overall was a very good BUT this is the same as the basic burrito except you get cheese on top of this one (which costs you an extra $8.00!!), if my husband would have known that, he would have just done the basic burrito too! SIZE: average PRICE: $17.99 OVERALL THOUGHTS: Paid $80 for our family of four. Food is very good. Staff were very kind. Didn't appreciate the check paying experience (full explanation under service). WOULD I RETURN? Possibly, but we would not make a special trip.

El Arbol is definitely a cool spot visually, and I really wanted to love it based on all the great…read morereviews. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was much better than the food for us. The restaurant itself is bright, colorful, clean, and really well designed. I loved the clever bench seating, the bar was well stocked, and there's outdoor seating plus an upstairs area that looked really cool. They also have a walk-up taco window outside, which is a fun idea. We sat in the bar area, and the service was amazing. Everyone was friendly and attentive. The food, though, was really underwhelming. Almost everything we tried lacked seasoning and flavor. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, which had very little chicken and were pretty bland. I did like the very thinly sliced jalapeños on top. The rice was nice and fluffy but didn't have much flavor, and they serve black beans, which just aren't my preference with Mexican food. The house-made salsa was surprisingly sweet, and I was disappointed that the chips didn't seem house-made. If I'm going out for Mexican food, fresh chips are one of those little things I really look forward to. My husband ordered tacos at $6 each, which felt pretty steep considering we're used to excellent tacos in the $2-$3 range. His carne asada was cooked closer to medium rare, which wasn't what we expected at all from carne asada. The queso was another disappointment. It tasted very similar to Rico's cheese sauce you can buy at the grocery store. Overall, great service, great decor, very clean and a fun atmosphere, but the food just didn't match the setting or the reviews for us. At these prices, I expected a lot more flavor. Unfortunately, we left pretty disappointed.

Anytime I do a review I try to take in the experience as a whole. Not just focusing on the food, or…read moreif the service was bad. So why did I give The Acapulco Mexican Grill a 3 star? Let me explain. The place is conveniently located downtown Charlotte with plenty of parking. If there's no street side parking out front, there's a big lot out back too. It's a good size restaurant with lots of seating inside, but there's also an outdoor patio if that's your thing. The menu has just about anything you would typically want from a sit down Mexican restaurant, and a sizable drink menu also. The place is relatively clean and the restrooms are usually kept up. I've never had a meal or bad service. Sounds like everything you'd want in a restaurant. But honestly, that's how things are supposed to be. I expect the place to be clean. I expect the staff to be polite. I expect the food be good. These are all standard things. A 3 star review is just that, standard. Anything higher would be above and beyond. I just don't think this place or the food is above and beyond. There's a couple other Mexican restaurants nearby, so I'd figure they'd step their game up a notch. Unfortunately I don't see it. I'll eat here again, because I like it. They are in fact better than the other places. But the other places lessor reviews don't automatically add stars to this one. Do average, get average.
